Donor-Advised Funds

If you have a donor-advised fund (DAF), you can recommend a grant to NVFS quickly and easily. Your fund sponsor will handle the transfer, and you'll maximize your charitable impact with tax-smart giving.

How to give from your DAF:

• Log into your DAF account (Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, etc.)
• Search for "Northern Virginia Family Services" or use our Tax ID: 54-0791977
• Recommend your grant amount

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

If you're 70½ or older, a QCD lets you give directly to NVFS from your IRA, tax-free. Your gift is transferred straight from your IRA to us, which means it won't count as taxable income, even if you don't itemize. It also counts toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year, making it one of the most tax-smart ways to give.

How to make a QCD to NVFS:

• Contact your IRA custodian and request a direct distribution to NVFS
• Ask them to make the check payable to Northern Virginia Family Services (Tax ID: 54-0791977)
• Instruct them to mail the check directly to NVFS — not to you
• Gifts must be received by December 31 to count for that tax year

Matching gifts & workplace giving

Corporate matching programs let employees double, or even triple, the impact of their donation at no extra cost to them. If your company participates, it's one of the easiest ways to make your gift go further for our neighbors.

How to check and submit a matching gift:

• Search below to see if your employer offers a matching gift program
• Follow your company's instructions to submit a matching gift request
• Share your receipt with your HR or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team
