Here's how much USPS rates increased in January 2026.

Alert: On March 25, USPS proposed a special 8% rate increase for Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, Ground Advantage and Parcel Select, effective April 26 if approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission. Those increases are in addition to the rates shown on this page.

USPS rates for Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, Ground Advantage and Parcel Select changed on January 18, 2026.

The charts below show the rates in effect until January 17, 2026 (crossed out) and new rates effective January 18 (highlighted).

Because of surcharges in effect during the holiday season, some of the new rates may actually be lower than the current rates.

Rates for other categories of mail, including regular First Class postage, did not change in January. You can find those rates on the current complete USPS rate chart. The next scheduled rate change for those services will be in July, 2026.

How to calculate volume

To determine whether a parcel is more than 2 cubic feet in volume, meaning that the USPS volume surcharge will apply:

• Measure the length, width and height in inches. If the parcel is not rectangular, measure each dimension where it is the largest. For a tube, use the diameter for both the width and the height.
  
  
• Round off each measurement to the nearest inch. For example, if the measurement is at least 6" but less than 6 1/2", round down to 6". But if it is 6 1/2" up to 7", round up to 7".
  
  
• Multiply the rounded length by the rounded width by the rounded height.
  
  
• If the piece is not rectangular, multiply by 0.785.
  

The volume surcharge applies if the result is more than 3,456.
