*To calculate GPA: Find the average point value. I'm using the American system because I am ethnocentric or something. And that's just way easier. An 'A' (90-100) is worth 4 points. A 'B' (80-89) is worth 3. A 'C' (70-79) is worth 2. A 'D' (60-69) is worth 2. Anything less is 1.
**Weighted GPAs take into account extra points for IB/AP classes (An 'A' is worth 5 and so on). Basically, anything that is worth more in your system gets upped one point.

EXAMPLE:
My un-weighted GPA from last semester: (B + A + A + C + A + B + A)/7 = (3 + 4 + 4 + 2 + 4 + 3 + 4)/7 = 3.42
My weighted GPA from last semester: (B + A + A + C + A + B + A)/7 = (4 + 5 + 5 + 3 + 5 + 4 + 4)/7 = 4.28

If this is just too big of a pain the ass to all you guys not from the US, you have my full permission to run away. That's what I'd do. ;)

The (double plus) un-good part: My Canadian flag pin fell off my bag. I couldn't find it in the car or around the house, so I think it fell off when I was shopping with Mom tonight and will be swept up by the night crew of costco and thrown away. This makes me, perhaps foolishly, sad. Especially since I got it in Vancouver last summer and it was the first pin on my bag. And hey, it was all Canadian. Now the bag looks a little empty and not as anti-American. Sigh. (Anybody know where I can find another one?)

The good part: I pre-ordered Hedley's CD from maplemusic.com. (Look! I legitimately bought music for once!)

This is for the ci2_nostalgia group. I doubt anybody else knows/gives a crap anyway....but yeah.

HOKAY KIDS. So, here's how this is going to work....pick five things from the two lists below. They're not separated in any fancy way, LJ just cut me off at 15 options. So, pick five of them (because I sure as hell can't pick just one) and then we'll take the 10 that are clearly the best and have another lovely poll to rank those. Because I enjoy abusing my paid account perks.

(Also, if there's some fatal flaw with the numbers I chose, which is pretty likely as I'm a history/theatre nerd who pulled them out of her ass, somebody let me know!)

This year I'm participating in AIDS Walk San Francisco. All proceeds go to a long list of AIDS rlief funds and charities in the Bay Area and world-wide.

AIDS is an important issue for me, and I know many of you as well, I've set a goal of $500 and I'd greatly appreciate it if you could make a donation. Or, if you're in the Bay Area, join yourselves!

You can make a donation at My Site or by mailing me a check made out to AWSF or AIDS Walk San Francisco (USD only I believe, but I'd take a money order and cash/donate that for you cause I'm cool that way). Step One

- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

If you can make this sentence make sense, I'll give you cookies. It's from Gabriel Garcia Marquez's Chronicle of a Death Foretold. Of no vital importance...but it's been bugging me since I read it this summer.

"Most of all, he never thought it legitimate that life should make use of so many coincidences forbidden literature, so that there should be the untrammeled fulfillment of a death so clearly fortold."

It's the 'forbidden literature' part. Where the crack did that come from?
