I collaborated with Martyna Alexander to design a catalog for the sale of original drawings by architect Paolo Soleri, creator of Arcosanti. The publication highlights the environmental and cultural significance of Soleri’s work while providing a clear, engaging layout for collectors and institutions. I worked closely with content and images to structure the catalog for readability, visual hierarchy, and aesthetic cohesion.

I founded and manage Creative Coding Detroit, a local meetup for artists and technologists exploring code-based creative work. 
As part of this, I developed a flexible visual system for event announcements and social media posts, using code-driven animations each month to maintain a dynamic and recognizable identity. While the system currently standardizes communication, it is designed to grow with the community and could eventually incorporate participant-generated graphics. This project demonstrates my ability to design and maintain a cohesive identity while shaping the tone and structure of a creative community.

“Sam was a dream to collaborate with on what was a technically complex project: to design and develop super light weight website to be hosted on a custom solar server. She developed the most considered and gorgeous design, navigating the various bespoke constraints of our server. Hire her!”Tega Brain, Project Lead
	

Solar Protocol is a distributed website hosted on solar-powered servers around the world. I was commissioned to design and build the Exhibition section of the site.


The work had to operate within strict constraints: the exhibition needed to be lightweight, built using only HTML and CSS, avoid external libraries or hosted assets, and translate cleanly across Solar Protocol’s network of servers.


I designed and developed the exhibition system, including the layout, navigation, typography, image treatment, and front-end implementation. The page uses a modular two-column layout paired with a radial SVG-based navigation system that highlights participating artists. Typography is system font and ASCII-based, allowing for expressive detail without relying on external files. Images were dithered and optimized to reduce file size and energy load.


The exhibition has been live for three years and continues to run as part of Solar Protocol’s future-forward, globally-distributed infrastructure.

Working with Tailscale’s internal team, I designed digital graphics and technical diagrams for marketing and promotional materials. This included applying Tailscale’s brand system across multiple formats and creating code-based graphics to visualize technical concepts.


Using code for select projects allowed me to explore motion and interactivity through dynamic elements that easily adjusted in cross-platform environments. The resulting materials communicated complex information, supported marketing goals and reinforced brand cohesion across digital channels.

I designed a series of digital announcements for the School for Poetic Computation’s summer semester, creating a flexible visual system to accommodate multiple courses, instructors, and timelines. The work prioritized clarity, hierarchy, and legibility, ensuring that course information could be consistently presented across email, social media, and the SFPC website.

Additionally, I designed a distinct visual for the semester’s special in-person course, Experiments in Networked Performance.&#38;nbsp;This project showcases my ability to design both repeatable, semester-wide systems and tailored, course-specific graphics, balancing consistency with the needs of individual programs.

Reading Into the Past / Writing Into the Future Volume 1: Seeds for a New Pattern is a book published by the School for Poetic Computation. It contains writings from participants in the course of the same name, hosted by the school in early spring, 2022.&#38;nbsp;Participants read, discussed and responded to works of science fiction by Black and Indigenous People of Color and responded in their own words.&#38;nbsp;

Main themes were portals, slime mold and moss.&#38;nbsp;

Detroit PEER (Partnership for Education Equity and Research) is a university-based center connecting educators, researchers, and community stakeholders to improve student outcomes in Detroit. I was commissioned to develop a cohesive visual identity and support their public-facing communications through report templates and a customized web platform.


I designed the visual identity, developed report and presentation templates, and built a taxonomy-driven website in WordPress to make the department’s research and resources accessible to stakeholders, other researchers and the public.

My strategy was to approach the project as a design system challenge. The visual identity needed to communicate complex educational data clearly across technical reports with variable content, presentations, and the web. The color system was extended for use on the custom website, extending into a complete taxonomy of topics and resource types for ease of research. To ensure longevity, the site was structured for usability and clarity on the front and back ends, prioritizing both the user and the administrator. 


The identity and website created a consistent, professional, and accessible platform for Detroit PEER. Reports and resources can now be published efficiently, and public users can navigate new initiatives, research data and departmental content with ease.

Room Project invited me to design a poster for Code Poetry, a workshop hosted by the School for Poetic Computation. The event brought together writers and technologists, and the poster needed to communicate both the conceptual nature of the workshop and the practical event details.


I designed a small poster system that explores structure and hierarchy through both visual form and text. Using the workshop copy as source material, I collaborated with Room Project to shape the language into a poetic structure, which then informed the final layout. Two complementary posters were produced for print and social media distribution.
