About the member

Blanca Rice Cabrera is an Argentinean-Irish artist and art teacher, based in Cork City. She is known under the pseudonym of Libertad which means Liberty. She grew up in a family with a strong history in the defence and promotion of human rights.

Her visual production is inspired by social causes and human rights movements with a gender perspective.

She has a career working as a mural painter, where she explores culture, crafts and design patterns from ancestral peoples and the biodiversity of places she  visited around the world.

Inspired by the life stories of the communities I travel around, I create through visual arts and mural painting a storytelling that shows the local identity. Combining the biodiversity and the ancestral culture, the aesthetic of my work shows the influence of Latin American arts and incorporating the Irish cultural heritage and the variety of Artist expressions.

Combining a colourful palette and expressive portraits, I explore through ceramics, painting, printmaking and mural painting different ways to create a visual storytelling of themes related to human rights and social causes, including some mythology from indigenous communities.
