After nearly two months of living in close quarters with Ruby, Sam finally works up the nerve to ask her the question that’s been on his mind for a while now.
“Do you every worry that you’ll become…”
He trails off. Ruby is absent-mindedly sharpening her knife, not really paying attention to him. “Become what?” she asks distractedly.
“Like other demons,” he finishes.
She stops, puts down the knife, turns to look him square in the face, and answers his question with one of her own.
“Do you ever worry that you’ll become like other humans?”
He doesn’t ask again.
