Well, first week of our second semester is over. I'm still trying to remember our timetable and which classroom or lecture theatre we are supposed to be at. *needs some time to "fit myself in"* Advanced Biochemistry is proving to be a challenge (already), since I never took the first year module for Biochemistry, which is the case for direct entry second year students. I think I'll try to stay back at night in school so I can read up more. The tutorial is also difficult to tackle since some of the terminology is unfamiliar to me. Or maybe I've just forgotten them. XD

I haven't done spring cleaning for my room this year! There isn't much time for me to do that, and I don't see the point in trying to clean my old wooden table and shelves anyway. It's difficult to clean, and I can't get at the dust in the little gaps since our vacuum cleaner is out of commission, so it wouldn't be thorough. The stains are also going to stay where they are, seeing as they've done so for the past decade. -_- I do however, have a lot of things I want gotten rid of. I still have last year's pile. Mum said she'd do something about it, but that was a year ago too, heh.

Can't remember what time I (accidentally!) fell asleep (probably 9 or 10 p.m.) but I woke up at 3 a.m. only to remember that I still had to finish that research proposal due this afternoon.

Set my handphone alarm to wake myself at 4 but I never did get back to sleep, so I just lay around daydreaming. LOL.

And now that I'm done, there is no point going back to sleep since I have to be out of the house by 6.30 anyway.

Okay. I have two announcements.

One, I've finished my iconfiend100 claim. :D All the icons are right here.

Two, this journal is going on a semi-hiatus. As much as I love LJ and my f-list, I'm really short of time here (or maybe you could argue that I just need better time management XD). This is my second last semester, and my exams are coming up next month. I really have to work even harder because my grades for the common test sucked and will affect my final results. On top of that, I have two reports to write, and my final year project presentation is just next semester. It might seem like I have a lot of time, but at the same time, it's a lot of work. I think it best to start now than have everything snowballing and knocking me off a cliff (so to speak) later on.

So I won't be posting much. I'll try to read my Friends page when I can, but I'll be pretty much invisible around here for some time.

Warning: Unbeta-ed.
Summary: Set in their Academy days. The two of them didn't want to see their friend sad, so they decided to help her out. One-shot.
A/N: Not my best story. But the idea kept playing about in my head, so I wrote it down. Yes, and I know the title is lousy. Let me know if there was any humour at all. I fear cracking jokes that nobody gets. XD

“Come on,” Shinn wheedled. “You don’t want to disappoint her, do you?” He waved the skirt he was holding in his friend’s face.

“I said no,” Rey said firmly. His expression was as blank as always, but there was a look in his eyes that told Shinn he’d be sorry if he asked again.

“Fine then,” Shinn shrugged in mock defeat. “We can tell her tomorrow that we couldn’t find it, because you wouldn’t help---”

“You could do it yourself. I don’t see why---”

“Yes, of course,” Shinn replied sagely. “Anyone can wear a skirt. That doesn’t mean they can always carry it off. The thing could be in the girls’ locker room. While I’d look like a guy, skirt or no…For you it’d be a different matter.” Here he grinned impishly.

Rey glared at him for a moment, then snatched the garment from the black-haired boy’s hand.

The two of them had come across Lunamaria in the field, looking rather distraught. They’d never seen her look so miserable, so they’d gone and asked what the matter was.

“Oh guys, have either of you seen my necklace?” she asked in a tone of despair.

Both boys shook their heads. Disappointment washed over her face, and ignoring them, she went on searching.

“This, uh, thing you’re looking for, it’s important, isn’t it?” Shinn asked tentatively.

“My dad gave it to me, just before he left for Junius Seven,” she said flatly. The meaning of her words was unmistakable.

It prompted Shinn to think back on the death of his parents and sister at Onogoro, and the pink cell phone, which was the only thing he had left to remember them by. If he’d ever lost it…

A wave of sympathy and determination rose in him. “We’ll help you look for it,” he said quietly.

So they searched everywhere Lunamaria had gone to the day before: the lecture halls, the refectory, the corridors, but they still couldn’t find their quarry.

“Now I know,” Shinn said wearily, collapsing on a bench. “what they meant by ‘a needle in a haystack’,”

Rey didn’t say anything, but this looking around was getting to him. All he asked was, “Where’re the places we might have overlooked?”

“None that I can think of,” he said off-handedly. Then he suddenly sat upright. “No, wait a minute, there’s still one more place,”

“And where’s that?”

“Well, the girls’ locker room…”

His companion gave him a look. “Do you know what it’d look like if we went in there?”

“Yeah, but I said we’d look for it…” Shinn said uncomfortably. The next moment though, he had a gleam in his eyes. Most of the time, it didn’t spell anything good.

“…So?” Rey asked suspiciously.

Shinn went off to borrow a skirt from Meyrin. She looked puzzled, but agreed to his request anyway. And then, he told Rey he’d have to wear it and sneak inside to look.

“Shinn, you owe me big time for this,” he muttered darkly. It was already pretty late and most people had retreated to their dormitories. But there was still the risk that he could be caught. No mistake what the consequences would be, but he made a mental note to take Shinn with him if something like that happened.

“Purple pendant, purple pendant…” he repeated in his head. Then something caught his eye. There was an object glittering under the fluorescent light, right beneath a bench.

An amethyst pendant, hung on a fine silver chain, lay on the floor.

The next day, Shinn went off to find Lunamaria, the necklace clutched triumphantly in his fist. Much to his surprise, he found her chatting brightly to Meyrin, with no hint of yesterday’s sadness on her face.

Lunamaria turned to him as he approached, still smiling.

“Luna, we went looking for the necklace yesterday, and---” He was cut off by her.

“Thanks so much, Shinn, but I’ve already found it,” she said sheepishly. “Turns out it was under a pile of notes on my desk. It was nice of the two of you to look, though. Thanks again!”

He did his best to keep a straight face until he was out of her sight. Once he reached a corner alone though, he stared at the trinket in his hand with growing bewilderment. “Then whose is this…?!”

“Hmm, I was sure I left it on my clothes, right on this bench…” Abbey pondered. “Where’d it go?”

Shoe malfunction.

Oh yes. Of all days it happened, it just HAD to happen today.

Crocodile mouth, that's what my dad called it.

Yep. The above illustration pretty much summed up what happened to the friggin' bottom of my shoe. Even before the presentation started. The whole thing started to droop off, and only remained there because the heel was still holding it in place.

I was having a really hard time walking, and was at a loss as to how I'd get home at all. For those who do not know, my home isn't exactly walking distance from our school. I take about an hour to travel back and forth.

Thank the Lord I met my cousin (Her school is near mine, and so is her house), and she offered to take me to her home first, and my parents could pick me up later.

Apart from that, itty-bitty pieces of the shoe started to peel off, and you could see cracks everywhere.

I knew shoes shouldn't be kept in a corner for a long time without being worn. Funny thing, that. I just...never knew it could give me such a problem. :O

My schoolmates couldn't stop laughing everytime they saw the sole like that. And my mum too, when she thought of it. XDDD

Is it really that funny?

Lucky we had Powerpoint slides for our presentations, which means some lights were turned off, which means that my shoes weren't so noticeable. At least it gave me that impression.

Well, my presentation wasn't so bad. I remembered what I was supposed to say, but then I didn't have as much info to remember as did my group members. Though the lecturer noted that it was shorter than the minumum time of three minutes. Oh well.

Oh yes, I found a Rey wallpaper on MT I hadn't seen before. Took me some time to find it.

Everyone was spazzing about how difficult the paper was. I heard comments like "Couldn't finish" and stuff. That applied to me. I didn't finish the paper by a margin of one sentence. Augh! XO There certainly was no leaving early for this paper. I did see some leave before the time was up, and I have but two conclusions: They studied very hard and managed to clear it. That or they gave up on it halfway. XD

I already got into difficulties at the first structured question because I couldn't make up my mind about the functional group. Whether it was an amine or amide. -_- I hate that feeling. It's like no matter what I do, I'm gonna get it wrong.

I have saved up about $26. Yay. :D It's good to have a lot of money when one is going to Orchard Road. Okay, okay, so $26 is not that much XD

...I wonder which CD I'll get if I can find it...

evenstar1389, I still don't get how one could blow a hundred bucks in one day. =_=

I've just come back from my Cell Biology test. I really shouldn't have skipped lunch. Well, it wasn't my fault that I didn't feel like eating. -_-;;; Yeah, well, you know what exam halls are like. It's so quiet.

So my stomach went on protest at not having lunch just as I was doing my paper. It began growling. Audibly. >.< It was so embarrassing, I tell you. I hope no one actually wondered where the sound was coming from. But of course they will. :P I had to keep pressing down on my belly to deaden the noise. Not that it was a permanent solution.

Tomorrow's the last test! Organic Chemistry. I still feel a bit woozy about amines and amides, but I'll do my best. :D

And I'm still waiting for my GSD calendar. Gah.

I've watched Code Geass up till episode 6. Actually I skipped episode 5, but that was because no. 6 downloaded a lot quicker than no. 5. XD I've been wondering...how did Lelouch know how to use the Geass so quickly? I certainly didn't see any explanation given to him. :S I suppose it was okay anyway. If he'd needed C.C. to tell him how to use it, he'd have been a goner. Since she was apparently dead then. I guess it must be one of those "I just know how the thing works" cases. :P Or maybe C.C. explained and they just didn't show it.

...I'm wondering how much I've saved so far. I want to pop by HMV and see if they have any Gundam SEED Destiny Suit CDs. Or OSTs.

I've watched the OP for Rozen Maiden ouvertüre. I didn't expect a slower song. I thought it might have been like Seishoujo Ryouiki. But it's grown on me. XD The part where Suigintou was hacking off the roses was cool. In fact, I liked all of the OP sequences.

Now, I'd like to make an icon of this:

I just wish I could find the Baragoku Otome CD here. I doubt music stores like Sembawang or Music Junction would stock them. :S

Oh yes. I've begun watching Code Geass.

And I'll be ~~dangerous to be around~~ cranky for the next few days until my COMMON TESTS ARE OVER. I hate Networking. I don't get it; some of the quiz questions ask for stuff I haven't heard of at all in class. I' m sure I paid attention, but occasionally the lecturer went too fast, and I couldn't take everything down. Yay, score one for me for slowness. I should've asked him to repeat, but I didn't. Never mind, I have a revision class tomorrow. Heh.

Man, all I need is another C to pull down my GPA, of which I'm not even sure I can get at least a 3.5 ):

I did my 2-minute talk today. To my surprise, I found that my group mates were all for doing their talk early o.O It is better to get it over and done with, but everytime I wanted to go take a topic, someone else beat me to it XD And besides, I was so scared that I doubt I had enough strength in my legs to stand up anyway.

I grabbed a topic...and I got this: "It is pointless to spend money on the terminally ill. We should just let them die!"

Ah well. Interesting.

I think it depends on what the money is being spent on. If it's something like what the Make-A-Wish foundation do e.g. take ill children on a holiday, then I think it's perfectly alright. But um, when we're talking about someone who is already on life support, stuck in a coma for months and months without any guarantee of ever waking up, then I think the plug should be pulled.

I do sound cruel, don't I? I suppose some people would take it that way. It's even more cruel to prolong someone's pain. As opposed to pulling the plug.

That's what the Advanced Medical Directive (AMD) is for. If you ever end up in a vegetative state, it's like allowing the doctors to take life support away and let you die. Peacefully. Better than living a long, but painful life.

Quality of life wins over length of life. To me anyway. The AMD also helps avoiding conflict between family members who want life support to be taken away and the ones who don't want that to happen. Plus the big hospital bill they're gonna get.

At any rate, the talk's over, so I'm rejoicing :D Any presentations coming up next will be in groups. After the individual one, I think I can handle a group one XD

I recently stumbled onto an Anti-Shur'tugal site. Well, it as good as means "Anti-Eragon and Eldest site". Rather enlightening experience.

I won't say now that the books sucked. I liked it at some parts. But I think the thing that raised the ire of so many is that the books are overrated. Like freakingly so.

Plus the big similarity that the Inheritance books have with other stories. The whole farm boy-turns-hero-that-saves-world (Sounds familiar?) and the similarity of names between the books and Tolkien's. Hell, the name of a location in Eragon's world is the SAME as the name of someone in "The Silmarillion". (If you want to know, the name is "Melian". The mother of Lúthien Tinúviel in "The Silmarillion". Look around on Alagäesia's map and you'll find it.)

And it doesn't just stop at there. Look at the Beor Mountains (Beorn), Ardwen (Arwen), Eldor (Eldar) and Isenstar (Isengard). There're others. Can someone explain to me why? It's not just one name, it's like Paolini took some names from Tolkien and just switched some letters :S

I don't hate the books, but I've lost my respect for them. *shrugs*

Oh whee, look at the time :P

I went to VivoCity yesterday. Two weeks into its opening and it's still so freakin' crowded.

Have I ever mentioned that I have trouble reining in my temper whenever I'm in a crowded place? XD

Yeah, the place pretty much got on my nerves. You have to walk quite a while to get to wherever the bathroom is -_- And you can't just stand at one point even for a second or you'll get into the way of one person or another. You have to keep trying to squeeze in between spaces too. This is what I detest about crowds.

We didn't get our PS2. Because Best Denki apparently doesn't have any in stock. And you don't see any PS2 games at VivoCity's Best Denki...which is kinda weird since they have the console. The assistants kinda gave us conflicting answers to our questions. We asked if they had the console, and one said there wasn't any in stock, while another said that the stock wouldn't be coming at all.

There's a big difference between the stock not there, but is going to be delivered and the stock not going to be there at all, you know.

So we thought of getting an MP3 player, but then my dad's voucher wasn't enough for both of us though. I wouldn't have minded if he only bought one for my brother. After all, an MP3 player doesn't top my wishlist. Now give me a Toys 'R' Us voucher and I'd make it work XD With lots of Gundam model kits.

I don't get why the minimum space for the iPods they have is 2GB, which is really expensive, and frankly, I don't think anyone actually needs that much space. We didn't get one because my mum didn't seem too happy about it anyway.

At any rate, I didn't think it was anymore different from the usual mall. So I don't see the big deal about it, aside from the fact that it's just larger than usual *shrugs*

I am thinking of a journal title right now...But can't think of any at the moment XDDD

I'll be having my Cell Biology quiz in...ah, an hour or so. And I am freaked out.

I don't have extra notes, and what I've studied feels pretty vague, like only bits of disjointed information are floating around.

I have to get myself organised like fearmirichan does *nods*

I'm going to attend the class reunion of sorts later at night, of which I only have a vague idea of the location becuase I've never been there before, and that place is rather...deserted. I have absolutely no idea how I am going to get home without the help of my friends, since my dad doesn't know where it is.

I can't stay there for long because I still have lessons the next day, and an interview to do in the morning/afternoon. After my lessons I'm going out with my orientation group to...somewhere, maybe VivoCity.

Then I have to do the Reflections for Trends in Life Sciences (Or I'll be asking for a low grade), and think of two questions to post online for Organic Chemistry as well as answer two other questions other people posted.

Pardon me if this post seems rather hysterical. I'm typing rather fast.

We're going to have our presentation on Wednesday. Most of us have finished our research, except for one guy, who hasn't finished. His excuses were: "You didn't tell me what to do", "I wasn't listening" etc. etc. And the most incredulous reason was that we told him what to do when he wasn't listening, as though it was our fault he didn't listen.

Sorry, Your Majesty, but we didn't know you weren't listening.

Seriously, I didn't find it funny like he did.

So now, we have extra work to do on radiotherapy, just in case he doesn't manage to finish in time. Actually I think he will, but let's not take any chances >_< We have to compile the stuff soon.

We had our summary test today. I felt pretty stupid 'cause the others had their information sources, but I just made up my points in my head -_- I didn't quote a source for my summary, so the lecturer asked me to find one. Which I did. I still remember that IMH pamphlet about stress I got in my secondary school XD

We've been invited to a buffet and a lunch on Sunday. Great, time to stuff myself XDDD Actually I don't think I'll eat much...Stress is getting to me. I should be spending that Sunday revising for my MS Excel test -_-

On the way home, I paid a visit to the Bedok Community Library. Woo hoo, the library doubled the loan limit because of the holidays, so now I can borrow eight books! Here's a list of the books I borrowed:

"Mister Monday" by Garth Nix (Yay. I now have only to find "Grim Tuesday")
"Wedding Vows and Traditions" by Cathy Howes (A pretty white book. Oh, it's not like I'm gonna get married soon, but wedding books like these are nice to read :D)
"Kaze no Banri, Reimei no Sora" Book 1 and 2 by Ono Fuyumi (The Chinese version. Suddenly got a desire for re-reading this particular story again.)
"Anna of Byzantium" by Tracy Barrett (Read this before, but I like it a lot. Don't ask me why XDDD)

I made a tea house in "The Sims", and named it "Shinku's Tea House" XD The walls are all in red. On the outside, at least. I might screenshot it. Though I'll need to add more street lamps. It's too dark. Don't Sims fear muggers??? XD Speaking of Rozen Maiden, it's a pity there's no Rozen Maiden Sims skins. I'd love to see Shinku and Souseiseki as well as Suigintou in "The Sims" :P
