I am working on some of my fic challenges and some stock pic icons (inspired by pullyourtangles) but I want to do something for watchers of safe_side. If you comment to this post I will make you a present. Yes. You. Why? Because I want to make stuff but I want to branch out. Here's how it will work. you can have a header and two matching icons, a wallpaper or 5 icons made just for you. Also if you would like a ficlet or a drabble written by me leave a character pairing and prompt ( preferably from Narnia or HP- RPF is fine. If it is in my user info the fandom can be discussed but I can say no.).

You can request 2 things. Be it 2 drabbles, 2 WP, 1header and matching icons plus 5 more icons whatever.

Headers and WP pictures must be High Quality. ( however for a header if you have some MQ pictures or screencaps it can be negotionable depending on if i think I can work with them) Icons make sure the quality is at least decent. for headers and WP tell me any colors you have in mind, Icons use mine as examples. I can remember how to do most of what I have done. or just leave it up to me. Please for all 3 tell me any text you want.

so comment with some pictures for headers and wallpaper or 5 pictures for icons and thier text.

I can't wait to make this stuff. I will close requests on Tuesday night. and Wed post the graphics. Thursday will be the day I post the drabbles.

Tutorial 01: BW with a splash of color for Photoshop CS2

Here is the tutorial requested by unspell for a group of icons in my last set of Kelly Clarkson icons. I didn't save the psd but the steps are the same. Please play around with settings and opacities. I am not going to show a screenshot to show where all the commads are thatI used. I assume you understand your program. I will provide the icon after each step. Try and make it look like it. This is just a guide.

Go from this to

01. Crop your picture into you base.

02. Use the unsharp mask to sharpen the picture. Play around with settings for you picture. (Settings: Amount 59% Radius: 0.7 Threshold: 0)

03. Desaturate your base (Ctrl+Shift+U)

04. Use auto contrast. (Image>Adjustments>Auto Contrast)

05. Duplicate you base twice. Set the first duplicate on screen and the second on soft light.( Base screen softlight is the order) Play with the opacity of the screen layer if it is too bright. If it is dark add another and place with its opacity. In this case I used two screen layers. The second one had an opacity of 30.

06. Add a Gaussian Blur of 1 pixel to the soft light layer. It makes the icon look softer i think.

07. Using the rounded rectangle shape in a bright color ( I used #a800cc) Place a rounded rectange (hold shift for a perfect square) where you would like and set it to screen.

08. I thought the edges of the shape were rough so I Gaussian Blured the shape layer on 1 pixel. ( A window will pop up asking rasterize the shape. Click yes.)

09. Add text if you would like. For this icon I added "GRANGER" in Print Dashed at 24pt all caps in black on crisp and rotated it slightly.

Summary: Lucy wonders about Aslan and where he goes when he’s not in Narnia.

Queen Lucy the Valiant sighed as she watched Aslan leave her and her siblings alone shortly after he had crowned them the rulers of Narnia. Clutching her handkerchief in her hands she smiled. He would be back. She had the faith to know that much. Mr. Tumnus knew just about everything about Narnia and if He said that Aslan wasn’t a tame lion than that had to be case.

Of course Lucy was a child and an extremely curious one at that. She knew he’d be back but where was he going? The young queen needed some answers but no one had any for her. Mr. Beaver had told her it was Aslan’s business. Orieus told her defeating Jadis’ army was more important than her silly questions and Peter agreed with him! Susan laughed and shook her head at her sister’s curious nature. Edmund told her they would find out when Aslan wanted them to. Mr. Tumnus didn’t know. She was sure if he did know he would have told her but she still asked him. This seemed to be the one thing all of Narnia did not know about their Great Lion. Lucy dropped the subject and just helped her siblings rule Narnia in Aslan’s place because that would have been what he wanted,

When she was back in Narnia for the second time Lucy thought that since she was the one who could seem him when no one else could, now might be a good time to ask. She started to learn that for once Ed was right. Every time she decided to ask Aslan where he went when he was away from Narnia something in Lucy’s heart made her not ask the question. It was a queer thing. Lucy accepted that Ed was right. Later when she was told that she could never return she decided that Aslan must go be who she needed to find in England or something.

Lucy got her answer the day she died. Once she was in the new Narnia and saw how many people and place Aslan took care of it was obvious that he had to go help them. As she passed him on her way to go to tea with Mr. Tumnus Aslan confirmed that.

“My Dear One, do you see now? This is where I go when I’m gone.”

Summary/Note: Susan thinks about her siblings and their crowns, and her self shortly after the coronation at Cair Paravel. This was written solitaire3

Sitting on a bench in the gardens at Cair Paravel Queen Susan was grateful for the moment of alone time she had. Peter and Edmund were off training with Orieus and Lucy was having tea with Mr. Tumnus. All of her duties were done for the day and she finally had some time to herself. Fingering the golden crown on her head she finally allowed her self to think about the thoughts that plagued her since she became a queen.

The names that Aslan had given each of her siblings seemed to fit a lot better than hers. The crowns on the other hand fit the boys more than perfectly but she was uncertain about hers and Lucy’s colors. She had always associated certain feelings and objects with silver and gold and it surprised her how right on the boys were whereas, she didn’t understand how she had ended up with gold and Lucy had gotten the silver. Logically she supposed that it made sense. The two oldest got the Gold Crowns because it was the more precious metal and the youngest got the silver ones. The one thing that she was certain to have learned in Narnia is that logic is not important.

Instead Susan dwelled on how much their titles and crowns fit her brothers. Peter the Magnificent was just the word to describe him. He was without a question noble, brilliant, grand, and in control. He always put others before himself like a good king. The golden crown that sat upon his head just added to the regal aura that surrounded him. He was everything a king should be. Edmund on the other hand seemed sort of distant and cold but not in a bad way. Since being tricked by the White Witch Edmund had learned to look at all sides of the situation before deciding the best course of action. This earned him the title of the Just. Edmund the Just fit his silver crown because of how he was able to sit on the outside of what was going on and use his morals to make everyone happy. The calmness he exuded was something Susan had always associated with silver.

Lucy was Valiant. She was always unafraid and did what she had to make things better. Sometimes Susan was certain that Lucy was braver than Peter. Her silver crown did not seem right though. Lucy was bubbly, vibrant and full of life. She often reminded Susan of the summer and the golden hues of the sun. Lucy was also full of charisma and these were qualities that Susan made Susan believe that Lucy was better suited for the gold crown. Susan was quieter, distant, and more reserved than her sister, more like silver she had thought.

Susan didn’t think she was gentle. She was harsh and mean to Peter since coming to Narnia. She found herself losing her patience at random moments. Then Susan realized that she did possess another form of gentleness. It was physical but it was something. Unlike Lucy or her brothers she would walk around the grounds and it seemed like she was floated. She didn’t flutter, or bound around like Lu; she didn’t trip or bump into things like Ed, or walk around heavily like Peter. Thinking about that physical difference made her realize her features were graceful. That’s how she would describe herself.

She decided to start thinking about how her crown fit her. She was wise. She would read and learn as much as she could. Lucy was still young. That was one reason she was better fit for the Gold crown. Susan also supposed that foreign rulers expected a queen to be more like her than Lucy anyway. As for her being harsh and losing patience that didn’t happen back wherever she was from before. She was certain of that. She could change that. Aslan never made mistakes. If she was going to feel like she fit in she had to start acting like it.

Getting up from her bench she headed inside for supper with a smile on her face. Everything was fine. She had the right crown and she was gentle in more ways than one. Queen Susan the Gentle rid herself of these thoughts and started to change right at that moment. In the distance a lion roared.

A New Era for safe_side

This is going to be my last non-graphic/fanfic post of today. I promise. There have been some changes to safe_side.

First off my good freind christpherr has joined me at this community. He has already made 2 icons posts which can be found here (featuring emo ipod, kelly clarkson, pete wentz, and panic! at the disco icons) andhere( a set of 30 veronica mars icons which may contain spoliers if you have yet to see the finale). I hope bringing christpherr on board will bring a greater variety of subjects to the community for graphics. ( Now getting him to write fanfic is a whole other issue. *grins*)

Secondly, We have a new layout and user info. Please check them out and tell me what you think.

Summary: Peter has a cold. Lucy is in charge of taking care of the stubborn High King.

Peter the Magnificent was confined to his chambers for the second day in a row. After a battle where he had defeated some of Jadis the White Witch’s surviving army near a lake, he had fallen aforementioned lake. The result of this was that High King Peter had a dreadful cold. Peter hated being sick. He loathed it. He wanted to be out defeating or planning how to defeat the remnants of the evil army. The last thing he wanted was to be stuck in bed resting. How could he serve his country from here? He wished he hadn’t decreed that his youngest sister’s healing cordial could only be used in dire situations. If he hadn’t had decided to conserve it he could be out and about as he liked at the moment. Peter was a grumpy king at the moment and after how he had treated his brother Edmund yesterday when he tried to take care of him, Peter doubted anyone would dare visit today.

“Lucy if you wish- sneak a drop of your cordial in some tea and just cure him. What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him!” King Edmund the Just shouted after his younger sister as she left while ignoring the glare from his eldest sister Susan.

Lucy shook her head no and laughed. It wouldn’t work. She knew that. Every day the ruling siblings would meet and discuss who would deal with what for the day. With Peter sick Susan made all the decisions, and Lucy knew this bothered Edmund. who was stuck doing what the Lucy usually did. She would deal with any problems of citizens of Narnia. Peter would deal with the Witch’s army while Ed would make treaties and deal with the Foreigners who came to talk to the rules. Susan would help out where ever she was needed. Today Orieus, a trusted general of Peter’s, was dealing with the army. Susan had a suitor visiting and Edmund had to meet with some beavers to discuss the placement of a new Damn and with some Dryads to discuss a festival they wished to have in a month. Lucy at the start of the meeting volunteered to keep an eye on Peter. Susan had said she could but if Peter got unbearable Lucy was to take over meeting with the Dryads and visit with the suitor and his entourage.

Lucy stopped by the kitchens and offered to take Peter’s breakfast tray up. She knew that word was spreading that Peter was in a bad mood and this made people not want to deal with the upset king. If she was able to help the people in the castle while taking care of her brother she would. Lucy also visited the healers and took the medicine Peter would need for the day. She was great friends with them and knew they would trust her with making Peter better. Lucy spent a lot of her free time with them learning their ways because she found it fascinating and knew it would come in handy the way Edmund and Peter would rush off into battles. Stopping by her room to grab the bag she had prepared the night before with some things for her to do if Peter were to fall asleep, some books she thought he would like to read or have her read to him, and a couple of Narnia games Lucy headed to Peter’s chambers.

Lucy peeked in to see if he was asleep and then knocked on the door frame. “I brought you your breakfast, Peter. Can I come in?”

“I still don’t see why I couldn’t have joined the rest of you for breakfast. I need to be out helping Narnia not stuck in here. I’m fine.” Peter glared at her, trying to make her leave. He couldn’t shout at her like he could Ed or Su because he hated seeing her scared or sad. He did know he could get away with a glare or two.

Lucy looked at her brother, who was awfully pale, trying to figure out how she could deal with this. Then she thought she may have figured out what the problem was.

“Peter,” Lucy said looking him right in the eye. “I don’t think there is any reason to be upset or ashamed that the only injury that you got during this battle was a cold. You did exactly what you set out to do and drove those dwarfs away. You protected Narnia and you are right they do need their High King.” Peter looked like he wanted to interrupt raising her voice slightly she kept her gaze on him. “However they need you to be healthy so,” Lucy said softening the tone of her of her voice “will you please allow me to come in, spend the day with you and help you get better? I’ve been studying healing with the healers and I’m pretty good at healing without the cordial if I do say so myself.

Peter smiled. Not because she was right and was able to read him- Lucy was just talented when it came to reading people. He smiled because she looked so eager and childlike just to try out something she learned. It was a side of her he hadn’t seen since Aslan left a few months ago after the coronation. Then again he hadn’t been able to spend a lot of time with just Lucy since that night. As her expression turned to the dreaded puppy face his heart melted. She knew that if she gave him that face he would give in.

“I guess so. But if I tell you to go get the healers because you’re not doing a good enough job you better oblige.” Peter said this with a teasing tone. He knew he wouldn’t be calling the healers in.

“Okay” Lucy grinned and rushed into the room with his tray. Handing it to him she leaned down and kissed his temple. “Oh my you’re burning up.” Lucy was then off in a fury, placing a cold, wet, cloth on his head, and mixing up some medicines as he ate.

Peter watched her amused as she carefully measured and mixed looking at a recipe the healers had given her. Once Peter finished his meal Lucy gave him the medicine. He could already feel his fever start to go down.

“Would you like to play a game or read or something? We don’t have to if you’d like to rest. I know how boring it can be stuck in bed so I brought some things.” Lucy said grabbing the bag she had packed the night before.

Peter chuckled as he realized she had really thought of everything. “Lu, why didn’t you start this yesterday? Edmund wasn’t this prepared. He even refused to get the healers.”

“I had to go see Mr. Tumnus. Susan wanted to know if Fireflower juice would work if it was slipped in tea or something. He has a book on it. It only works if it is taken alone. See, we had thought that it would just be better to break the rules and make you better without you knowing. But it wouldn’t work. Edmund’s job yesterday was to keep the healers away until I figured out the answer. But since it wouldn’t work Susan decided that we had to heal the cold without it. I knew the healers and the staff wouldn’t want to deal with a grumpy High King so I offered to take care of you because I know how to handle a grumpy older brother if his name is Peter.” Lucy confessed.

“Am I really that bad? And no need to answer that by the way.” Peter grinned at her and pulled her up on his bed next to him. “Why don’t you read me a story for your punishment? I can deal with Ed and Su when I am better.”

Lucy picked out a story and started to read. Peter settled back on his pillows as his youngest sister started with another one of her many talents- storytelling. Peter knew he would be better soon with Lucy’s care and decided to enjoy the time he had with her.

My life is brilliant.

I thought that I had everything. I had three best friends; two were like brothers and the other was a girl of whom I could talk about any problem I didn’t want boys involved in. I had two parents who loved each other, had good jobs, and although they really didn’t understand the whole witch thing they supported it. I was the top third soon to be fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I thought nothing could become better. But I was wrong. You dropped into my life.

My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,

My one consolation about being stuck at the Quidditch World Cup with Harry and the Weasley family was that I would be witnessing a piece of history. But then I met you. You were just so kind. You were right there after the Portkey spit me out on the ground. You helped me up offered me a smile and walked with me asking me questions about my life. You weren’t even doing it in the annoying Mr. Weasley Muggles are so fascinating way a lot of pureblooded wizards would. You were genuinely interested in me. It was an odd feeling. You were so much older than me. You had a girlfriend. From what I had witnessed at Hogwarts you should have been talking Quidditch with the boys not listening to me talk about my parents’ dental practice. As I unpacked in the tent with Ginny I realized I was experiencing my first crush. I felt the need to do something but I wasn’t sure what.

You were Cedric Diggory the resident pretty boy of the school. You were with Cho Chang who was one of the prettiest girls at school. I was so confused. There was no way that you could fall for me. I was just the bookworm who helped Harry Potter save the wizarding world every year. Then there was the fact that you were a couple of years older than I was. It just wouldn’t work out. I knew that deep down in my heart we would never be together and that the answer to this problem would not be found in a book.

And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.

I’ll never forget the Yule Ball. I’ll never forget how handsome you looked. It made me so giddy. But that wasn’t why. And it wasn’t because Viktor was the most charming company. It wasn’t even because of that fight that Ron Weasley and I had. It was because after you had walked Cho back to her tower you passed me sobbing on the steps and for the first time since the World Cup you acknowledged my existence. You wiped away my tears with a handkerchief, told me everything would be fine and then walked me back to Gryffindor Tower so I wouldn’t get in trouble for being out after hours. Would I be pathetic if I mentioned I still had the handkerchief? It’s the only thing I have to remember that moment by and I don’t want to forget it.

Among the other memories I have of when you were alive was seeing you in the halls. Your face always stood out in a crowed. I remember how happy you were when you were selected for the Triwizard Tournament. I remember how you helped Harry with the second task. I remember how happy you were surrounded by Cho and your housemates. I remember how you would help anyone who came in you path if they needed it, whether it was a smile in the hallway to brighten their day, help in a deadly situation, or anything in between. I will never forget how selfless you were.

Cedric it still leaves me speechless when I realize that someone as good looking as you were could be so beautiful on the inside. But I need to let it go. Harry told me something that Dumbledore told him when he was missing his parents first year. I can’t dwell on what could have been. I need to live. I need to let you go. I can’t be with you in this life.
