Do you think you might need Adult ADHD testing? Feeling overwhelmed by life? Facing consistent problems at work? Are you constantly late for projects and turning in assignments past the deadline? Can’t seem to get up and go? If you relate to the majority of these situations, you may be living with adult ADHD and should consider our comprehensive adult ADHD testing.

Know With Confidence If You Have Adult ADHD

You could take an online quiz and guess if you have ADHD. You could have your family doctor read you ten symptom questions and hand you pills. Or you go to a very busy psychiatrist. The doctor spends ten minutes with you and says: “I think you have ADD.”

This busy doctor prescribes you medication. You take the medication for a few months and then discontinues it due to side effects. Deep down, you’re frustrated and not sure if you really have ADHD. Years and months pass, but the problems persist.

Instead of this frustrating process, why not get tested at the Sachs Center? Where our doctors are experts in ADHD and Autism and many are neurodivergent themselves.

At the conclusion of the testing, you will know for sure if you have ADHD or not. At the Sachs Center, we offer holistic support for adults facing the challenges of ADD or ADHD. If you’re overwhelmed by daily tasks or find it difficult to stay organized and focused, you’re not alone. Many people like you experience these struggles, often without realizing they have ADHD.

ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) isn’t just a condition that affects children; it persists into adulthood. Adult ADHD can affect your job, personal relationships, and everything in between. An estimated 4.4% of adults in the US have ADHD.

The sooner you notice the signs of ADHD and seek proper evaluation, the sooner you can take back control of your life.

Which ADHD Testing Option Is Right For Me?

When considering ADHD testing at the Sachs Center, you have two primary options: an 8-hour neuropsychological evaluation-which involves a very extensive series of tests-and a comprehensive 2-hour test specifically designed for ADHD. Both are offered at the Sachs Center.

Neuropsychological Evaluations For ADHD Testing

This is a very detailed test that can take up to 8 hours. You will get a 25 page full report, and it is normally required if you need extended-time accommodations on standardized tests like the SAT, LSAT, or MCAT, or if you need support at a college or university.

This testing involves cognitive testing (IQ), academic testing, memory, emotional, and executive functioning (ADHD) tests. However, it is not necessary if you are simply interested to know if you have ADHD or if you would like accommodations in the workplace. This option can cost approximately $6,000.

What To Expect During An ADHD Assessment

Diagnosing ADHD in adult clients can be a complex process, as adult ADHDers often learn to mask their symptoms over time. This is especially true for women. ADHD symptoms can also overlap with other disorders, so it’s important to rule out other diagnoses by screening for mood disorders or thyroid/seizure disorders, as these conditions often mimic ADHD. We also recommend involving partners, family, and friends before your evaluation. While this is not necessary, it is helpful. You can have a loved one fill out a questionnaire if you wish.

The psychologists at the Sachs Center strive to make the ADHD testing process as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Here’s what you can expect during your evaluation:

Clinical Interview

You will meet with your psychologist online via Zoom or Google Meet. During the first 30 minutes, we discuss your current challenges, childhood experiences, school and work history, medical background, and family dynamics. Our ADHD doctors go beyond a simple checklist. We explore past and present ADHD signs, emotional regulation, academic and work performance, and personal and family psychiatric history.

Considering ADHD Diagnostic Criteria

There's no single test for ADHD, but specific criteria help guide diagnosis. To diagnose ADHD, certain criteria must be met, including:

  • ADD/ADHD symptoms must be present before the age of 12
  • ADD/ADHD symptoms experienced in multiple settings
  • Symptoms interfere with social, academic, or occupational functioning
We'll assess for a combination of inattentive and hyperactive/impulsive symptoms, ruling out other potential causes.

Self-Report ADHD Questionnaires

Following the initial interview, we'll administer evidence-based self-report tests online to assess impulsivity, executive functioning, distractibility, attention, and focus. You'll have a short break while we "crunch the numbers", combining technology with our years of clinical experience and expertise.

ADHD Diagnosis and Treatment Discussion

After completing the above steps, we'll discuss our findings with you, sharing our expert insights gathered from your questionnaire and overall assessment. This is when you'll officially receive your ADHD diagnosis if your test results indicate as such.

We understand that receiving an ADHD diagnosis can be overwhelming, so we take the time to answer your questions and explain our holistic approach to treatment. Your clinician will then discuss treatment options with you, which will be tailored to your needs. Multimodal treatment for ADHD can include psychoeducation, individual therapy, and medication if necessary.

Why Choose The Sachs Center For An ADHD Diagnosis?

If you make an appointment with the Sachs Center for ADHD testing, you can move forward with confidence, knowing for sure if ADHD is causing your daily challenges. We promise a comprehensive evaluation for Adult ADHD that is provided by a licensed psychologist. Other clinics in NYC do not offer you a psychologist but rather a social worker. Psychologists are specifically trained in the testing of mental health challenges. Social workers are not.

We understand the frustrations of previous evaluations that may have left you feeling uncertain or misunderstood. That’s why we prioritize a holistic approach, combining clinical expertise with empathy, understanding, and first-hand experience with being a neurodivergent adult. Our goal isn’t just to provide an ADHD diagnosis, but to empower you with the knowledge and resources needed to navigate life with ADHD successfully.

Conclusion

Whether you’re considering ADHD testing for yourself or a loved one, it can be transformative. It’s the first step towards understanding yourself better, gaining control over your brain, and unlocking your full potential.

Everything you need to know about ADHD testing

How do I know if I need ADHD testing?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by life, facing consistent problems at work, constantly late for projects, struggling to meet deadlines, or having difficulty staying organized and focused, you may benefit from ADHD testing. The Sachs Center specializes in helping adults understand whether ADHD is causing their daily challenges. Adult ADHD affects approximately 4.4% of adults in the US and can impact your job, personal relationships, and daily functioning.

At the Sachs Center, we offer two testing options. The 2-hour Diagnostic ADHD Testing focuses specifically on ADHD, screens for anxiety and depression, and provides same-day results with a diagnosis letter for medication referral or workplace accommodations. The 8-hour neuropsychological evaluation is more comprehensive, includes cognitive testing (IQ), academic testing, memory, and emotional assessments. It’s typically required for standardized test accommodations (SAT, LSAT, MCAT) or university support.

Yes! With the Sachs Center’s Diagnostic ADHD Testing option, you’ll receive your results and diagnosis (if applicable) within two hours of completing the assessment. You’ll also receive a letter with your diagnosis that can be used for medication referrals or workplace accommodations.

Yes, professional online ADHD testing conducted by the Sachs Center’s licensed psychologists is just as accurate as in-person testing. We conduct evaluations via Zoom or Google Meet using evidence-based self-report tests and comprehensive clinical interviews. This is different from simple online quizzes, which are not diagnostic tools.

At the Sachs Center, the assessment includes four main steps: (1) A 30-minute clinical interview with your psychologist discussing your current challenges, childhood experiences, work history, and family dynamics; (2) Review of ADHD diagnostic criteria; (3) Evidence-based self-report questionnaires assessing impulsivity, executive functioning, attention, and focus; (4) Discussion of findings and diagnosis with your Sachs Center clinician, along with personalized treatment recommendations.

While a family doctor might spend 10 minutes asking symptom questions, the Sachs Center provides a comprehensive psychological evaluation that gives you certainty. Our psychologists are specifically trained in testing mental health challenges and use evidence-based diagnostic tools. This thorough approach helps you know with confidence whether you have ADHD, avoiding years of frustration, incorrect medication, or missed diagnoses.

Yes, at the Sachs Center our ADHD testing screens for anxiety and depression, as these conditions often overlap with or mimic ADHD symptoms. We also consider other factors like mood disorders and medical conditions that can present similarly to ADHD, ensuring an accurate diagnosis.

While not required at the Sachs Center, it can be helpful to have partners, family, or friends provide input through questionnaires. This additional perspective can help paint a more complete picture of your symptoms and challenges, especially since adult ADHDers often learn to mask their symptoms over time. Our psychologists will guide you on whether this would be beneficial for your specific situation.

Absolutely! After your assessment at the Sachs Center, you’ll receive a diagnosis letter that can be used to obtain workplace accommodations. Our 2-hour Diagnostic ADHD Testing includes workplace accommodation support and provides all the documentation you need to request accommodations from your employer.

At the Sachs Center, treatment for ADHD is multimodal and tailored to your needs. Options include psychoeducation, individual therapy, medication (if necessary), and holistic support strategies. Your Sachs Center clinician will discuss these options with you during your diagnosis discussion and create a personalized treatment plan to help you manage your ADHD effectively.
