Back! Con report!
Good lord my legs hurt...but it's worth it! This time I was doing both Events and Con ops...glad I did both as I was able to attend so many events and help out! Although it felt like I didn't do enough for the Tea parties that happened and the Maid Cafe...but as the Con ops Director said: Presence is a big thing and just being there counts. So basically I was the stray pokemon that kept guard over the con. And know know that THAT means? LOTS and LOTS of walking! I think I lost a few pounds from so much walking and standing! So anyways, here's how it ran down day by day
Day 1
Arrvied around 10AM as the Events Director wanted to hold a meeting on how things would go down. Glad I did too as I was up to speed and got to know Elise as well as Cisco the partner of the Con Ops Director Robert. After a sausage and biscuit downed with Goji juice I got down to the first order of business:
Opening Ceremonies
Before that I was able to meet
Vic Mignogna. Yes, THAT Vic! You know, the guy who did Ed in
Full Metal Alchemist and Tamaki in
Ouran Host Club? I got him to sign my staff badge...which gave me the motivation to get the rest of the guests to sign my staff badge. The stories in which he's a friendly nice guy...they're true. It's all true. He also loves our con because the attendees at the first con were in his words "Well behaved and wonderful". Comes to show that not all anime fans are crazy....
The opening ceremonies started with a nice
intro movie...with the Ouran Host Club owner Tamaki (The blonde-haired bishie) doing the talking. It wasn't later until the movie ended in which...Vic was voicing Tomoki. That...blew my mind as I wasn't aware of this. Either the event psyched me up for the con as I moved on to the next event:
Human
Pokemon Tournament
Nothing fancy. Just dodgeball with beanbags. It was me as my espeon gijinka and a
pervy Kakashi vs. a
Team Rocket grunt (who's also a friend of mine) and her skunky.
Man...that fight was hilarious! Kakashi was quite comedian with the bawdy humor...sadly he had to keep it PG-13...but
Naruto and Sasuke!? :o (Note to self: Take pictures of me doing the face...)
But yeah, Team Rocket was epic fail due to my dodging skills and my best
sleight-of-hand skills I could muster. Throwing accurately also helped! I think we were going for comedic entertainment as the crowd was laughing hysterically at Kakashi's perverted humor
"Sexual Harassment attack!" "Fui!?" "Erm...ummm...Psychic attack!"
"FUI!" "Fui, use Swift while doing Thriller!" "Fui! Use Signal Beam but with the Napoleon Dynamite dance!" (Missed on that one...) "Fui! Use Signal Beam like a
little girl!"
*Cue girly pose then girly toss* "...you also
throw like a girl!"
*Cue limp wrist* Sadly I couldn't say anything but
"Fui!" being a pokemon and all. Ultimately I won and Team Rocket was blasting off again. Then the kicker...kicked in; Kakashi and I were to fight the Judge and her Pikachu. Needless to say I got
stomped and the final blow...was a
beanbag to my crotch. Fortunately the impact was absorbed by my clothes BUT I decided to sell it by faking the injury and falling over only to pass out. "Well, he won't be breeding anytime soon!" quiped Kakashi which got the audience laughing once again. Despite losing and being asked if I was ok we did win prizes. Even though the grunt lost I decided to let her have the pokemon figurines while Kakashi got the yoyos. My prize: A booster pack of pokemon cards. I don't do TCG but I'm keeping it as a con trophy anyways. That and the entire experience was a riot!
Next was switching to my umbreon gijinka outfit and best black suit...only to watch the door to the Ouran Tea Party door. After a bit I was sucked into the Ballroom dancing lessons to learn to dance for the Masquerade Ball. Yes, I learned how to waltz, do box step, and a bit of salsa. After that the ball started and I actually danced with one of my fellow staff members! Never knew that ballroom dancing could be so fun! After a bit of dancing and wearing myself out we decided to step out and just chat only to adjourn and head on home for the night. Wow...so much energy...and this was only the first day!
Day 2
Elise called me just as I was shopping for my morning juice to down and keep me going; she needed milk for the Saturday morning Cartoons and cereal event. How fortunate that I happened to be the right place at the right time as I got what's needed and made me way over. It wasn't until later in the day that I was reimbursed for buying the milk as I kept getting caught up in Con Ops business but that'll a bit later...
Vic Mignogna
I had to attend this as I missed the previous session. Mostly a Q&A but the answers he gave were quite insightful. That and I got to know him more and cementing the fact that he really is a nice guy! Who said that nice guys finish last? He managed to score his role in Tamaki even as he pined for the role! And of course after that was finished...
Vic Autographs
This time I brought my
Persona 3 FES case with instruction booklet as I failed to bring it so he could sign it; he did the role of Junpei. Long line but I was more than willing to wait! And of course I just had to know a friend who's a
squeeing fangirl. What are the odds?
After achieving that and a bit of downtime for R&R, it was time to have Trina Nishmura sign my badge and having to chat with her after the line died down. Also got Brina Palencia to sign it which left one more guest to sign the badge. After all of that was had...we were met with a crisis of sorts:
Reibu: The Dub
Yes, Cisco got the Con ops together so we could see what we can do to watch over the Reibu (japanese for 'rave' and we can't call it a rave as it gives bad conotations) as well as secure the entrance and rear doors to prevent unsavory characters and drunks from entering the con. A tense meeting but I don't blame him as he used to be a firefighter and security. He pretty much gave a
"Hold the Line" speech before he broke and dug our heels in for the long haul...as for me...I got lucky as I had to do these following events:
Guest Dinner
Yes, an excuse to eat well during the con while chatting with the guests. Which led to my
fourth and final signature for my badge. Yeah...I'll be making this a
tradition to have my staff badge signed by all the guests...hey, why not? It's an anime con and the big wigs in the anime come on over to partake in the fun for the fans! It's a reasonable achievement! Not only did I get full I also got to know the people at my table! Didn't get to dine with Vic but that's ok as the fangirls that were there got a chance to and had a blast!
Zodiac Tea Party
A
Fruits Basket themed tea party...
boy did I feel out of place! A stray pokemon in a rather rambunctious tea party in which if someone of the zodiac is hugged by someone of the opposite sex,
they're turned into the animal associated with them? And so many fangirls! Man the fangirl in my head was squeeing just as much as when I was attending Vic's events! That and the band on my umbreon ears was getting to me; I had to take some meds for the headache that I managed to get! Still it was fun to watch while scampering about and cleaning up after the guests and helping out with the little things. Although I can't help but to feel like I didn't do enough to help...even as I had to sleep for the night...at my home not at the con. Yeah...imagine a stray pokemon passed out somewhere at an anime convention...
Day 3
The final day...all good things have to come to an end and what has ended is rebirthed into something grander...that's what Stan (Guest Relations Director and acting Head Director) said at the closing ceremonies. I've gone a bit ahead of myself but I couldn't help it. I don't think I did much besides wander around and making sure things were ok. Although I did help out as much as I could at the maid cafe then watched the History of Anime and Con horror stories panels. After that...closing ceremonies. Hate to say goodbye to the con but all the fun and memories made...was well worth having to leave. Well not without the Dead Dog party to be had as a big thank you for being staff. Still full even as I write this...but it was well worth it.
In conclusion...what have we learned?
1) Squeeing fangirls are LOUD!
2) People love fuzzy things. Especially my espeon ears and tail!
3) Perverted humor makes everything better.
4)
Smiles go for miles! YOOMTAH~Believe it or not, I said that during the Dead Dog party. Minus the YOOMTAH.
5) There's never a stronger word for the staff of the con as
NakamaNote to self: paste more TV tropes links later...
In the meantime...
