Maybe it's just the flu.

So I've been spending a lot of time with my friend Mercedes (a.k.a. Mercy, Rogue, Gambit, March Hare, or Bunny) lately. I spend the night over at her house a lot, and she spent the night at mine for the first time last week. I took her over to our friend-of-the-family's and she got along great with everyone. We watch movies together and spend our mornings at school in the library, talking. Recently, I've been riding the bus to and from school with her.

She calls me her Hatter (Mad Hatter, because of the giant hat I wear in Drama Club) and I call her my Bunny (March Hare, because in Drama Club she wears a pair of bunny ears). She's the only one allowed to touch the hat and I'm the only one allowed to touch the ears. Every Wednesday before Drama Club starts, we walk down the halls wearing our props and cracking Alice in Wonderland jokes on our way to the vending machines to get soda.

Today, we went ice skating with two of our best friends, Max and Noah. At one point, Noah and I were taking a break on the sidelines, talking about writing, and Mercy was teaching Max to skate backwards out on the ice. There was no one else there because it wasn't a day off for the school near by, so they were the only two on the ice.

They were standing right in the middle, both of them, and Mercy was teaching Max to keep his balance, so they both had their arms spread out wide. Max started waving his arms emphatically and Mercy laughed, and Max laughed too. (We were far away and music was playing, so we couldn't hear, but you can tell someone is laughing from quite a long way off.) Then Mercy grabbed Max's hands and pushed him backwards a little, explaining how it was done as she went. They kept going, holding hands and talking and laughing, until Max got it, at which point Mercy jumped up and clapped for him.

They look really sweet together like that, for some reason. It's not that they would ever date or anything, but if they did, I think they might be a cute couple.

Why do I get a twisted feeling in the pit of my stomach whenever I think of that?

Someone tell me I'm not jealous. I can't be jealous...we're just friends. Friends don't get jealous when friends teach other friends to skate backwards.

Right?
