You asked for it.
This is for Lily, and Emmy and CC and whomever else wanted it. It's a truly monstrous and hideously informal AIM log of doom depicting events from 
mallowmateys occurring between Lucci and Kaku, played by me (runicbinary) and Charli (DemonOfShandora) respectively. It's formatted wonky, but I do not have the kind of time or energy necessary to do it better. YOU ASKED.
This is part one, a.k.a. The Luffy Problem Chronicles, which I just made up, because 'chronicles' is an awesome word, and Luffy is a problem. Part two, a.k.a. Undercover Origin Stories, will be posted when I feel like it, which will probably be in half an hour.
DemonOfShandora (10:08:32 PM): I dunno how Lucci will take a Kaku that is pacing somewhat angrily, tosses his hat away, runs his hands through his hair, and is like, "NO I am not okay!" XD
runicbinary (10:09:03 PM): He will be, I would say, briefly taken aback. XD
DemonOfShandora (10:10:01 PM): he'd probably grip onto Lucci's lapels at one point and be all like, "Tell me! Where did I fail? What did I do wrong!"
runicbinary (10:10:32 PM): Lucci would probably, inadvertanly, do the Look Of Disdain, and I don't imagine that would help the situation at all
DemonOfShandora (10:11:13 PM): Nope. Kaku would let go of the lapels and turn away from him, hands all clenched and shaking. Stilltrying to hold bits of it together. TRYING.
runicbinary (10:12:55 PM): And then Lucci would be like "I really just did that didn't I" and try like hell to figure out a way to explain that it was reflexive before realizing that that wouldn't help
runicbinary (10:13:23 PM): So he would just stand there quietly and eventually say something like "I didn't mean--" and then just stop
DemonOfShandora (10:14:50 PM): and Kaku would probably just raise a hand and shake his head. "No. I understand. I do. This...all of this. It's weakness to you." He'll gesture vaguely in reference to the way he is acting. "That must be it then. That is where I have failed." His voice is unpleasantly calm t hen, but bitter.
runicbinary (10:16:21 PM): And then Lucci would be so quiet he could practically feel his ears ringing and it would go on for several seconds too long, and finally he would just say "You're not weak, you're an idiot." Kind of distantly, because he couldn't believe what he was hearing
DemonOfShandora (10:18:36 PM): "An idiot. Then how am I supposed to react, then? Act like it's all okay? Act as though it's not my fault, somehow, that this has all happened? Act as though it doesn't bother me more than I want to admit?" He's turned back around by this point.
runicbinary (10:20:36 PM): "If you think I know how either of us is meant to react, you're sadly mistaken." He would probably turn halfway around so he didn't have to look at Kaku but he still could. "But I do know that you're an idiot for thinking that my weakness is your fault, and for thinking that you are the weak one."
DemonOfShandora (10:22:28 PM): "I think that perhaps it was something I did, or failed to do, however minutely, that opened the opportunity for said weakness." Kaku sits down then, feeling as though the fire's finally died away. Now he just feels empty, hollow. tired and frustrated, and no metter off than he did before. He puts his head in one hand, covering his eyes.
DemonOfShandora (10:22:39 PM): "Or that perhaps I was not enough."
DemonOfShandora (10:23:55 PM): He's not even MAD at Lucci or anything. It's all self loathing
DemonOfShandora (10:26:23 PM): (I'm a little confused on this point. How does LUFFY feel)
runicbinary (10:26:38 PM): "You're wrong. I could point out that you're also vain, but that's hardly appropriate." (As much as that felt like it should be a joke, it really wasn't.) "It isn't your fault in any way. It's...you are enough. It's not a matter of anyone being...inadequate, or better, or..." It's good Kaku isn't mad at him, because he's furious at himself enough for both of them if Kaku needs to borrow any. "When I'm with you...I can't think of him. You're the only thing that gives me any peace of mind right now."
runicbinary (10:27:44 PM): (Oh god I really have no idea. He says that he loves Lucci, because he loves all his nakama. I think he just doesn't separate romantic love and platonic love the way most people do. He says he has Usopp love and Nami love and Zoro love and that's how he separates it. XD)
DemonOfShandora (10:27:59 PM): (Oh XD it's totally not the same I think. Oh Luffy LOL <3)
runicbinary (10:28:24 PM): (I really can't figure out if he Just Doesn't Get It or if he doesn't think of it the same way normal people do XD)
DemonOfShandora (10:30:32 PM): Kaku laughs mirthlessly then. "But you did point it out," he comments dryly. He raises his other hand to his face and rubs his face slightly before sliding them back into his hair, which is nice and mussed now from his anger. His s houlders, normally nice and straight and confident, drop. "But I can't be with you all the time. I don't WANT to be with you all the time, I don't want to be jealous or suspiscious or bitter and drive you further away." He sighsm shaking his head. "So much for piece of mind."
DemonOfShandora (10:32:19 PM): (he MEANS...that he doesn't want to be with him every waking moment and thus smother him. cause him to lose all independence and such)
runicbinary (10:39:00 PM): "You haven't been driving me away." Lucci almost raises his voice a hair too much. "I don't want to be with you every waking moment either, but that isn't because I don't love you, it's because...it wouldn't be normal for us. We've never been that way. But I do like to be with you. I always have. You're..." Vocabularly is kind of falling short again at this point, as Lucci mostly just wants to break something. He settles for clenching his hands into fists and stuffing them in his pockets. "You have every right to be jealous and suspicious, but for what it's worth, I am never going to cheat on you, I never have, and I've never had any intention of doing so. I want you, and I love you and I want to be with you and I don't know how to say this any more clearly without carving it into my arm. I don't know what to do."
runicbinary (10:39:49 PM): (He knows that getting frustrated and angry is completely uncalled for on his part but he's had an extremely stressful week and he doesn't really have any other emotions to fall back on at this point)
DemonOfShandora (10:42:48 PM): "This I know. I never said I didn't believe you, Lucci. The issue at hand is how I am reacting to all of this. It's the hardest thing I've ever done, bar none. I would never suspect or accuse you of cheating or not loving me or anything because you would SAY so instead of going behind my back. I understand that. I know that. I respect and appreciate that. But I just want..." And then pauses, and he looks up at Lucci with a sudden look of dawning understanding. He's silent for a moment, then he chuckles again in quiet disbelief. "I understand how you feel. Feeling a certain way and wishing you didn't...I really do empathize..."
DemonOfShandora (10:46:50 PM): (brb shower)
runicbinary (10:51:38 PM): "I'm glad that you understand how I feel, because I still don't." Maybe it's a little too soon to be trying for humor, black and dry as it may be, but Lucci has never been one for appropriate comedic timing. "But..." He shakes his head, unclenching his fists, at least. "I think that emotions do us all more harm than good. But there is some good, and as long as I'm going to have them, I'm glad that at least someone can empathize." He wants to go and sit next to Kaku, but he doesn't know if that would be too close a gesture, and he hates not knowing that.
DemonOfShandora (11:01:51 PM): ACtually, Kaku wishes Lucci would come closer if he enjoys being near him so much. The distanceb etween them feels like more thna just the few feet physically that Lucci is standing apart from him.
"You know. A part of me if somewhat glad that I am feeling this way..." And he finally FINALLY meets Lucci's gaze, his eyes honest and intent. "It means that not all hope is lost for someone like me. Or like us. I wouldn't give up my reason for being so jealous and angry for anything."
runicbinary (11:08:32 PM): "...I know what you mean." It's the look that makes him move closer, but not too fast. He ends up sitting next to Kaku with his hands still in his pockets. It feels less like a confrontation this way. "I won't pretend that I haven't had disdain for emotion...or even that I still don't, a bit. But the fact that I am so affected by this is...I know how important you are. To me. I have never taken you for granted. But...now, I think I know that I never will. I can't."
DemonOfShandora (11:10:43 PM): Kaku looks at Lucci curiously, leaning forward on his knees and looking up into his face. "Why is that?" He's honestly curious; it's a rare thing to hear Lucci speak so blatantly about his feelings, and somehow, Kaku wishes he would do it more often, albient in a less tense and more pleasant atmosphere.
runicbinary (11:12:48 PM): "Because I can't lose you." That sounds a little too...something, or a lot too something, but Lucci can't pin down what it is. "And I don't want to hurt you. Out of all the people in the world, you're the one I could never bring myself to want to hurt."
DemonOfShandora (2:11:15 AM): Kaku would look at Lucci silently for a moment through that messed up orange hair (I always will forever imagine him with the hair my gf draws him, so imagine that style but really messed up because he messed it up XD), taking it in. "...That's quite a statement coming from you..." He'll sigh, and still lean on his knees, his hands steepled together thoughtfully. "...I...do not want to lose you either. I realize how maudlin that sounds, and when you confronted me the other day, I thought initially that that was exactly what was happening..."
DemonOfShandora (2:16:27 AM): (do you need me to repost or something?)
runicbinary (2:16:41 AM): No, my internet is just being stupid
DemonOfShandora (2:16:51 AM): (okay =3 *kicks your internet*)
runicbinary (2:20:42 AM): "I wish that I could have determined beforehand how not to give you that impression." Lucci defaults to logic and intellect when emotions crowd him and make him uncomfortable, which is more or less any time he tries to talk about them. But he'll try not to do that this time, or at least not so much. "I think...somehow I assumed that you wouldn't believe that even if I told you flat out. It just doesn't seem...possible, to me."
DemonOfShandora (2:21:31 AM): (hurting Kaku doesn't seem possible, he means. Yes?)
runicbinary (2:21:58 AM): (No, more like leaving him doesn't seem possible)
DemonOfShandora (2:22:17 AM): (Oh. in a good way, that is. XD I assume.)
runicbinary (2:22:24 AM): (Yes XD)
DemonOfShandora (2:25:18 AM): "I assumed that, when feelings for another person arise, they tend to crowd out or drown out the feelings for the other person. But I don't pretend to understand the workings of emotion, attraction, love, or anything of that nature. Perhaps if I did I would not have exploded on you just moments before. Hence...I was certain that I had been cast aside. Which would explain my rather professional behavior at the time. I was determined not to break in front of you and make the situation worse. Though it seems I've done a pretty poor job at that." He chuckles dryly at this.
runicbinary (2:29:19 AM): Lucci thinks about that, and the jagged edges of things he couldn't understand are starting to fit together like puzzle pieces. "No," he says slowly, "I think it may have made the situation better. I don't understand any of this either, and you...trying to decipher confusion in you that I can't sort through myself was nearly impossible, until you showed me how you felt. I think I understand now, somewhat."
DemonOfShandora (2:30:12 AM): (They really do work so well together, don't they?)
runicbinary (2:30:27 AM): (Somehow, and thankfully XD)
DemonOfShandora (2:35:01 AM): Kaku laughed again, a little more warmly now. More like his old self. It's refreshing to hear. "Ah, I knew you kept me around for a reason..." This was said in a lightly teasing fashion. But the mild humor fades just as quickly, though not in a bad way. "Fujiko mentioned to me that emotions are like...near death wishes. They are something you ride out, regardless of the outcome, and when you survive them, you come out stronger than before...it's an unconventional analogy, but she makes a point. Lucci, you already know what I think about your feelings for Luffy. An infatuation, perhaps, though only you can really determine that for yourself. And I may not like it...actually, truthfully, I loathe it, but they are your feelings and they are just as valid as mine..." He takes a long breath and sighs. "I will do what I can to help you work past them...and when this is all over, if you still want me..." Kaku smiles then hopefully. "Consider me the calm in the storm. Recent outbursts being the exception."
runicbinary (2:45:42 AM): "It's rapidly becoming apparent how much I need that," Lucci points out, smiling a little too (but just a little, because smiling isn't really his forte). "For what it's worth, if you feel a need to suckerpunch me at any point, I will give you one free." Serious again, but more comfortable than grave, he looks at Kaku for several seconds. "I will want you. Always. The future is an unpredictable and likely ridiculous thing, but I do know that for sure." Finally, he takes one hand from his pocket and, haltingly, almost carefully, he reaches up to brush the back of his hand against the side of Kaku's face. It's not a lingering gesture, and he feels immediately stupid after doing it, but he doesn't regret it anyway.

DemonOfShandora (2:46:37 AM): (LOL)
DemonOfShandora (2:51:17 AM): Kaku looks deeply surprised at the gesture; for all the years that they've been together, simple acts of affection like this were generally not the norm. At all. As soon as Lucci goes to pull away, Kaku's hand is there lightening quick and grasps it, but not harshly. "Suckerpunch? No. But I may just kick you at some point in the near future instead. Without warning." His eyes are twinling a little now, finally. Yes, the future IS going to be a ridiculous thing; it only took a simple look around at the crew they were a part of to realize this. "You know, just to make things interesting. And by the way." His eyes narrowed then, in sharp contrast. "If you are concerned that *I* was the one becoming bored, then you really do not hold yourself in high enough regard. Rob Lucci, boring. How quaint."
DemonOfShandora (2:54:07 AM): (I'm throwing Kaku into the party. BECAUSE THERE IS AN NPC BLUENO)
runicbinary (3:01:04 AM): Lucci never expected his gesture to be acknowledged this way, but he accepts it as fair turnabout. He's never actually had his hand held that he can remember, even informally in midair, and he isn't sure how to respond, exactly. But he does smirk. Smirking, he knows. "You tell me this. You should know that you're in no way remotely boring, either, and I'm quite surprised to find that you seem to think so. You remain one of the least boring people I've ever met, and on top of that, you can hold a coherent discussion. It's not a common combination, you know."
DemonOfShandora (3:04:15 AM): "They are traits that do seem to be lacking on this ocean, you are right." Kaku is grinning in return to the smirk; he finds that he is feeling better now. Lucci had been right (of course), his outburst had made things better in the long run. "I will remember this in the future when I start to feel too inadequate for you. Fair enough?"
runicbinary (3:07:13 AM): "Fair enough. If we could get to a point, eventually, where you don't feel inadequate to begin with, that would be ideal. You know that I wouldn't love you if I thought you were somehow weak or useless. You may not be able to beat me in a fight, but that doesn't mean you aren't strong. You ought to know that." It's a statement of fact, not a reprimand.
DemonOfShandora (3:09:29 AM): "This I do know. But being strong in a fight or skilled in various types of combat, espionage, and other random assortments of talents does not always make for an appealing lover. BUT," He interjects before Lucci can say something about this. "You have already made your point clear. And I will always trust you to tell me when you dislike something I have done." He pauses. "These feelings of inadequacy are recent developments, as I'm sure you know."
runicbinary (3:11:35 AM): "I'm glad for that," Lucci says quietly. "If I found out that you'd been feeling this way for years, I would have to kill you." He says it straight-faced and completely deadpan, but he knows that Kaku will understand it
runicbinary (3:11:37 AM): s a joke.
DemonOfShandora (3:12:28 AM): "And here I was under the impression that you would never wish to hurt me. Reniging on your word so soon?" Kaku is smirking now too in that infernally cocky way that he does so well.
runicbinary (3:14:36 AM): "I am patently evil, you understand." Lucci is smirking too, now, despite the fact that this one is probably partly true.
DemonOfShandora (3:16:11 AM): "I do understand this. But then again, that's why we work so well together." The smugness is still extremely evident. "How many people in this world can claim to understand the workings of your mind and not be frightened or horrified?"
runicbinary (3:17:22 AM): "Very, very few, and none quite so well as you do." He concedes that Kaku has reason to be smug, in this case.
DemonOfShandora (3:22:19 AM): "A mantle I carry with extreme pride, you will notice." Of course, despite all appearances, Kaku is just a little bit evil himself. Takes one to know one, after all. And nothing Lucci can do (short of havign feelings for Luffy) will horrify him. Kaku is also aware that this is a very Lucci and Kaku way of saying that they need each other on more than just an emotional level. Not as a crutch, but as two halves to a whole. "So. I have another question for you. Were it any other couple, you would find the need and 'dependence' on each other revolting and most likely a very large weakness. How then, do you justify us?" The question was spoken with a purely curious, philosophical tone. He knew that Lucci could either be very complex in his mentalities or very simple, depending on the nature of the subject at hand.
DemonOfShandora (12:12:46 AM): Did you see what Fujiko thinks about how Lucci is feeling?
runicbinary (12:13:07 AM): I did!
runicbinary (12:13:18 AM): It is pretty much completely accurate. XD
DemonOfShandora (12:13:35 AM): Ahaaa! See, I was thinking that she might be right on the money

runicbinary (12:38:08 AM): And Lucci will be thinking "this is either going to end really really badly or really well and I can't tell which"
DemonOfShandora (12:39:05 AM): But as soon ass Kaku approaches him all smiles, it's very...disconcerting. XD Because he's going to walk right up to Lucci and give him a nice big kiss. Put both his hands on Lucci's jaw and bam. Without a word. That's how he starts this conversation
runicbinary (12:40:14 AM): And Lucci is going to be like, ah, right, really well then, and also kind of like ...what's going on should I be worried
DemonOfShandora (12:40:56 AM): And then Kaku, breathless from the fact that he pretty much ran and jumped to get to where Lucci was, basically starts explaining in a very patient way about this theory of Fujiko's
runicbinary (12:43:51 AM): And Lucci will listen to this very very carefully
runicbinary (12:44:02 AM): And then he will be quiet for awhile
runicbinary (12:44:06 AM): And completely blank.
runicbinary (12:44:13 AM): And then he will sit down. Kind of hard.
DemonOfShandora (12:44:41 AM): And Kaku will sit across from him and allow Lucci to tihnk about this in silence
runicbinary (12:46:57 AM): And Lucci will actually open his mouth to say something at one point and the decide against it which he never does
runicbinary (12:47:41 AM): And then a little later he will say "Ah," very thoughtfully, and sort of develop a vacantly pensive expression
DemonOfShandora (12:48:19 AM): This will make Kaku shift a little uncomfortably. For the first time in a long time, he is unsure as to what sort of reaction that really was.
runicbinary (12:50:38 AM): Eventually Lucci will look up at him, perfectly clear, and say "You know." And he will pause. And then continue, "I may have to reevaluate my opinion of that woman's intelligence."
DemonOfShandora (12:51:09 AM): At this, Kaku's face will break into that wonderful smile of his and he laughs.
runicbinary (12:54:45 AM): And then Lucci will smile a little, not very much because he doesn't really do that unless someone is suffering, and someone finally isn't for once.
DemonOfShandora (12:56:36 AM): Kaku finishes laughing, and notices the smile, which is nice all the same, and odd to see that it's not that...scary smile when someone is getting wounded. It's a flicker of that humanity just below the surface. He leans forward in his seat, resting his elbows on his knees, and holds his gaze steady. "Do you feel better, Lucci?"
runicbinary (12:59:53 AM): "I do. I feel..." It was getting a little easier to interpret his own feelings. That was a significant turn for the better. "Relieved, I think."
DemonOfShandora (1:02:01 AM): Kaku just grins at him, also equally relieved. He nods. "Me too...me too. After Fujiko brought that to my attention, I cannot begin to describe the level of sheer...elation I felt."
runicbinary (1:14:09 AM): Lucci knows, accutely, that everything isn't automatically fixed now. He knows there's probably going to be more talking at some point. But...right now, he feels...happy? Yes. And he knows that things are better, and that's good. "I'm happy, too." It's all he can think to say.
DemonOfShandora (1:18:35 AM): "Ah! Good!" Kaku scoots his chair a little closer to Lucci; their knees are nearly touching. "This is still going to be a long road. I never would have guessed that adjusting to this new life would have been so difficult and trying, especially for you. Despite everything, you always seemed so flawless; nothing could harm you. A foolish notion, I realize, but this is the first time I've truly seen you this distressed...knowing that it seemed to have passed for now...I'm glad."
runicbinary (1:35:31 AM): Lucci is...not completely shocked to hear this from Kaku, but still taken aback. And glad, knowing that Kaku is, and that things make sense again, at least in part. "Thank you," he says suddenly. And is kind of surprised, because he isn't sure he meant to say that.
DemonOfShandora (1:37:51 AM): "Ah, you don't have to thank me. If you must thank someone, thank Miss Fujiko for her wisdom. I am only the messenger." Kaku watches his expression carefully, curious to see these new aspects of Lucci's personality. He finds it deeply interesting to see his partner slowly evolve from the assassin that he once was.
runicbinary (1:44:55 AM): Lucci reaches out to put his hand on Kaku's knee, as if to get his attention. "I didn't mean for that. Although I am thankful for that, of course. I meant, for..." Ah, but he doesn't know how to phrase this. He thinks, looking down as he rubs circles into the side of Kaku's knee with his thumb, mostly unconscious. "For being my humanity...thank you."
DemonOfShandora (1:46:59 AM): Kaku does a brilliant job of not flushing slightly, both at the sentiment and at the attentions. "...I'm not your humanity, Lucci. I'm only helping you discover your own. You proved to me long ago that it was there somewhere when you and I began this relationship." He smiles and leans forward a little more, resting his hands on Lucci's arms.
runicbinary (1:59:36 AM): "Then thank you for that." He smirks, and he feels a little ridiculous for just wanting to touch Kaku because he's still there and it feels like things are going to be okay. But he doesn't let the ridiculous feeling stop him and he lifts his other hand to the side of Kaku's face and leans in to kiss him.
DemonOfShandora (2:01:56 AM): Kaku meets him halfway for that kiss, raising a hand to Lucci's jaw and drawing him in. He's smiling brilliantly; the first truly happy smile in several days. He takes a moment to tangle his fingers in Lucci's hair fondly, enjoying the nice chill that seemed to always come with tihs sort of contact. Years hadn't dulled this, he realized.
runicbinary (2:24:37 AM): Years haven't dulled this for Lucci, either. He's always felt sorry for people who lost this over time, this feeling...because they don't have what he has. Everyone should envy him. His first instinct is to pull Kaku toward him, probably too hard, but instead he moves forward and ends up straddling Kaku's legs, shoving him against the back of his seat, because maybe he can give a little but he's going to take a little, too.
DemonOfShandora (2:26:11 AM): (rawr)
runicbinary (2:26:35 AM): (^_^ Sorry that took me so long, I'm watching a show >_>-)
DemonOfShandora (2:27:17 AM): The unexpected action takes Kaku by surprise, and the way he stiffened slightly showed that. But he rallied magnificently and pulls Lucci down from his new position, biting onto his lower lip with the most subtle of chuckles.
DemonOfShandora (2:27:20 AM): (It's okay!)
runicbinary (2:42:23 AM): "You know," Lucci remarks as he settles himself a little more comfortably, one hand braced on Kaku's shoulder as the other rubs the back of Kaku's neck under his collar, "I've just discovered some part of me that always wanted to say 'We have to stop meeting like this,' but I'd never be able to do it with a straight face. It's unfortunate, really."
DemonOfShandora (2:44:40 AM): There's a glint in Kaku's eye. "Ah, but you did just say it, and with a straight face too." He puts a hand to Lucci's midsection, gripping his jacket just where the buttons keep it closed. "Perhaps you can think of sometihng more to your liking?"
runicbinary (2:49:09 AM): "Context is important," Lucci says sagely, and moves his hand from Kaku's shoulder to close over the hand gripping his jacket. He leans in until their lips are almost touching, so close he can feel Kaku's heartbeat, and whispers, "But I'm sure we'll think of something more suitable."
DemonOfShandora (2:50:51 AM): "We always were good at thinking on our feet...or not, as the case may be." The deviousness in his gaze was unmistakable now; when he says this, their lips brushed just slightly. He smirks, teeth just barely showing through the expression.
runicbinary (3:07:40 AM): "I think I have a few ideas," Lucci says, and crushes their mouths together again. No, this is definitely never going to get old... He finds himself with his arms wrapped around Kaku's shoulders, wondering vaguely when that had happened. Momentarily, the situation turns slightly surreal, because he doesn't think he's felt this...close, very often. Not quite like this. But he said to Luffy once, trying to describe it, that part of being in love with someone is wanting to be as close to them as you can. And Lucci wants this.
mallowmateys occurring between Lucci and Kaku, played by me (runicbinary) and Charli (DemonOfShandora) respectively. It's formatted wonky, but I do not have the kind of time or energy necessary to do it better. YOU ASKED.This is part one, a.k.a. The Luffy Problem Chronicles, which I just made up, because 'chronicles' is an awesome word, and Luffy is a problem. Part two, a.k.a. Undercover Origin Stories, will be posted when I feel like it, which will probably be in half an hour.
DemonOfShandora (10:08:32 PM): I dunno how Lucci will take a Kaku that is pacing somewhat angrily, tosses his hat away, runs his hands through his hair, and is like, "NO I am not okay!" XD
runicbinary (10:09:03 PM): He will be, I would say, briefly taken aback. XD
DemonOfShandora (10:10:01 PM): he'd probably grip onto Lucci's lapels at one point and be all like, "Tell me! Where did I fail? What did I do wrong!"
runicbinary (10:10:32 PM): Lucci would probably, inadvertanly, do the Look Of Disdain, and I don't imagine that would help the situation at all
DemonOfShandora (10:11:13 PM): Nope. Kaku would let go of the lapels and turn away from him, hands all clenched and shaking. Stilltrying to hold bits of it together. TRYING.
runicbinary (10:12:55 PM): And then Lucci would be like "I really just did that didn't I" and try like hell to figure out a way to explain that it was reflexive before realizing that that wouldn't help
runicbinary (10:13:23 PM): So he would just stand there quietly and eventually say something like "I didn't mean--" and then just stop
DemonOfShandora (10:14:50 PM): and Kaku would probably just raise a hand and shake his head. "No. I understand. I do. This...all of this. It's weakness to you." He'll gesture vaguely in reference to the way he is acting. "That must be it then. That is where I have failed." His voice is unpleasantly calm t hen, but bitter.
runicbinary (10:16:21 PM): And then Lucci would be so quiet he could practically feel his ears ringing and it would go on for several seconds too long, and finally he would just say "You're not weak, you're an idiot." Kind of distantly, because he couldn't believe what he was hearing
DemonOfShandora (10:18:36 PM): "An idiot. Then how am I supposed to react, then? Act like it's all okay? Act as though it's not my fault, somehow, that this has all happened? Act as though it doesn't bother me more than I want to admit?" He's turned back around by this point.
runicbinary (10:20:36 PM): "If you think I know how either of us is meant to react, you're sadly mistaken." He would probably turn halfway around so he didn't have to look at Kaku but he still could. "But I do know that you're an idiot for thinking that my weakness is your fault, and for thinking that you are the weak one."
DemonOfShandora (10:22:28 PM): "I think that perhaps it was something I did, or failed to do, however minutely, that opened the opportunity for said weakness." Kaku sits down then, feeling as though the fire's finally died away. Now he just feels empty, hollow. tired and frustrated, and no metter off than he did before. He puts his head in one hand, covering his eyes.
DemonOfShandora (10:22:39 PM): "Or that perhaps I was not enough."
DemonOfShandora (10:23:55 PM): He's not even MAD at Lucci or anything. It's all self loathing
DemonOfShandora (10:26:23 PM): (I'm a little confused on this point. How does LUFFY feel)
runicbinary (10:26:38 PM): "You're wrong. I could point out that you're also vain, but that's hardly appropriate." (As much as that felt like it should be a joke, it really wasn't.) "It isn't your fault in any way. It's...you are enough. It's not a matter of anyone being...inadequate, or better, or..." It's good Kaku isn't mad at him, because he's furious at himself enough for both of them if Kaku needs to borrow any. "When I'm with you...I can't think of him. You're the only thing that gives me any peace of mind right now."
runicbinary (10:27:44 PM): (Oh god I really have no idea. He says that he loves Lucci, because he loves all his nakama. I think he just doesn't separate romantic love and platonic love the way most people do. He says he has Usopp love and Nami love and Zoro love and that's how he separates it. XD)
DemonOfShandora (10:27:59 PM): (Oh XD it's totally not the same I think. Oh Luffy LOL <3)
runicbinary (10:28:24 PM): (I really can't figure out if he Just Doesn't Get It or if he doesn't think of it the same way normal people do XD)
DemonOfShandora (10:30:32 PM): Kaku laughs mirthlessly then. "But you did point it out," he comments dryly. He raises his other hand to his face and rubs his face slightly before sliding them back into his hair, which is nice and mussed now from his anger. His s houlders, normally nice and straight and confident, drop. "But I can't be with you all the time. I don't WANT to be with you all the time, I don't want to be jealous or suspiscious or bitter and drive you further away." He sighsm shaking his head. "So much for piece of mind."
DemonOfShandora (10:32:19 PM): (he MEANS...that he doesn't want to be with him every waking moment and thus smother him. cause him to lose all independence and such)
runicbinary (10:39:00 PM): "You haven't been driving me away." Lucci almost raises his voice a hair too much. "I don't want to be with you every waking moment either, but that isn't because I don't love you, it's because...it wouldn't be normal for us. We've never been that way. But I do like to be with you. I always have. You're..." Vocabularly is kind of falling short again at this point, as Lucci mostly just wants to break something. He settles for clenching his hands into fists and stuffing them in his pockets. "You have every right to be jealous and suspicious, but for what it's worth, I am never going to cheat on you, I never have, and I've never had any intention of doing so. I want you, and I love you and I want to be with you and I don't know how to say this any more clearly without carving it into my arm. I don't know what to do."
runicbinary (10:39:49 PM): (He knows that getting frustrated and angry is completely uncalled for on his part but he's had an extremely stressful week and he doesn't really have any other emotions to fall back on at this point)
DemonOfShandora (10:42:48 PM): "This I know. I never said I didn't believe you, Lucci. The issue at hand is how I am reacting to all of this. It's the hardest thing I've ever done, bar none. I would never suspect or accuse you of cheating or not loving me or anything because you would SAY so instead of going behind my back. I understand that. I know that. I respect and appreciate that. But I just want..." And then pauses, and he looks up at Lucci with a sudden look of dawning understanding. He's silent for a moment, then he chuckles again in quiet disbelief. "I understand how you feel. Feeling a certain way and wishing you didn't...I really do empathize..."
DemonOfShandora (10:46:50 PM): (brb shower)
runicbinary (10:51:38 PM): "I'm glad that you understand how I feel, because I still don't." Maybe it's a little too soon to be trying for humor, black and dry as it may be, but Lucci has never been one for appropriate comedic timing. "But..." He shakes his head, unclenching his fists, at least. "I think that emotions do us all more harm than good. But there is some good, and as long as I'm going to have them, I'm glad that at least someone can empathize." He wants to go and sit next to Kaku, but he doesn't know if that would be too close a gesture, and he hates not knowing that.
DemonOfShandora (11:01:51 PM): ACtually, Kaku wishes Lucci would come closer if he enjoys being near him so much. The distanceb etween them feels like more thna just the few feet physically that Lucci is standing apart from him.
"You know. A part of me if somewhat glad that I am feeling this way..." And he finally FINALLY meets Lucci's gaze, his eyes honest and intent. "It means that not all hope is lost for someone like me. Or like us. I wouldn't give up my reason for being so jealous and angry for anything."
runicbinary (11:08:32 PM): "...I know what you mean." It's the look that makes him move closer, but not too fast. He ends up sitting next to Kaku with his hands still in his pockets. It feels less like a confrontation this way. "I won't pretend that I haven't had disdain for emotion...or even that I still don't, a bit. But the fact that I am so affected by this is...I know how important you are. To me. I have never taken you for granted. But...now, I think I know that I never will. I can't."
DemonOfShandora (11:10:43 PM): Kaku looks at Lucci curiously, leaning forward on his knees and looking up into his face. "Why is that?" He's honestly curious; it's a rare thing to hear Lucci speak so blatantly about his feelings, and somehow, Kaku wishes he would do it more often, albient in a less tense and more pleasant atmosphere.
runicbinary (11:12:48 PM): "Because I can't lose you." That sounds a little too...something, or a lot too something, but Lucci can't pin down what it is. "And I don't want to hurt you. Out of all the people in the world, you're the one I could never bring myself to want to hurt."
DemonOfShandora (2:11:15 AM): Kaku would look at Lucci silently for a moment through that messed up orange hair (I always will forever imagine him with the hair my gf draws him, so imagine that style but really messed up because he messed it up XD), taking it in. "...That's quite a statement coming from you..." He'll sigh, and still lean on his knees, his hands steepled together thoughtfully. "...I...do not want to lose you either. I realize how maudlin that sounds, and when you confronted me the other day, I thought initially that that was exactly what was happening..."

runicbinary (2:20:42 AM): "I wish that I could have determined beforehand how not to give you that impression." Lucci defaults to logic and intellect when emotions crowd him and make him uncomfortable, which is more or less any time he tries to talk about them. But he'll try not to do that this time, or at least not so much. "I think...somehow I assumed that you wouldn't believe that even if I told you flat out. It just doesn't seem...possible, to me."
DemonOfShandora (2:21:31 AM): (hurting Kaku doesn't seem possible, he means. Yes?)

DemonOfShandora (2:25:18 AM): "I assumed that, when feelings for another person arise, they tend to crowd out or drown out the feelings for the other person. But I don't pretend to understand the workings of emotion, attraction, love, or anything of that nature. Perhaps if I did I would not have exploded on you just moments before. Hence...I was certain that I had been cast aside. Which would explain my rather professional behavior at the time. I was determined not to break in front of you and make the situation worse. Though it seems I've done a pretty poor job at that." He chuckles dryly at this.
runicbinary (2:29:19 AM): Lucci thinks about that, and the jagged edges of things he couldn't understand are starting to fit together like puzzle pieces. "No," he says slowly, "I think it may have made the situation better. I don't understand any of this either, and you...trying to decipher confusion in you that I can't sort through myself was nearly impossible, until you showed me how you felt. I think I understand now, somewhat."
DemonOfShandora (2:30:12 AM): (They really do work so well together, don't they?)
runicbinary (2:30:27 AM): (Somehow, and thankfully XD)
DemonOfShandora (2:35:01 AM): Kaku laughed again, a little more warmly now. More like his old self. It's refreshing to hear. "Ah, I knew you kept me around for a reason..." This was said in a lightly teasing fashion. But the mild humor fades just as quickly, though not in a bad way. "Fujiko mentioned to me that emotions are like...near death wishes. They are something you ride out, regardless of the outcome, and when you survive them, you come out stronger than before...it's an unconventional analogy, but she makes a point. Lucci, you already know what I think about your feelings for Luffy. An infatuation, perhaps, though only you can really determine that for yourself. And I may not like it...actually, truthfully, I loathe it, but they are your feelings and they are just as valid as mine..." He takes a long breath and sighs. "I will do what I can to help you work past them...and when this is all over, if you still want me..." Kaku smiles then hopefully. "Consider me the calm in the storm. Recent outbursts being the exception."
runicbinary (2:45:42 AM): "It's rapidly becoming apparent how much I need that," Lucci points out, smiling a little too (but just a little, because smiling isn't really his forte). "For what it's worth, if you feel a need to suckerpunch me at any point, I will give you one free." Serious again, but more comfortable than grave, he looks at Kaku for several seconds. "I will want you. Always. The future is an unpredictable and likely ridiculous thing, but I do know that for sure." Finally, he takes one hand from his pocket and, haltingly, almost carefully, he reaches up to brush the back of his hand against the side of Kaku's face. It's not a lingering gesture, and he feels immediately stupid after doing it, but he doesn't regret it anyway.

DemonOfShandora (2:51:17 AM): Kaku looks deeply surprised at the gesture; for all the years that they've been together, simple acts of affection like this were generally not the norm. At all. As soon as Lucci goes to pull away, Kaku's hand is there lightening quick and grasps it, but not harshly. "Suckerpunch? No. But I may just kick you at some point in the near future instead. Without warning." His eyes are twinling a little now, finally. Yes, the future IS going to be a ridiculous thing; it only took a simple look around at the crew they were a part of to realize this. "You know, just to make things interesting. And by the way." His eyes narrowed then, in sharp contrast. "If you are concerned that *I* was the one becoming bored, then you really do not hold yourself in high enough regard. Rob Lucci, boring. How quaint."
DemonOfShandora (2:54:07 AM): (I'm throwing Kaku into the party. BECAUSE THERE IS AN NPC BLUENO)
runicbinary (3:01:04 AM): Lucci never expected his gesture to be acknowledged this way, but he accepts it as fair turnabout. He's never actually had his hand held that he can remember, even informally in midair, and he isn't sure how to respond, exactly. But he does smirk. Smirking, he knows. "You tell me this. You should know that you're in no way remotely boring, either, and I'm quite surprised to find that you seem to think so. You remain one of the least boring people I've ever met, and on top of that, you can hold a coherent discussion. It's not a common combination, you know."
DemonOfShandora (3:04:15 AM): "They are traits that do seem to be lacking on this ocean, you are right." Kaku is grinning in return to the smirk; he finds that he is feeling better now. Lucci had been right (of course), his outburst had made things better in the long run. "I will remember this in the future when I start to feel too inadequate for you. Fair enough?"
runicbinary (3:07:13 AM): "Fair enough. If we could get to a point, eventually, where you don't feel inadequate to begin with, that would be ideal. You know that I wouldn't love you if I thought you were somehow weak or useless. You may not be able to beat me in a fight, but that doesn't mean you aren't strong. You ought to know that." It's a statement of fact, not a reprimand.
DemonOfShandora (3:09:29 AM): "This I do know. But being strong in a fight or skilled in various types of combat, espionage, and other random assortments of talents does not always make for an appealing lover. BUT," He interjects before Lucci can say something about this. "You have already made your point clear. And I will always trust you to tell me when you dislike something I have done." He pauses. "These feelings of inadequacy are recent developments, as I'm sure you know."
runicbinary (3:11:35 AM): "I'm glad for that," Lucci says quietly. "If I found out that you'd been feeling this way for years, I would have to kill you." He says it straight-faced and completely deadpan, but he knows that Kaku will understand it

DemonOfShandora (3:12:28 AM): "And here I was under the impression that you would never wish to hurt me. Reniging on your word so soon?" Kaku is smirking now too in that infernally cocky way that he does so well.
runicbinary (3:14:36 AM): "I am patently evil, you understand." Lucci is smirking too, now, despite the fact that this one is probably partly true.
DemonOfShandora (3:16:11 AM): "I do understand this. But then again, that's why we work so well together." The smugness is still extremely evident. "How many people in this world can claim to understand the workings of your mind and not be frightened or horrified?"
runicbinary (3:17:22 AM): "Very, very few, and none quite so well as you do." He concedes that Kaku has reason to be smug, in this case.
DemonOfShandora (3:22:19 AM): "A mantle I carry with extreme pride, you will notice." Of course, despite all appearances, Kaku is just a little bit evil himself. Takes one to know one, after all. And nothing Lucci can do (short of havign feelings for Luffy) will horrify him. Kaku is also aware that this is a very Lucci and Kaku way of saying that they need each other on more than just an emotional level. Not as a crutch, but as two halves to a whole. "So. I have another question for you. Were it any other couple, you would find the need and 'dependence' on each other revolting and most likely a very large weakness. How then, do you justify us?" The question was spoken with a purely curious, philosophical tone. He knew that Lucci could either be very complex in his mentalities or very simple, depending on the nature of the subject at hand.

runicbinary (12:40:14 AM): And Lucci is going to be like, ah, right, really well then, and also kind of like ...what's going on should I be worried
DemonOfShandora (12:40:56 AM): And then Kaku, breathless from the fact that he pretty much ran and jumped to get to where Lucci was, basically starts explaining in a very patient way about this theory of Fujiko's
runicbinary (12:43:51 AM): And Lucci will listen to this very very carefully
runicbinary (12:44:02 AM): And then he will be quiet for awhile
runicbinary (12:44:06 AM): And completely blank.
runicbinary (12:44:13 AM): And then he will sit down. Kind of hard.
DemonOfShandora (12:44:41 AM): And Kaku will sit across from him and allow Lucci to tihnk about this in silence
runicbinary (12:46:57 AM): And Lucci will actually open his mouth to say something at one point and the decide against it which he never does
runicbinary (12:47:41 AM): And then a little later he will say "Ah," very thoughtfully, and sort of develop a vacantly pensive expression
DemonOfShandora (12:48:19 AM): This will make Kaku shift a little uncomfortably. For the first time in a long time, he is unsure as to what sort of reaction that really was.
runicbinary (12:50:38 AM): Eventually Lucci will look up at him, perfectly clear, and say "You know." And he will pause. And then continue, "I may have to reevaluate my opinion of that woman's intelligence."
DemonOfShandora (12:51:09 AM): At this, Kaku's face will break into that wonderful smile of his and he laughs.
runicbinary (12:54:45 AM): And then Lucci will smile a little, not very much because he doesn't really do that unless someone is suffering, and someone finally isn't for once.
DemonOfShandora (12:56:36 AM): Kaku finishes laughing, and notices the smile, which is nice all the same, and odd to see that it's not that...scary smile when someone is getting wounded. It's a flicker of that humanity just below the surface. He leans forward in his seat, resting his elbows on his knees, and holds his gaze steady. "Do you feel better, Lucci?"
runicbinary (12:59:53 AM): "I do. I feel..." It was getting a little easier to interpret his own feelings. That was a significant turn for the better. "Relieved, I think."
DemonOfShandora (1:02:01 AM): Kaku just grins at him, also equally relieved. He nods. "Me too...me too. After Fujiko brought that to my attention, I cannot begin to describe the level of sheer...elation I felt."
runicbinary (1:14:09 AM): Lucci knows, accutely, that everything isn't automatically fixed now. He knows there's probably going to be more talking at some point. But...right now, he feels...happy? Yes. And he knows that things are better, and that's good. "I'm happy, too." It's all he can think to say.
DemonOfShandora (1:18:35 AM): "Ah! Good!" Kaku scoots his chair a little closer to Lucci; their knees are nearly touching. "This is still going to be a long road. I never would have guessed that adjusting to this new life would have been so difficult and trying, especially for you. Despite everything, you always seemed so flawless; nothing could harm you. A foolish notion, I realize, but this is the first time I've truly seen you this distressed...knowing that it seemed to have passed for now...I'm glad."
runicbinary (1:35:31 AM): Lucci is...not completely shocked to hear this from Kaku, but still taken aback. And glad, knowing that Kaku is, and that things make sense again, at least in part. "Thank you," he says suddenly. And is kind of surprised, because he isn't sure he meant to say that.
DemonOfShandora (1:37:51 AM): "Ah, you don't have to thank me. If you must thank someone, thank Miss Fujiko for her wisdom. I am only the messenger." Kaku watches his expression carefully, curious to see these new aspects of Lucci's personality. He finds it deeply interesting to see his partner slowly evolve from the assassin that he once was.
runicbinary (1:44:55 AM): Lucci reaches out to put his hand on Kaku's knee, as if to get his attention. "I didn't mean for that. Although I am thankful for that, of course. I meant, for..." Ah, but he doesn't know how to phrase this. He thinks, looking down as he rubs circles into the side of Kaku's knee with his thumb, mostly unconscious. "For being my humanity...thank you."
DemonOfShandora (1:46:59 AM): Kaku does a brilliant job of not flushing slightly, both at the sentiment and at the attentions. "...I'm not your humanity, Lucci. I'm only helping you discover your own. You proved to me long ago that it was there somewhere when you and I began this relationship." He smiles and leans forward a little more, resting his hands on Lucci's arms.
runicbinary (1:59:36 AM): "Then thank you for that." He smirks, and he feels a little ridiculous for just wanting to touch Kaku because he's still there and it feels like things are going to be okay. But he doesn't let the ridiculous feeling stop him and he lifts his other hand to the side of Kaku's face and leans in to kiss him.
DemonOfShandora (2:01:56 AM): Kaku meets him halfway for that kiss, raising a hand to Lucci's jaw and drawing him in. He's smiling brilliantly; the first truly happy smile in several days. He takes a moment to tangle his fingers in Lucci's hair fondly, enjoying the nice chill that seemed to always come with tihs sort of contact. Years hadn't dulled this, he realized.
runicbinary (2:24:37 AM): Years haven't dulled this for Lucci, either. He's always felt sorry for people who lost this over time, this feeling...because they don't have what he has. Everyone should envy him. His first instinct is to pull Kaku toward him, probably too hard, but instead he moves forward and ends up straddling Kaku's legs, shoving him against the back of his seat, because maybe he can give a little but he's going to take a little, too.

DemonOfShandora (2:27:17 AM): The unexpected action takes Kaku by surprise, and the way he stiffened slightly showed that. But he rallied magnificently and pulls Lucci down from his new position, biting onto his lower lip with the most subtle of chuckles.
DemonOfShandora (2:27:20 AM): (It's okay!)
runicbinary (2:42:23 AM): "You know," Lucci remarks as he settles himself a little more comfortably, one hand braced on Kaku's shoulder as the other rubs the back of Kaku's neck under his collar, "I've just discovered some part of me that always wanted to say 'We have to stop meeting like this,' but I'd never be able to do it with a straight face. It's unfortunate, really."
DemonOfShandora (2:44:40 AM): There's a glint in Kaku's eye. "Ah, but you did just say it, and with a straight face too." He puts a hand to Lucci's midsection, gripping his jacket just where the buttons keep it closed. "Perhaps you can think of sometihng more to your liking?"
runicbinary (2:49:09 AM): "Context is important," Lucci says sagely, and moves his hand from Kaku's shoulder to close over the hand gripping his jacket.
