Because I just remembered I haven't put my Tokyo Ghoul stuff on here.
Also, is it just me or is the Friends page kind of wacky? There are no posts past the first page o___o

I so love the family dynamic of the Quinx Squad. Haise the parent figure, Urie the rebellious child, Shirazu the (not very reliable but big-hearted) big brother, Mutsuki the mild-mannered good child, and Saiko the spoiled little sister. I have to admit, my affections lie more on the Tokyo Ghoul:Re side than the original Tokyo Ghoul. Not to say that the Anteiku ghouls aren't Kaneki's family too, but while their story was a bittersweet one, there's a certain cheeriness to the Quinx due to Haise's personality, an aspect which I get to enjoy-

Haise deserves all the love he can get on Valentine's Day. I'm inclined to think that, despite the humans' general hostility towards the poor little half-ghoul, secret admirers are hiding in every corner of the organisation. Haise has the skills, the achievements, the looks, and the manner - someone's GOTTA admire him XD

Influenced by the Paris Fashion Week post-hype, I decided to have a go at fashion AU-ing the oh so catwalk Urie. Look at his waif-like figure, Dior Homme and Saint Laurent would so dig that.

I semi-revived my VFQ AU because Zoolander's epic appearance at Paris Fashion Week inspired me to do something fashion-y again XD. This could be the beginning of a Fall issue...? Only time (the availability of it) and opportunity will tell.

Someone on Tumblr wanted to see how I'd draw Nekoma boys in suits so I presented her the only Nekoma members I remembered. Kuroo has an awesome hairstyle and Kenma doesn't like being drawn by me.

Tsukishima immediately became my favourite just because he was tall and an asshole XD

I think Karasuno's crow motif is really cool, don't you? Tobio is laugh-out-loud hilarious while being tsuntsun, he's quite a novel character.

September saw the birthdays of two of my favourite tall boys, how could I miss it? Initially, Tsukki was about to plop a piece of cake into his mouth but there were so many like-minded birthday art posts so I... Well, make of this scene what you will.

I've... been on a Free!-drawing frenzy. I hadn't felt such fangirling urge for so long (I thought it died with KHR lol) I had to draw every night or I might combust.

Not LJ-cutting because how many people are still on LJ these days anyway? XDD

I get a kick out of Haru and Sousuke's height difference. Since Haru seems to annoy Sou something fierce, this kind of action isn't unlikely.

Makoto is the swimming club captain so he should look more buchou-esque.

I can't believe this cottoncandyhead is named KISUMI. You are too much, author of High Speed ahahaha

I gave up waiting on Sousuke to get his own official Arabian Nights-inspired outfit, so I designed my own.

Bride!Lulu for Kura

A long time ago, honeycorrupts and I messed around with a Code Geass AU idea in which Lelouch is female. Only a few years later did I learn that this kind of AU is called "genderbend" and that fandom knows her as "Luluko", a name that is as light-hearted as it is unlikely XD. Some people call her Leloucia, others prefer it as is (seeing how "Lelouch" isn't exactly a gender-specific name), but I personally just call her "Lulu". Who knows, maybe Shirley is on to something there.

Anyway, Kura (does she still have her LJ?) saw my bride Chrome post and, having just posted a series of bride Lelouch drawings herself, asked me how I would draw my own version of bride Lelouch. I told her I had already turned that idea into a drawing but it was on paper and I’d lost it long ago. I was willing to redraw it… as long as she didn’t mind a genderbent Lelouch XDD

She didn’t mind so here I am.

I truly believe that male Lelouch has extravagant tastes to the point of being impractical (how much of this is influenced by gag doujins, I’m not sure). This “the grander the better” mindset, coupled with the royalty factor AND the Britannian fashion sense being what it is… I can expect female Lelouch (let’s call her Lulu for now) to show up on her wedding day looking like she has the wrong address to a Venetian masquerade. But. Just this once, allow me to further fanon-ise this already-pretty-damn-fanon wedding theme by injecting a lot of what I personally want to see on bride Lulu into her dress design.

My design is only 10% influenced by CLAMP – check out the wing motifs – so it’s not reeeeally a Code Geass-y sight, but that’s not my aim. Anyway, since she’s a princess of a highly stylised empire, I figured she’d be more runway show bride and less real-life bride, hence the bold butterfly-like silhouette with the tiered organza cape. The cape is held in place by a wing-shaped necklace and you can bet there’s a precious stone set between the wings, maybe ruby.

Her chantilly lace gloves begin just below the shoulders to compensate for the decollete bodice XD. The figure-hugging dress tapers slightly at the knee and flares out into a train at the bottom. The dress’s top half is covered in intricate beadwork (not shown optimally in sketch) spreading out in a gradation towards the bottom half. Needless to say, that whole thing is pretty darn heavy and I daresay quite a job to fold up. It would’ve been completely backless if not for the flimsy beaded motif across the small of the back. I’m not sure if her heels are platformed, but her stature’s not exactly… in want, so I guess they’re 10cm heels at most.

Her hair is put up in a simple braided updo with the veil attached to her tiara. There’s a headdress hugging the nape of her neck and coming up in two pairs of wings on either side of her head. Her cascade bouquet consists of white roses with a row of white lilies spilling down the center. Overall, everything is white white white which should look pretty decent against her black hair and purple eyes.

I expect nothing less than a super long veil on a princess. The whole length can’t fit inside this frame.

Of course, what’s a Britannian royal without their Knight of Honour? He also has to look presentable on the big day. Represent his charge the best he can as an Honoured Eleven, you know. He’d be standing within sight of her throughout every process.

Knee-high boots, various achievement medals, a decorative sword strapped to his side (because the real thing, as you’ve seen in the anime, is ginormous).

What’s that, Kura? He looks like he COULD be the groom? Naw man, if he’s the groom he’d be dressed like a royal and in my head he’d be more like…

Hmm, I kind of like his knight outfit better… I’m sure CLAMP would make Prince Consort Suzaku dress 100x less boring XD

Loosely based on ekmisao's simple yet endearing Days In Venice because I loved it so much and, with things I love, I just can't help but draw it. It's easy to write him as this ultra-smooth, superhuman, ultimate seme which is what fandom mostly does because that is all that canon shows. Reborn has always had a special spot in my fangirl heart for exactly the above reasons but now that I've seen his potential to be more than that by way of EK's writing... I think I now prefer an insecure Reborn so much more.

He stopped behind a woman with cropped raven hair. She hid one of the symbols of her family: a long strand of hair in a stream through her back. She had tied it up and kept it in her felt cap.
“Scusi, signorina. I was just informed.” He tipped his fedora.
She turned to face him. Her eyes grew wide. She placed a hand over her gaping mouth. Then she took a deep breath, composed herself, and smiled warmly. She stepped forward and wrapped her arms around his waist, her head resting over his shoulder. “I’m so glad it’s you.”

Being inconspicuous requires them to act the part of a lovey-dovey couple. She's only too happy to oblige as she takes him by the arm around to see the sites. He tries his best to play along while quelling the discomforts of a previous job. He's the Vongola's best man for anything, damnit, he would get through this job even if it's a haggard, caffeine-powered him against maybe a whole army of assassins.

At one point, they are under attack and, in an attempt to blend among the crowd, shop for new clothes. I'm not sure what I was trying to do with this, but it kind of looks like the tailor is recommending a light-coloured suit (hilarious if white) to Reborn, complimenting the way the fabric drapes over his gun holster, and Reborn is just like "Sorry, old man, not fit for my line of work."

In the story, they don't ride on a gondola! Reborn mentions why they shouldn't, too. Big deviation, this, but you can't possibly draw something that is set in Venice and not include a waterway and a gondola lol. He comes out of the shop wearing a vest and tinted glasses. Gotta love a fashionable paranoid hitman.

They weave in and out of shops and cafes and navigate alleyways in order to reach their rendezvous spot while trying to shake off pursuers. This scene is one of my favourite for giving an imagery of the city's pretzel of an interconnecting nature and teeny-tiny, huddled together buildings.

Reborn's boss in this period of time is Daniela, the Vongola Eighth. He successfully gets Luce safely to her meeting with Daniela and a non-allied family representative. All is well and happy ending? Ah, but I won't spoil.

- In the story, a kind of haggard, fresh-out-of-a-job Reborn meets Luce at a train station. It's not mentioned where exactly do they set off on their trip to Venice so I decided on a train station in Taormina, Sicily. Credit for the background reference goes to Ms. Janette La Robina's photography.

- I enjoyed dressing Luce in 50's fashion. She also made me embark on a hunt for cloche hats as well as consider a bob. Too bad I didn't get to show her long ponytail seeing how I had smartly avoided drawing Reborn's bandaged torso by skipping the hotel scenes. Knowing my habit of revisiting and amending old works, there's a good chance that I'd add 1-2 more to this set, but that time won't be soon XD - Thanks to this mini project, I got to know more about Neapolitan canzone, more specifically, Renato Carosone and Roberto Murolo's music. This genre now has its own playlist on my iTunes, though occasionally a foreign number such as Pink Martini's Aspettami or Spanish serenades would sneak in just because they sounded fitting XD

- Reborn, as he is addressed by any Italian character, is now "Renato" in my headcanon.

I'd normally post my quick drawings on en_syn but does anyone watch that comm at all lately? ;;; Some of these aren't new new but I had to wait until I'd amassed enough for a dump post.

I knooow Uni canonically calls Reborn “uncle” and not “grandpa” which was the initial (mis)translation but, meh, I was already too far into that fanon to U-turn. I can easily picture Ninth sitting somewhere off-screen and nodding rhythmically to the music… And he’d be the family man type who makes sure that even the top hitman gets to see his granddaughter in-between assignments because probably Reborn hardly gets a break!

Since KHR ended in that way, there’s very little hope of ever knowing what the grown Tsuna looks like. Logically, Tsuna would’ve grown up into Giotto’s carbon copy but I refuse to buy when the man doesn’t even look like a grown man! Rarrgh... Anywhoo, I like the idea of Tsuna forever being under Reborn’s tutelage (and death threats!). Even when Tsuna’s become something of a revolutionary Vongola boss and Reborn is a “child hitman” slowly growing back into his original body.

If Namimori High School had the same uniform design as its middle school (I hope not), Chrome would probably look like this by the time she gets there, huh? I tend to picture her with shoulder-length unruly hair as she slowly grows it out. She’d still have the same sort of spaced out air about her and she probably doesn’t understand why other girls fixate on makeup and clothes to the extent that they do. There’s the ever-helpful Kyouko and Haru by her side, though, to teach her the way of kawaii-ness one baby step at a time. Chrome is mostly obliging… as long as she gets to keep her skull eyepatch and pineapple tuff!

I seem to revise my old Valentine’s Day entries lately, I know ;;; Ideally, you should be able to treat past suckiness as part of a lifelong learning process BUT it’s frigging Valentine’s Day so everything I draw in celebration of that day NEEDS to be satisfactory by my standard (meaning I’ll keep updating them as the years pass orz).

LOL now that I look at this pic again, it’s like she’s purposely lounging around in her knickers just so she could tell him to back off and keep it down until she’s done with her box of chocolates, what. I didn’t raise her to be a sadist!

I'm on a roll whooo~~~ It's like I'm making up for the 3-4 years of almost no fandom activities. If Juvia looks a bit more mature than she should, that's because I cast Automatic +5 Years on just about everyone I fanart, unfailingly! XDD ~~why did you not take advantage of the TWO timeskip opportunities you got, Mashimaaaa~~

I decided to draw Juvia right after wrapping up my 300-chapter marathon. As for why she ended up being my favourite mage, I can safely blame it on the water element factor. I... may have a weakness for things related to rain and/or the colour blue: Umi was my favourite Magic Knight, Soldier Blue remains one of my favourite tragic heroes, I still wish I had Sailor Neptune's personal life XD, Yamamoto was my first ever pick for a favourite Guardian even though my pref eventually shifted but... eh cloud isn't too far off.

I wanted to draw these two in 50s style so hopefully that explains the 180 hairstyle change? XD I find that Chrome doesn't look so bad with shorter, wavier hair but I wonder what people think of a Hibari with slicked back bangs?

The background was originally in colour and a pretty vibrant palette at that, but I settled on this version after deciding I kind of liked it better minimalistic.

Happy Valentine's Day anyway XDD Been a while since I last drew 1896.

Uh... Let's see, how do you post on LJ again... Wow, my hands still remember the codes.

No matter what, I love this place and I wish everyone was still here T___T

I started colouring because Ibuki Satsuki's wuxia-themed illustrations inspired me so darn much sob sob. No matter how hard I try, it's impossible for me to emulate watercolours on Painter, but I ditched my cel-shading habit anyway and went for a less rigid colouring style...

I love Hakuei! I know this isn't what her djinn equip canonically looks like, but I wanted to draw her black-haired and ready for battle XD. I still have problems with perspective but meh.

While trying to keep my Kou Empire people a bit more real world-looking than in the anime, I came to a dead end when I got to Kouen the Flame Emperor ;;; I just can't imagine him being anything but ginger-haired - red suits his personality too much.

Aaand I'm back to black hair with Hakuei's dead brothers. Hakuren may remind you of a certain happy-go-lucky swordsman but I'm quite satisfied with how they turned out XDD. I'm very happy for being able to splash on colours with gleeful abandon!

Ultra late 5/5 entry

I scrapped the initial plan of drawing up a messy doujin and went with this instead:

When I was flipping through VFQ Summer 2009, I found a block of text I didn't remember I'd written in which AU!Hibari apparently first became known via some fictional teen magazine called "Gakuen Prince" (...the embarrassment of typing that out). So, in a whatever goes fashion, I went about my work in 1/4 amusement and 3/4 embarrassment.

Let's pretend that when the magazine writer or whoever took up the suicidal task of photographing the cloud boy in his natural habitat, he was already a third-year senior in the totally fanon Namimori High ~~completely disregarding the fact that the text says "middle school" lalalala~~. Assuming Nami-chuu is an elevator school and he finally decided to be in the grade he was supposed to be in (assuming he's the same age as Ryouhei in the manga who's 16 I think), I switched around Nami-chuu uniform's colour palette to create Nami High's because it was quickly done.

P.S. Yep, I totally took St Sebastian from Orpheus no Mado and Lacombrade Academy from Kaze to Ki no Uta lol. Also, thank you kasugai_gummie for lending a few ideas to the copywriting XD

I know, I know... May 5th has passed and I ought to keep my promise to always draw something with extra effort every Children's Day. Unfortunately, I remembered too late and was already halfway through finishing this...silly AU idea that came about in wake of a certain hit show from last season x___x. So I figured that since I never posted my 5/5 submissions on time anyway (I wrapped last year's, what, exactly one week after?) I decided to plow onwards with the current WIP.

Inspector Sawada could've sworn he's seen those faces somewhere. The hyperintuition he never knew he had momentarily turns away from tumblr to mutter a curt "Uh, sorry".

Oh, and I've always wanted to see the guardians fight hand-to-hand. No magic flames. No magic animals. It'll be hot, I bet.

Belated Happy CNY 2013!

It's not late before the 25th, riiight?

I knew I wanted to draw something for CNY this year (because looking through pages of cheongsam dresses does that to a fanartist) but… When I put my stylus over an empty canvas I had an instant art block. What scenery to draw? o__o I mean, when you say “Japanese new year” images easily come to mind: girls in gorgeous kimono, people hatsumode-ing (not a proper word XD), sending postcards, mochi, flying kites, playing fukuwarai and karuta et cetera et cetera…

So it is ironic to celebrate CNY and have less of an idea as to what people do on that day. The first thing that came to mind was oranges. Eating lots and lots of oranges while you watch distant relatives catch up with one another. Sure, there are lion dances but it’s not exactly what normal people do lol. Oh, and red packets; how can I forget red packets. And… that’s about all I do every CNY. Maybe the more traditional families do more exciting things, I dunno lol.

Amano's on a roll, ending each chapter with an Arcobaleno in true form. This arc already gave me trueform!Reborn so none of the trueforms that followed so far did anything for me =/. Unless Amano decides to show us Mammon's face. He/she and Reborn were the only ones with noir film-style shadow conveniently cast over their eyes after all.

Super high-speed battle, huh? I must remember to pull a super high-speed something the next time I need to cut corners in a tight doujin deadline lol

Something unexpected: A bit of light has been shed on Fon and Mammon's dynamics. The bickering has got to be my favourite moment in this chapter XDD

Are you trying to convince me that the man who easily mopped the floor with Future AU's Big Bad Guy in the previous chapter can't stand up to Reborn?

So why the hell was Reborn dead in the future?

Actually, I'm willing to buy the "strength in number" story. AU!Byakuran had an army (dem Moscas) and out-of-this-world technology (eg. an airship of sorts in the shape of his smug mug); what was one scrawny godmod yet mortal man?

BUT STILL. It's not like we got that kind of backstory. And I just realised that I've no idea WHAT I'm trying to justify here. Amano's renowned inconsistencies?

On a better note, this chapter feels like meeting an old friend. For a moment there, it's like this series reverts back to its old self.
