                              About Nova Caps

Classic Roman inscriptional letters are reinvented in Nova Caps, a fresh new display type family from Tania Chacana. The family takes its cues from the old world and the new, drawing from Roman epigraphs in the museums of Rome and Lyon and from architectural Art-Deco inscriptions in Buenos Aires.

However, behind the august constructions of the letters lies a subversive outlook to display typography. The letterforms themselves are all capitals, with petite caps and small caps substituting for lowercase in a variety of settings in whatever combinations you choose. The family covers a stylistic space from narrow to wide, in a full range of weights from light to bold, all of which can be mixed and matched together to create unique designs.

Nova Caps reached beyond its inscriptional origins. Its vast toolkit of decorative ligatures, stylistic alternates, and automatically nesting combinations explores contemporary variation in editorial settings.
