The Adventures of Tintin

I just came back from watching The Adventures of Tintin from Spielberg in 3D. All in all, I say it was 3 out of 5. Lots of action, shooting, and fight screens. Snowy the dog came out very bad ass. Tintin was a little too Marysue for my taste, he seem to know everything and came off very action hero. The overly realistic animation kind of took away the charm of Herge's classic Tintin. I would have like a more cartoon look for Tintin. Instead of a Belguim accent, Tintin sounded very British.

Puss in Boots

Just saw Puss in Boots today with my mom. It rocked, the reviews were on point. My mom is ESL, so it turned out to be a little hard for her to understand, but the animation was well done that you could follow the story by watching action and what's more you didn't even need to watch Shrek to get the badassness of Puss in Boots.

Antonio Banderas is bit old for me, so never really got why he was consider such a hottie, but the way he worked his vocals for Puss made him seem like a true ladies' man. He sounded sexy and roguish. The script worked well, reminding all of us that every badass is really a mama's boy deep down. And you better be scared of mama. While Salma Hayek sounded cool, I actually wish she put on more of a sex kitty purr in her voice. I heard her be sexier. The movie rocked without Shrek and Donkey.

Overall, the movie could did great, despite it being part of a franchise that has been done to death, overly cute characters and heavy star power oriented marketing. A minor goof was when Softpaws breaks out Puss, she throws him his hat, boots, and sword, but not his belt. Yet in the next shot he is wearing his belt. But other than subtle problems like these, it flows well. I would say that the movie was a 3.5-4 out of 5. Story not really original, but got lots of witty lines, subtle sexual content (but than not many are interested in furries) and humor, most of all it showcase Puss in Boots in all its glory.

Just saw In Time

I just saw the new sci-fi Justin Timberlake movie, In Time which did not suck like the reviews said it would. Not saying that it was Tron level good movie. In fact, I thought that they should have actually worked better on their special effects. In a world were genetic engineering has taken the world by storm, we have no flying cars? Also, Johnny Galecki aka Leonard from The Big Bang Theory makes his big screen debut, yet we are more impressed that Olivia Wilde plays Timberlake's mom? Come on, as a sci-fi movie, it should be promoting Galecki who's been making a guest appearance at Comic Con for years. That's where the fans are for sci-fi.

The film itself seems Gattaca wannabe in the era of Occupy Wall Street with a touch of Bonnie and Clyde. Another thing I didn't get for a movie that carry everyone stop aging at 25, why were there so many people over 25 in it. Timberlake's 30, Galecki is 36,Olivia is 27, Bomer is 34, etc... So advance technology, yet all the fashion is a throwback to the past. Although it does have better chase scenes than Gattaca, although for a movie billed for partial nudity there really wasn't that much nudity at all. Timberlake's acting is decent, he still needs to work on his crying. But he plays the white ghetto boy of the TI and Timberband age quite well, as well as a few subtle hints to the mama's boy of *Nsync age. We also get the woman's hater from his 'What goes around age.'Timberlake's mother complex shines through quite clear.

Overall, I would say about 2.5-3 out of five. I probably could have enjoy this movie on the small screen the same way I could on the large. Not sure I would want to see it again.
Greenpeace

Well, a few years back I posted a entry regarding a bizarro incident with Greenpeace in which they basically brush off my questions regarding what Greenpeace is doing to help end the human trafficking and slavery issues in America. With Greenpeace, I have been made to feel annoyed when I tell them as a starving college student who still lives with her parent, I don't have that much money to donate, but I am willing to sign any petition for support of the environment. It always bothered me that they never let me sign those petitions without me first giving money. I had only two positive experiences, once when I admitted I had no money but the guy shake hands with me anyways, while the other was when a canvasser tried to get me to save tigers but ended up helping me do outreach for a upcoming book sale that I was doing.

Yesterday, I talked with a friend who actually worked for Greenpeace for about a week. Turns out, in exchange for getting insurance benefits and stuff, they have to meet a consider quota of people recruited and that the organizers actually train them to be aggressive salespeople. Odd, since one of the first Greenpeace people I met had did a bit about how as 'nonprofit' they were all benevolent. Nope, turns out the canvassers don't do rallies or protest, instead all they do is stand around campus telling people to donate money to Greenpeace...while I like there ideals, it would be nice if your recruiters didn't treat us like shit for saying 'look I am broke, but willing to help you out with your petitions.'

Burlesque

So, I borrowed the Christina Aguilera and Cher movie, Burlesque, I had wanted to go see it in the threaters but ended up not being able to watch in time.

It is campy, but with a musical its kind of hard not to be.

The movie really does showcase Christina's acting abilities and her music sequences were boss. Cher's music numbers were good too, however, pity she only did two. Overall, I thought the movie did a excellent job as a musical. It made sense why Christina was breaking out in song, no awkward moments when people are in mid-dialog and it turns into a song &dance number. The choreography was amazing as well were the dancers. The cuts and editing was good so it didn't look spliced. It was funny in the right places and catty at the nice places too.

However, I have to didn't quite understand why a small-town girl with big dreams would want to work at strip club/lounge. wouldn't she be aiming higher like a record contract? Cher's second sound number seem to have been placed at a odd place, I didn't get why she would suddenly was just singing without a audience. The end's song was nice, but the dialog was a bit Hollywood happy-ending. The dialog didn't really drive the movie. I guess with a PG13 rating its hard to make a movie that risque. While lots of skin, not as sexual as you would think a movie with so many hotties would have been.

I give the movie 8/10. The plot could have been better, but the soundtrack was just amazing. If you just closed your eyes and listen it was a delight. Totally should have seen this at the Grammys for Best SoundTrack.

Christina Aguilera, why do we want to keep her down

Okay, I was just reading the comments that people put down about Christina Aguilera, who everyone in the music business has consented should be considered 'The Voice of a Generation.'

2010 was a rough year for her, and it seems everyone would like to jump down on her for being imperfect. Yes, this is the first studio album not to certified (oddly enough, critics jumped on her for not being original, while Lady Gaga is being praised for bringing back the 1980s?), she got divorced (which isn't actually unusual for Hollywood, let's face it her contemporaries Lavigne, Britney, and both Simpsons all got failed marriages), and her movie didn't do as well as expected (I don't understand why they called it a flop, as movies went it is technically average, it broke even and ended up 19th best selling film of the year out of 1,658 just really shows that it was basically a bad year all around and not am attack on her acting skills. Which based on reviews seem to show that she was actually better than expected), and whatever else they are saying.

2011 is nicer to her, right now her duet with Maroon 5 is #1 on itunes, she is making big money on The Voice, and she just recorded a lovely Spanish song. Still, I run into articles by Entertainment Weekly which like to claim she is being too diva, too racy on The Voice, read comments by users about her being 'fat or piggy,' or whatever else.

First of all, her weight, let's face it the average size in the US is 12 and even now I doubt she is larger than 6-8 so calling her fat is basically calling the rest of the women in US obese. Okay, her comments on The Voice as the solo woman on the show, she makes some 'racy/flirty' comments on the show and they treat it like she is sexually harassing the men, while Cee-Lo Green and Blake Shelton also make comments about the hotness of the women or their dicks and we don't think that is on the same level? O.o Double standard much? As for her arrest and mug shot, she was cleared and even the police admit that she was the passenger in the car, so while not smart (Britney went to criminal court for attacking a car, so why is it that a while back the OMG wrote that even Britney never went that far?) And for the flop on the Star-Spangled Banner, why the hell am I seeing comments that she deserves to be raped or that 'she probably would have gotten the Mexican anthem right?' (She is Latina, but when did that actually mean Mexican? People do realize that Latin American covers all of Central and South America, as well as Spain, etc...right?)

Recently, I saw a article of about a jewelry company replacing Aguilera with a new younger model, the article makes it sound like Aguilera is going out, while Britney got replaced by Vanessa something a while back for a clothing line yet the magazines made it sound like Britney was just passing the torch....k, so why the awkward spins.

I mean, here is a strong powerful woman who had a bad year, we would cheer for Britney when she did far worst, yet for Aguilera who despite being the youngest judge on The Voice has the most Grammys (even not counting her Latin Grammy, Cee-Lo only as 3, Maroon 5 about 2, and Shelton 0), is amazing voice, and one of the best selling solo recording artist in the past 50 years, she is getting the 'haha' love to see her fall treatment that Mariah Carey got. Why do we punish talent and hard-work, while reward and praise those who made deserve a little praise and a more swift quick kick-in the pants. (I am still waiting for Lady Gaga to apologize for using 'chola' and ''Oriental' in her supposed gay anthem, why did she realize that saying 'retard' is wrong but not realize that racial slurs need apologies too. While Chris Brown still on probation for beating Rihanna got a apology from ABC for asking him standard interview questions and him breaking a window, while Adam Lambert still has not been invited to sing live since 2009?)

Disgusted by the misogynistic 'critique'

Wow, a friend on facebook posted this article and how she was pissed at the way Winston Wu, apparently someone that "has praised by Nobel winners and reputable authors" (despite the fact, it is actually Nobel Prize winner and authors that write good vampire novels), decided to completely bash Janet Hsieh, a host on a TV Travel show, Fun Taiwan' as his female counterpart. ( Apparently there was no way this writer-editor-founded of Happier Abroad (eyeroll) could compete with Connie Chung)

It is almost impossible to figure out where to start from. First, he claims this is a intellectual critique, the title is 'Janet Hsieh Sucks' (real classy). Half rant against Asian women, delusional self-promotion, and a strange internal racism against his motherland, Taiwan.

He basically attacks her, with implications that all Asian American women are shallow and fake, while he is a original. (though Asian man stepping all over Asian women, yeah, misogynous are original concepts) He claims to atypical Asian, but the way he goes about is by just trashing Hsieh (she works on a travel show, and being positive about Taiwan's tourist areas means that she is a fake and spreading lies to brainwash world. Apparently, no other travel show ever shows only the positives of the places they showcase). To be even more sicken he has links to articles he wrote about himself and comparisons to other Asians (oh joy, stereotype free flow). He even goes as far as saying that Hsieh doesn't get the praise he does, adding a link to the 'praise page' of his website, where one name random folks seem to write how they love him.

It seems that Hsieh can speak five languages (poor Wu can only do 4), play the violin, is optimistic about life, and is well-education, translation she isn't a free thinker and generic Asian. (So, the fact that she is smart is actually a flaw. Well, since he apparently is refusing to tell us about his educational background) I don't even have to be a Hsieh fan to find this article disgusting.

He is Glenn Beck in yellowface. One of the creepiest things he mentions is his #10 reason why he is original is that he is a Asian that dates outside of his race. (Hmmm, ummm, you do realize that the fact that there are biracial children in the world shows that it has been done before, right?)

To make it just downright painful, his Chinese translation of the article was done through Google translate and it just shows.
Will the fees never end?
I live in really really giant county, and have for almost all my life. Always consider myself a resident of this county. But apparently due to fact that county has no money. They (the Evil Powers that Be) have just decided to put a annual non-resident $80 fee to anyone not in the unincorporated part of the county. Joy, guess, where I live?

Yep, I happen to live in the biggest incorporated city in the county, so suddenly I am a non-resident (WTF) and to make matters worse. My family owns three library cards....$240 fee yearly, yikes...

Now, we have to decide is it worth it to even keep the library cards...yeah, the library has some good stuff there, but $240...*sigh*
Disgrace to my race

I was in the wrong...but in no way did I deserve to be told that I was a disgrace to my race. So, today in Fremont, I was peeling a orange while walking across the street, during that time the peels drop to the ground, since I only had about a few seconds before the light turned I left the peels on the ground. So, I littered.

When I crossed the street, I had to walk across the parking when suddenly this Volvo stops in front of me kind blocking my way, at first I thought the guy was just asking for directions. But no, instead this Asian middle-aged man was asking me if 'I leave trash at my house,' so okay, I could be willing to be apologetic about that, but than he goes on to add 'don't you feel that you disgraced our race.'

Now this I am seeing red, so I basically asked what makes him think we were part of the 'same race' and dropped the 'f-bomb.' Anyway, it was started to get really heated, so I just started to walk away from him, but do that I literally had to walk past his car. Suddenly, I hear his car roar for a moment it was almost like he was going to use his car to block my way. But no, he just decided to speed in the parking lot and yell 'bitch' at me. I yelled something back about his behavior.
As I walked away, I turn my head and notice that the guy parked his car and he seem to be walking toward my direction. Thankfully, it turned out he just went up to some woman.

Born This Way

So Lady Gaga released her single 'Born this Way' this day and it is apparently supposed to be the gay anthem. According to her, it took her all of ten freaking minutes to write it.

That I think is great, it seems that generations of oppression, abuse, and under representation, can be some up with ten minutes of thought and writing. Seriously, how could someone who has been such a staunch defender of gay rights, come out and say something so offensive as that it take less than a fifth of a hour to come up with the anthem for minorities that have been kicked in the face so many years. And when it comes out...it is just a dance music with Madonna overtones.

WTF?! I should be grateful to be stereotype as some bar-hopping fem bot, Seriously, Christina Aguilera's 'Beautiful' or 'Fighter' is how I want my anthem to song. Someone that invokes emotion to tall up for myself and hold my head up. Not to freak dance in some bar, holding a fruitie drink.

As a bi-flexible womanist grad student, this is not what relates to me. I will dance to it, but don't claim this is my anthem.

FYI: Orient is offensive, it is the same as calling blacks 'Negros.'

Why do we hate Lance Bass?

Okay, Lance Bass came-out as gay in the middle of the 2000s. While he has not exactly been shooting into the starlights like Justin Timberlake, Lance has not exactly been useless.

I am tired of hearing complaints that if he only came out when he was in *Nsync than he could have done something or why did he wait until the group broke up to speak up or my favorite he is now a "Professional Gay" and talentless hack. First off, we have all heard him sing on Dancing with the Stars and Hairspray so he can at least sing. Okay, he is not really in the music business, but he still does some voice acting here and there. And we have to admit he has donated a lot of time and money to charity. (Yeah, so do other celebs, but we don't exactly seem to hate them on the level we hate him.) So in my book, he is still a decent guy. Yeah, he could do more, but you can say that about anyone.

I am really sick of the gay community calling him a embarrassment, no Mary Cheney is what you should call a embarrassment she waited 2 years after the almost Amendment for illegalizing same-sex marriage to speak out against it, her father was the VP of the US yet she never tried to get any promotion for same-sex causes during that time. And let's face it, Raymond Burr, TV's most famous attorney waited until he died to come out. Clay Aiken, American's true first gay idol five years after he won Idol and after the birth of his child. And Chely Wright only came out as lesbian at the age of 39 this year. Yet we still complain that Bass waited too long before revealing his orientation and he only did it after the media got too much. Well, the media hounded Wright yet she waited over a decade.

Also, quit calling him hideous, he is not. Granted he looked better before his nose job, but he actually photos quite well. And looks very dramatic in goth clothing.

So, please just quit complaining about him. Yes, he said some dumb things and done some odd things, but he also done good stuff and overall okay guy for a celebrity. Stop treating him like he is the worse thing to come on the scene since heroin.

Helping means not being a bitch to us

Okay, on Mondays I work at as a unpaid intern at a Restraining Order Help Center.

So, today a woman pushing a stroller comes in, asking for a restraining order. I asked her the most basic question, "what is your relationship to that person?" I only asked because here in CA there is no universal restraining order, it's actually based on how you know this person. And she just bit my and my co-worker's head off, saying that she didn't want to tell us and than saying how about I just paid you for all the forms. Than she went off saying that just because she wanted privacy that we were denying her help. So, I tried to explain the types of restraining orders, we have at the center and she just kept cutting me off saying all she wanted to know was how many there were.

We (both me and my co-worker) kept explaining that we wanted to make sure that things got off on the right start which means getting the right forms and that often times people end up confused (thus doing the wrong forms and than the judge gets annoyed throws the case out. And those people end up having to start over). But she didn't hear that apparently, all she knew was that we weren't doing what she said, even though she often to pay (which was offensive as hell, as she was implying that weren't doing our jobs because of the money. We are doing our jobs, its not about the money. It's about you getting the right help). My co-worker even said that if she didn't feel comfortable telling us aloud who it is that she could just

It got to the point, my co-worker had to go find the boss and ask what should she do. While my co-worker did that, I ended up having to help the people behind this woman since a line had formed. All of the people in line had no problem answering the question.

My co-worker came back with forms explaining how to find the restraining orders online. She refused to talk to my co-worker, went so far as to ignore her, than this woman actually started writing her complaint about us right in front of us.

Finally, my supervisor came in and went through the same arguments that we did. In the end, we did give her all the forms cause worn us down. But it just made no sense that she combat us like that and acted as if were abusing her.

My supervisor actually thought this woman must be a paralegal at one of the law offices near us who came in just to take our forms.

Life is bringing me down

I am turning 23 on Aug. 12th, but still live with my parents and elderly grandma(my father is both verbally and at times physically abusive to my mother and I. He has been like this my entire life), right now having a hard time finding a job (I graduated in May 2009, so far the only semi-permanent job I have found is babysitting two toddlers for 2 days of the week), and since my grad program is online have very little chance to spent outside of the home.

According to most job postings for the field of my choice, they require at least 2 years of experience and so far can't find a job in my chosen field, instead I end up doing a lot of volunteer work. Causing my dad to bitch at me, tell me I am useless and will never amount to anything, that I am lucky to be living with them and not have to pay rent (even though I work as one grandma's caregiver and I always make sure to cash those checks directly into my parent's bank account).

I feel isolated and wonder what is up with my life. Back in undergrad, I was one of the top of my class, most respected in my internship, and felt like my life was going places. Now I feel like I am in limbo.

Activism

Activism...I am someone who believes that a person should stand up and fight for what they believe in. However, what the hell is wrong with you sometimes?

Okay, just the other day I was talking to a Greenpeace member who spoke passionately about saving the whales, he than asked me to add my name to the membership list for Greenpeace members against whale hunting bill. He told me there was a fee, in which case I said I would sign the petition for ending of hunting whales but I want to know more about the human rights issues. He told me that Greenpeace was all about human rights, but when I asked him about human trafficking he was all 'well, there are laws and Greenpeace ain't about policing.' I was like, 'what, didn't u just ask me to police Japan for hunting whales?'

A couple weeks back, I was on campus when I noticed people protesting the budget crisis on campus. One of the signs said 'Faculty can work at Subway.' What the Fuck?! Faculties are what make up school. Why are even coming to school if you aren't here to learn? Is your understanding of the value of education so low that you think that the professors aren't worth anyway. Come on, why are u blaming the faculty. Students may be paying higher tuition but the professors are getting paid cuts. You shouldn't be protesting on campus, you should be at the Capital bitching to our government or the chancellor for breaking the promise not to cut budget for education.

It pisses me off, how you say that you believe in something and want to fight for it, but instead of getting people united you just piss people off to your cause.

Complaining about America?
Okay, why is it everytime someone has something bad to say about America, there is always someone saying 'shut up you have no right to complain?'

America is suppose to be superfree, we are all patriotic, etc....and apparently when you say something about America's less sterling traits you are a Judas.

I was talking to a new friend of mine, she lives in Florida and used to be a Republican. She told me once she was talking to this lesbian who was bitchin' about how being gay in America is tough, my friend basically told her, 'quit bitchin, you are lucky to be in America, if you were anywhere else you would be stoned to death by now.'

I was like, 'huh?' A gay person should be grateful not to be outright murdered in their own homeland? Do we tell black men that they should be grateful, not to be lynched for staring at a white woman? Please don't go there.

Than another time, she lets out a snort about Obama's new policies. I was thinking 'hypocrite much?' Why is it okay for you to complain about Obama, but not a lesbian complaining about the way she is treated?

America is suppose to be a free country. And why shouldn't people be allowed to exercise their right to free speech. America is okay, but we want it to be better. So, everyone stop jumping down each other's throats when someone has something to say about America that you don't like. If no one ever says anything but less things about America, how will improve on the thing that need to be improved?

whiny lawyer boy

I am still a MLIS student, right now I am working a internship at a Restraining Order Help Center. Basically we help people who cannot afford attorneys get legal help getting restraining orders as well as fighting them.

Anyway, this mofo lawyer came up to my window today, telling me he didn't know if he been doing the right legal form for answer of restraining order (WTF? People pay you $300 a hour for you to not know what you are doing?!) So, anyway I found the form he wanted, told him when it was last updated. Than he asked if he could get one to take with him...first of all, the ROHC is funded by the local courts so we got a shoestring budget, second of all, I am suppose to be helping people that CANNOT afford attorneys, not attorneys that come in wearing expensive suits but too lazy to go to the law library to do some simple research.

So, I reluctantly gave him the form, than he starts giving me attitude because I hesitated to give it to him. (Excuse me, but you could have gotten it online if you weren't so lazy that you had to bug me rather than just google it. My job is to help those that have to try and struggle to get a restraining on their own.)

Know this isn't about working at the library, but this prissy attorney should have gone to the law library instead of the ROHC.

I could have send you away if I wanted but didn't.

Bashing Miley Cyrus bashers

Okay, let me start off by saying I am not trying to say Miley Cyrus is the end all be all. Instead this is my rant against all those who keep bashing her, OMG cause out of all the world's problem she is the worst, right? Never mind, that a woman does not a right to her own body, mass starvation, etc... FU This one person on Gaia said it nicely, "She didn't kill your family, so why are hatin.'"

Yeah, basically what the hell is wrong with you people. I am finding more threads about hatin' Miley than hatin' Osama Bin Laden. Come on, a crazy zealot terrorist who kills thousands of people gets less hate than a teen bopper pop star?! WHAT THE FUCK?!

Granted I agree with people when they say she is no role model. You are right, she isn't; she didn't cure cancer, she didn't discover a way for world peace, etc...Miley is just a successful pop star/actress. She isn't suppose to be a role model instead her job is a entertainer, hench she is just suppose to be entertaining. So instead of listing all the reasons why Miley ain't a role model, why don't you give us a actual role model to look up to. All you teach is hate when you just put her down like that. Feminism has been struggling for years to teach the world that calling a girl a 'cunt, ho, whore, bitch..." is uncalled and demeaning, but than suddenly all these so call 'conscience raising' groups are just sitting back and letting everything use every four-letter word to describe her. WHAT ARE YOU TRYING to teach people here?

SINCE WHEN IS IT OKAY TO SAY TREATING A WOMAN LIKE SHIT IS WRONG, UNLESS IT IS A POP PRINCESS?!

Now back to Miley hating, come on...calling her 'ugly, whore, no-talent,' is bad enough but when you harass her ten-year old sister to get at Miley than you are plain hateful. This is a little girl you are bitching and ragging on, please let's fuck with a little kid now and make her a future Mary-Kate Olsen with eating disorders and drug problems.

Quit being jealous of her. Yes, I would love to be as multi-millionaire before I turn 18 too, but she worked hard her ass off and deserves respect for that. She is attractive and has talent. She writes her own songs for most part (granted they aren't that great but got to give her props for writing a song on Global Warming. Who can really write a good Global Warming song?) So she wear revealing clothes, so what? So do most teenage girl, she is dressing her age just happens her age means showing lots of skin. Even if Miley starts dressing like a frickin' nun, let's face it you would trash her anyway.

If you don't like her don't listen her.

So she ain't perfect, *gasp* she is human OMG!!!
