It has been some time since the last one.

This is a significant release, largely due to the effort involved in supporting the 5-inch variant of the official ‘Display 2’. While the initial support was straightforward, a major issue was encountered with its implementation specifically on the Raspberry Pi 3.

The migration to a 64-bit operating system for the Pi 3 family, a significant undertaking, was necessitated by issues encountered while implementing the 5-inch display. Previously, RoPieee ran in 32-bit mode on the Pi 3, while Pi 4 and 5 were already 64-bit. This upgrade proved beneficial, as it not only resolved the display issues, allowing us to now support the 5-inch display across all Pi variants, but also resulted in performance gains for the Pi 3.

In addition to the new ‘Display 2’ support, this release includes updated components and resolved bugs.

The most prominent feature is visible on RoPieee’s web interface, which now offers multi-language support.
Thanks to RoPieee’s defensive measures against file system issues, which were developed in response to MMC failures, the problem was not critical. A simple reboot restored normal operation. Ultimately, we decided the issue wasn’t critical enough to delay the release.

The problem resurfaced after the 2025.08 release, a predictable yet extremely frustrating occurrence 🙂 Further debugging resulted in a solution, so this RoPieee patch release is mainly about fixing this issue. And while at it, I fixed a few other bugs as well.

This release was slightly delayed due to a lack of critical issues in the previous stable version. It’s a relatively “boring” release, focusing solely on widespread improvements rather than introducing new features.

Perhaps the most significant development isn’t solely within the RoPieee software; it’s also external. I anticipate that the new website and comprehensive GitHub project page will simplify RoPieee’s adoption for individuals outside the Roon ecosystem.

I’m happy to announce the immediate availability of 2025.06!

This release was supposed to be rather small, but it turned out ‘bigger’ than expected

Most exciting part, at least for me, is the support for USB HID devices. This makes it possible to use ‘fancy’ knobs as remote controllers, but it also works for USB DAC’s that suppor the USB HID protocol.
Combined with the new ‘follow display’ option this makes for a cool release!

The support for 2 USB DAC’s when using services other than Roon is also noteworthy.
It solves some issues with specific devices like the Holo Red, but it’s also handy when using more than 1 USB DAC.

The rest is the usual ‘stuff all over the place’.
