How Roc Camera Works
Roc Camera captures photos on device, generates cryptographic proof artifacts locally, and stores photo and proof files on the device by default. The app communicates with a local service at 127.0.0.1 (localhost) for camera, proof, Wi-Fi, upload queue, and system status functions.
Information We Collect
Depending on the features you use, we may collect:
- Device and service identifiers, including machine IDs, device public keys, blockchain addresses, hostnames, software version/build information, and local device IDs used for observability.
- Content data, including photos, proof.json/proof_metadata.json files, and related cryptographic metadata (for example, hashes, signatures, timestamps, and circuit version data).
- Network setup data, including scanned Wi-Fi SSIDs/BSSIDs, Wi-Fi status, and connection state. Wi-Fi passwords you submit are used to request connection through the device's OS network manager.
- Operational and analytics data, including event logs, diagnostics, and error data. Analytics and logs may be stored locally first and uploaded only when a backend upload endpoint is configured.
- Registration data for optional cloud features, such as machine name, address, and verification key when registering with Explorer.
How We Use Information
- Operate camera capture, proof generation, storage, sync, and system updates.
- Register devices and process optional uploads to Explorer services.
- Monitor reliability, debug errors, and improve product performance and safety.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
How We Share Information
We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information:
- With infrastructure and service providers that help us run uploads, hosting, logging, support, and security.
- With Explorer-related services when you enable or use cloud upload and registration features.
- For legal compliance, fraud prevention, or protection of rights and safety.
- In connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, or asset sale.
Data Retention
- Photos and proof files are retained on device until deleted by you, by app action, or by system maintenance.
- Sync-status records are stored locally to track upload/attestation state for moments.
- Analytics/log batch files are generally cleaned up locally after successful upload and files older than approximately 30 days may be removed.
- Third-party service retention (such as Explorer infrastructure) is governed by those service operators.
Your Choices and Controls
- You can disable analytics in app settings.
- You can delete local moments from the device.
- You can manage whether to use optional upload/registration functionality where exposed.
- You can request privacy assistance at [email protected].
Security
We use technical and organizational safeguards, including local key storage mechanisms for device signing keys where available. No security measure is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
The Services are not intended for individuals under 18 years old, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18.
International Data Transfers
We and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries that may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Services after an update means the updated Policy applies.
