THEY
after a lost poem by Diogenes
THEY
after Diogenes?
They’re all the same, you say?
Time and again I hear “they’re all
the same, they’re all alike,
corrupt, effete, elite, all in it
for themselves.” You’re right!
They are! But do you mean
you’re not like them? You’re not
the same? Would you claim
you’re better? Or just different
somehow? Or possibly
you think they’re
taking your share?
But how? Because
they’re smarter, faster, cleverer,
or started before the gun?
In that case, shouldn’t you run
a little harder to catch up?
Or could you throw the first stone?
Seems you were right
from the start:
they’re all the same
as us. We’re
all the same.
