vegetarian thought, partially cranky
Preliminary rant:
I am an omnivore.
I am such after much thought, reflection, and contemplation of my choices, and after having been vegetarian -- both pure and ovo-lacto -- at times in my adult life. Vegans and vegetarians who would like to lecture me on how I should become enlightened, and who feel a need to vocalize their ethical superiority, are cordially invited to 1) stop reading my journal; 2) stop interacting with me; and 3) stuff large radishes up their asses. The assumption that people who choose not to be vegetarian or vegan do so out of stupidity, willful blindness or ignorance, or because we're heartless beings pisses me off beyond belief.
Fortunately, most of the vegans and vegetarians I know are reasonable beings, with whom I am reasonable in turn. I have no problem with not eating flesh around them, and know some very good vegetarian restaurants where I will gladly go.
*end rant; return soapbox to its normal place*
That said:
I want a good vegan/vegetarian recipe. Soup, stew, chili, something that can be simmered for hours without losing flavor, something that has good texture(s), and -- because this is my favorite eating container -- something that will go nicely in a Japanese bowl with bluegreen glaze on the interior.
One reason for this is that as fall approaches, that's the sort of thing I like to cook. Another is that we're thinking of having friends over again, and I'd like to have a heated dish to go with Soren's chili; it seems unfair to have luscious bowls of freshly made chili for some folks, and only having things like hummus and babaganoush for others. Yes, I should cook more and do my own research, but I figure I have all of you as reference sources, and I know you guys can cook.
Thanks in advance!
