Senior Process Safety Engineer

Do you want to work on the end-to-end design of one the most innovative process systems on Earth, where you deploy 1 system a week, not 1 system a decade like most incumbents?

Rivan Industries is a synthetic fuel company decarbonising heavy industry. We’re making synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels, sustaining life on earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground. Here’s our entire business plan.

There is no boilerplate engineering in this system, only the most innovative, problem solving engineers can thrive on this challenge. We practice our culture, working in small teams, expecting complete ownership and ground up reasoning from our engineers, whilst executing at speed.

We operate with minimal process and bureaucracy, only what is essential to ensure our systems are safe, legally compliant, and deployed on time, everything else is up to you.

The role: Own the holistic implementation of process safety across our system

The role encompasses the full development cycle, across our whole system, but can be tailored to the specialist skillset of the applicant. We need you to:

  • Guide process safety through intelligent inherently safe system architecture selection
  • Ideate novel designs to eliminate or mitigate existing failure modes
  • Own critical process safety design aspects, such as relief design and DSEAR compliance
  • Lead our system through critical safety reviews, such as HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA and SIF specification

Essential skills:

  • 5+ years professional experience
  • Bachelor’s or Masters in chemical engineering or related field
  • Experience designing, building and operating process plants
  • Experience leading full lifecycle process safety

You should be strong across all traditional process engineering activities:

  • Ideating novel architectures and system integrations with the Rivan mindset
  • Aspen modelling of process units
  • Data analysis and system wide process optimisation
  • Detailed process calculations and design
  • Defining control architectures
  • Component specification and procurement
  • Defining and executing build, deployment, commissioning and operation of our systems

Specifics:

  • £70-100k Salary depending on experience
  • Significant share options as part of the early team
  • In-person work at our HQ in Bermondsey, South London – flexibility considered based on personal circumstances
  • Extensive relocation support, including £6000 per year extra to live close to our HQ
  • Health insurance
  • Unlimited time-off

We encourage exceptional applicants from all backgrounds to apply for this role, even if they do not meet all the requirements listed.
