SGA

Quickly — over at Amazon Prime Video one of the channels is showing a Stargate Atlantis marathon.

Click on Live TV at the top of the page, scroll past the sports, and you will find SGA. I just finished watching Tao of Rodney. Now it's The Game, next is The Ark. I don't know if that's in order or not.

It seems to go by fast. I think last night or maybe one night before, I watched SG-1. It was a spaceship race contest episode.

Even though I have a lot of SGA on dvds, it's fun to watch with commercials. You also can't pause.

1:57 PST

David Hewlett made/programmed (?) an A.I. of Dr. Rodney McKay that you can talk to and ask questions.

I had fun for awhile, but ymmv.

It's at Character.AI
https://beta.character.ai/?message=This%20URL%20can%20be%20used%20only%20once&success=false

I always wonder if the links I post take you to my account.
Rodney Action Figure with a Lemon

While browsing on eBay I saw this Rodney figure with unknown (to me) accessories. He's got John's War and Peace, and a lemon (which is described as 'weaponized') along with his regular gear. I've followed McKay action figure listings for the past couple of years (yes, I know that's odd) and I've never seen these little items.

If you bid, DO NOT hint to anyone that these items may be rare. Maybe they're common and I've just never seen them.

I hope someone here gets them. There's a story begging to be told.

This is my first post at Dreamwidth. I don't really know how to post and size photos. Sorry if it's too big.

https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/f9AAAOSwOnJbsBw7/s-l1600.jpg

I took my nine year old granddaughter to see Wonder Woman.

She's very athletic and loves gymnastics, so I think it was fun for her to see all those Amazons jumping and twisting. She also likes horses (although not as much as unicorns and pegasus' and allicorns).

I'm very pleased that we were able to share the movie.

This afternoon I'm going to be joining thousands of people protesting Trump's inauguration.

My plan is to go to the demonstration, but leave before the riot. (I have to kid-sit tonight.)

Last night my nine-year old granddaughter said to me, "tomorrow America is over." I guess she's picking up the gist of the political atmosphere here in Portland.

I'm reading 1Q84 (free online).

This line made me lol, and I felt I should record and share it. Two new friends, women, have had dinner together and are (so far) spending the night platonically. They are talking about their bodies --

“No, I like your breasts. They’re very elegantly shaped, and they give this intellectual impression.”

and now, back to the book.

My sister recently gave a talk about fabric decoys in WWII and continuing onto recent developments such as this:

... in Japan a fantastic stealth cape was developed at
a university. The cape is a fabric composed of photosensitive
glass beads. Somehow it connects to a computer and projects
on the front of the cape, the image from the back of the cape.
It looks like Harry Potter's invisibility cloak. Very cool.

Agent Carter Style

I enjoyed this article about 1940's dressing. It has some interesting facts about the whats and whys of fashion -- fabric shortages in WWII were reflected by men's pants cuffs and pocket flaps disappearing -- along with some specific analysis of Agent-Carter-style itself, and how it might play out in the future. There are a couple nice pics too.

A guide to the amazing 1940s fashion in 'Agent Carter' (from a Daily Dot article)

http://bit.ly/1vQMXOE

SGA re-watch

Stargate writer/producer Joe Mallozzi is doing an SGA re-watch at his blog.

I'm going to try hard to participate.
A year or two ago he posted a bit of commentary on each episode. I hope one of his more dedicated blog readers will re-post that as we go along.

http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/2014/01/28/january-xx-2014-stargate-universe-2-5-the-japanese-girlfriend-edition-join-our-stargate-atlantis-rewatch/#comment-172388

From his blog:

NEXT UP: Stargate Atlantis! Who wants to take part in the official re-watch?!

We’ll kick things off, viewing an episode a day starting Friday, January 31st with the series premiere: Rising I. And we’ll continue through the show’s full five season run – provided Akemi remains onboard! Who’s in?!

====================
The reference to Akemi, and the Japanese girlfriend thing, is because she has only recently been willing to watch any of the Stargate series, despite knowing Joe for several years. So, Akemi is really the impetus for the watch-a-long.

Texas anti-abortion bill is dead!

Wow. I really didn't expect this. Kudos to Sen. Wendy Davis, Texas dems, and the protesters who refused to give up.

Protesters caused so much noise, commotion, and chaos that Lt. Gov Dewhurst said he was prevented from signing the anti-abortion bill before the midnight deadline passed, effectively killing it.

In a nutshell -- "If signed into law, the measures would have closed almost every abortion clinic in Texas, a state 773 miles wide and 790 miles long with 26 million people. A woman living along the Mexico border or in West Texas would have to drive hundreds of miles to obtain an abortion if the law passed. The law's provision that abortions be performed at surgical centers means only five of Texas' 42 abortion clinics are currently designated to remain in operation."

http://news.yahoo.com/texas-abortion-bill-falls-challenge-080130212.html

It includes the old Monty Python cast, in a movie about aliens and magic.

http://www.tor.com/blogs/2012/11/benedict-cumberbatch-to-star-in-monty-python-manned-film?et_cid=29826268&et_rid=549555410&linkid=with+aliens+and+Benedict+Cumberbatch

Joe Mallozzi live chat

Joe Mallozzi, former SGA and SG-1 writer and showrunner, will be doing a live blog chat tonight, Wednesday, August 15, 9pm Eastern time, 6pm Pacific.

This is the first time Joe has done a live chat. I'm not sure how it's going to work, but last I heard he's going to be spending at least an hour fielding questions. The blog regulars could be asking about dogs, food, his girlfriend, future projects, as well as Stargate related subjects. (He is currently at mid-season 2 in his regular SGA memory lane entries.)

I'll be there as rissreader. Here's a link to Tuesday's blog, just click to advance to the next day. Click on the date and title on the right-side under the dog (Maximus) photo.
edit: Hmm. Maybe I'm not positive about where to click, but this address will give you a start.

http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/2012/08/14/august-14-2012-damnit-sushi-food-trucks-days-of-stargate-atlantis-past/

Rodney McKay is made of monkeys, papers, and mistrusting. With a dash of gambling.

http://en.shindanmaker.com/219278

If anyone else gets a different one for McKay, I'd love to hear it.

Joe Mallozzi, former producer and writer for Stargate, has just started blogging a bit of his personal reminiscences, episode by episode, of the Atlantis series.

The link below goes to an entry about casting the major characters. It is followed the next day by thoughts about Rising.

Mallozzi blogs everyday, so if you're only interested in the Atlantis memory lane trip you probably won't have to slog thorough too much other stuff.

He did a similar review of the SG-1 years that I found enjoyable.

http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/2012/06/06/june-6-2012-days-of-stargate-past-atlantis/

Avengers = Awesome

A theater a half-block from my apartment was having a midnight Avengers opening and I decided at the last minute to go (which is not like me at all). It was gorgeous. It took me back to the silver age of Marvel comics.

I wish they had given a few more minutes to Natasha to explain her stings -- she fights so well in the final battle that it would be hard to understand without knowing she has special weapons. Her physicality is awesome though.

Battle scenes are usually not my favorite parts, but this finale was great to show how well they work together and separately. They are very strongly a team of individuals. It works great in movie-verse. I didn't enjoy it so much as a comics reader in the 1970's, although I sort of want to revisit it now.

I had skipped the last Hulk movie because he was never a character I followed closely, but now I want to see it because this Bruce Banner is very appealing. *pets*

That's all. Now I have to dig in my comics boxes.

Make sure you stay all the way through the credits to see the final scene.
