Oh shit! I haven't updated in a month! :X I'm always looking at my friends' list so somehow that translates to "you don't need to do updates!" in my head. Oops.

I've been unemployed for a while. My days were mostly spent looking for jobs, spending time with my baby girl Madi and -oddly- spending a fuckload of time at the post office. I have sold a lot of books via Amazon. Amazon has a strict policy of "ship your order in two business days or we'll make your life miserable". Ugh.

Fridays I spend some time with Libby, since that is her day off. Lately we've been looking for shoes for our pole class. Actual hooker shoes are fucking expensive. In terms of class, we're having fun. There's a routine to learn and the other girls are really nice. Some of the music choices are nothing I'd be interested in outside of class. One song that's in rotation for the routine is "Change" by Deftones, which is cool.

On August 10th, Libby and I took off for Ocean City for a beach trip. I can't go long without going to the beach now. It's a little pathetic; I start missing the sound of the waves. The trip was pretty easy. Or would have been if I hadn't listened to my car's GPS. The inboard GPS is an epic piece of shit. So there was a bit of a detour on Rt 404. But we got there and went to the beach for each of the three days we were there.

The first night, Libby managed to talk me into riding the Looping Star, which is a tiny coaster with a loop. I was pertrified and couldn't open my eyes. However my most regretted decision was when I went on the ferris wheel. For some reason, I thought it would be better than the coaster since it was slow. I did not take into account that the ferris wheel was twice as tall as the coaster. NOT GOOD. We went on a bunch of other carnival type rides, which was fun. But NO FERRIS WHEELS EVER AGAIN EVER.

Next day: epic sunburn! 80% of me got crisped. Painful but since I have to wear a spaghetti strap dress in October, I took my chances with the sun. There was Phillip's buffet where I sliced my thumb open trying to eat crab legs. Ugh. I was a walking disaster that day. I tried to stay up late, but had to tap out around 9pm. Libby stayed up to play DDR (no big surprise; though I did play along with her a lot during the trip).

The last day, we went to the beach one last time (yes, despite the sunburn) and then to Ripley's and other parts of the boardwalk. The only treat I really wanted at OC was some donuts from the Fractured Prune, but the fucking place was closed when we got there! By that point I couldn't move too well with the sunburn. The only cure? SONIC. It was the type of pain that only cheese covered tots could ease.

Other than that, I've been stalking Borders as it has been going out of business. And working on Paul's bday presents/card. He really enjoyed it along with the Shilla bakery cake and Bon Chon chicken I got for his bday party. After that party was Jen's bridal shower. Which was a fun, yet vaguely awkward family member event. Good times.

I'm officially back to work as a casual employee for my previous company. Woo! It's for a 3 to 4 month contract, which is cool. I'll be doing some things that are a little different from the normal graphic design work I was doing before. Good resume fodder.

Wow, this entry is long. I hear my mom apologizing to my dog, so I'm going to see what kind of damage my mom has done. :P

Oof. I remember when I was writing on LJ almost everyday. And by that, I mean posting stupid Internet quizzes. "What IS My True Astrological Sign?" Ugh.

There's not a whole lot to chronicle in my life because I don't have much of one. :P I've been applying to AT LEAST 2 jobs a week to qualify to unemployment. Making my necessary payments. Generally trying to spend little money as possible. Though that last part can be hard; I have a habit of buying nothing aside from necessities for about a month or two then going on mad shopping sprees. Meaning that I buy a lot of candy and the occasional VS tshirt. I'm an animal!

Lately, though, I've been trying my hand at custom My Little Pony making. I bought some "Decorate Your Own" MLPs to work with. Two are intended as gifts, so there is some incentive to finish them. One is a boy. So I've had to use my brain box to make the MLP look masculine.

The yellow-ish part is Apoxie clay. They won't be white in the final product. The face has been filled in a little to look more masculine. There is feathering near the hooves for a Clydesdale effect. Does that look boy-ish enough? For an MLP, anyway? :P

There are two Stabbing Westward videos in there, which made me realize that I've NEVER seen one for SW. By the time I had access to MTV, SW was no longer "relevant" and I never thought to look until now. I will say, however, that the "Save Yourself" video reminds me of NIN's "Closer". Same with "So Far Away"; the "angry" crowd rushing the band as they play is very much like NIN's "Happiness in Slavery".

Now I remember how much I loved SW. And Chris Hall is pretty hot (especially sans the nose ring, since yuck).

And the crazy guy in the Shame video (Clint Curtis) is hot. NGL.

I'm glad I choose Chibimoon as my test/guinea kit. :P The primer I used made a lot of air bubbles, especially on the back. I bought Mr Surface primer, so I hope that works better for the next kit.

The collar and gaunlet color is FINALLY accurate, but I'm not sure about the rest of the pink. :P The skintone is from a crappy $1.25 bottle of acrylic, hence the splotching.

I'd use the airbrush to get a smooth application of color, but the size of the figure requires a LOT of masking.

Meh.

1. Eggnog or hot chocolate?
Probably hot chocolate, but I'm not in the habit in indulging in seasonal drinks.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just set them under the tree?
Wrapped. I haven't been to any homes that didn't have presents wrapped, actually.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or all white lights?
I like uniform colored lights, but multi-color lights have looked good in certain setups!

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Nope.

5. When do you put up your decorations?
At my parents, we do the "official" decorating day on St Nikolaus Tag (December 6th).

Our holiday stuff was mostly based around our St Nik candy, so MARZIPAN.

Hanging out with the family, mostly. No one Christmas really stood out in my mind.

I honestly don't remember. I do remember waiting outside for my parents to take us to see the lighted houses in the neighborhood and hearing them whispering with my grandparents in the garage about who gets what wrapped gift. That definitely confirmed my suspicions.

Now that my sister and I are older, we usually do our present exchange on Christmas Eve. As kids, we sometimes got to open a gift from the other sister.

I don't have my own "real" tree, so we decorate my parents tree. It's a big to-do. :P

It varies from year to year if my family does a "big dinner". I alternate dinner at Paul's and my parents each year any way.

We each dole out a gift to the people present and everyone unwraps at the same time/show and tell/etc.

26. Do your pets share in the festivities?
Madi was with us for her first Christmas last year. Mom got her a dog DNA kit to confirm her breed (Yorkie, Poodle, and a tiny bit of Italian Greyhound). This year, I got her a tiny stocking with a new dog collar in it. Oliver the roommate-pup is getting a present too. :)

Granted, it took three months because I hadn't used the program necessary for it before and the other person I worked with hadn't worked on the project before either. But I got some major attitude from that particular group. And they tried to play these little "I didn't do anything wrong, so it must be your fault!" games. No, ma'am. Don't try that with me.

Then this morning, one of the two wearable jeans I owe tore near a belt loop. This particular pair developed a "mystery hole" in the crotch area very soon after I got them. NOT PLEASED. This is only a problem because jean shopping is a pain in the ass.

Urgh. Lately, I've been having a huge issue with my medicine. If I miss a day, I go into Insta-Withdrawal! Now, I've gone through unintentional AND tapering with this medicine. I know what it feels like. It's pretty rotten; dizzy spells, lethargy, headaches, aches. So the next time I go to the doctor, I have to ask for an alternative to this medicine.

I keep dreaming about a boardwalk. And the beach, of course. I desperately want to be at a beach right now! Cold weather never bothered me and I can only tolerate warm weather if I'm near the ocean.

The Walking Dead is about 3 episodes in! It's . . . okay. I'm not sure how much they will have to deviate from the original story because of how the story's version of society deteriorates. I can say for sure that my favorite so far is GLENN!

I haven't been doing a very good job at blogging recently. I've been living more like a ghost than anything. Paul has me working on learning WordPress. So far, I've made a blog for all the R2D2 merchandise around the web. People love to send me Artoo links, so this is my way of keeping track of them. The Figures Are IIIIIIN

My figures came in. Right now I'm working on Chibimoon, since I'm not too concerned if I screw her up. :P

Last weekend, I went to Philly. We visited the Mutter Museum, a Natural Science Museum, Eastern State Pen and then went to Doylestown to the Mercer Museum. The only place I took pictures was at ESP (I would have at Mutter, but they didn't allow photography). Here are most of the photos:

I finally got rid of this shit project at work, so I really want to decompress. If only I could stay home and work on my modelssssssssssssssss.

I do have a closet Sailor Moon love. There are a ton of SM merch that I covet, but I've always wanted nice figures to represent all of the Senshi. These model kits aren't exactly the cutest, but the Inners and Outers are all a part of the set. There might be an SD set for the Starlights, but they seem to be way more rare. Oh well.

I'll post pictures of my progress with these model kits. :) I've never done model kits before, so we'll see how it goes.

Madi's last day of Dog Obedience I is today. Which is a good thing, because the only thing she doesn't really know is heel. And she'll never learn it when other classmates bring their dogs late and ruin her concentration. Guh.

On to D*C!

I should preface with this: I haven't been to D*C since 2006! That was news to me; I had to look through my old convention badges to remember. The four year gap gave D*C, the host hotels and attendees a looooong time to change. So this year was a new con experience for me. Libby came with me this go-round, since she has never gone to a D*C ever.

Thursday
Mom and Madi dropped Libby and me off at the airport. Even IAD was seriously different! It's no longer this aged airport. Arriving in Thursday was a good idea, since pre-reg was RIDICULOUS. Libby and I lucked out because of our last names, but it was a cluster f. The volunteer who checked us in was incredibly nice. It was nice to see someone who enjoyed helping out at a con and not screaming at people.

Libby and I toured the new skywalks with a help of an ATL native who was attending the con. Hurray for skywalks! Even though the weather in GA was tepid compared to this summer in VA. WTF.

After the short tour and a long (and slightly treacherous) walk to a CVS, Lib and I took advantage of the empty swimming pool. Occasionally we would look up and see a con-goer waving from a window. A few people came down to the pool, one of which was a MUCH OLDER gentleman who thought it appropriate to swim in white boxer shorts.

Friday
Addy had the unfortunate pre-reg experience, so Matt and I trekked to wait for her at the hotel. Note to fellow con goers: being an asshole in line doesn't make you cool.

I put on my Gizmonics dress in preparation for a few MST3K events. I attended two panels on Friday: Kevin Murphy Live! and the MST3K/Cinematic Titanic. Sadly, Kevin Murphy arrived late Friday so the first panel was canceled. So I puttered around the Dealer's Room and grabbed lunch. Libby and I ended up walking around a bunch and were stopped MANY times due to Lib's girly Fourth Doctor costume. It was quite popular!

I ended up waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in line for the MST3K/CT panel. The line was out and around the building so far that I thought I wouldn't get into the panel. Luckily, this line had pleasant people in it and who wanted to talk about MST3K. The room actually fit everyone in line, to my surprise. I stayed for the Q/A portion of the panel, but left when the movie started. At that time, I didn't think I was up for watching the movie AND waiting to ask for autographs at the end. Lib and I left and trekked from the Hyatt to the Marriott. Louis and Danny were there. Louis reminded me of an important event that night. So Danny and I were on high alert as we wandered through the crowds. Luckily we added Matt, Addy and the Roxbury boys to the group. I'm really glad we ran into Matt and Addy, because they got to see the big event:

I knew about this ever since Louis showed me the ring and it was HARD to keep quiet! Addy, Danny and I got video of the proposal from various angles. While the couple was being congratulated, Danny and Addy and Matt and I spent the waiting time texting all of our mutual friends about the engagement! It was ridiculous to the point that Danny had to take a picture documenting the event:

We hung around for a while after, but eventually my hotel roommates and I decided to go back to Hilton and pass the fuck out.

I had an epiphany the other night.

Sometimes when I dream (while I'm often in a body that isn't mine), I run around doing whacky acrobatics and fighting moves. I have at times been running around, jumping from rooftop to rooftop holding my dog Mädi.

So I figured out my fighting entrance!

Let me explain. The 2-D fighting game characters usually have a cool entrance when a round starts. The earth will open up, they come running in, leap from the sky . . . If I were coming into a battle, how would I show up?

I've always loved Nakoruru's entrance, since her hawk Mamehaha accompanies her. So when I come running into the screen, I'd be holding Mädi! Then I'd give her a kiss and let her jump to the ground behind me as I taunt my opponent.

This will get drawn in a storyboard. Maybe even put into pixels!

My Merlotte's costume for Dragon*Con is done yaaaaaaaaaaay. I just have to throw together my RE:Apocalypse Jill Valentine and that's it. I can't wait for a break OMGGGGG. I keep dreaming of being at a con and sleeping most of the way through it. This is a typical dream manifestation of my lamer anxieties.

This was Paul's Christmas present last year. I made it out of Crayola Model Magic with the intent to redo it in Sculpey, but the Sculpey was unbearable to deal with. The color was applied with my airbrush. The silver sputtered a LOT but made a good effect on the mask.

I'm going to try to do some airbrushing this week. Nothing very intricate, but I'm hoping it'll be easier than brushing on a big block of color. :P

So I learned in a round-about way that one of the people at the office speaks fluent Japanese. And when I was trying to think of a Japanese phrase, all I could think of was:

"Sprechen Sie Japanisch?"

Now I'm wondering what weeaboo-speak sounds like in Germany.
