What's behind Disney's billion-dollar stake in OpenAI?

$427: Platforms are rushing to cut licensing deals but is Disney’s OpenAI bet the moment copyright stops fighting GenAI and starts pricing it?

Disney just shocked the world with a watershed licensing deal with OpenAI which signals The Mouse House is strapping itself to the AI rocket ship.

Hollywood copyright expert Peter Csathy joins me for a quick analysis about what the deal means, and what it says about the future of IP and media growth.

The deal lets fans play with more than 200 Disney/Marvel characters inside OpenAI’s GenAI video platform Sora.

And Disney has taken a billion-dollar investment in the platform, flying in the face of many analysts’ view that it would sue.

Peter explains how Disney’s logic is brutally modern.

User-generated remixes becomes free distribution, that build the brand - and every prompt becomes a toll booth - a micro-licence. Think: Use Darth Vader for 50¢.

Peter also believes it’s a proof point for copyright - showing permission, price and ongoing compensation is the right foundational model for the future of AI.

It’s also a signal for publishers and content creators that a market is finally forming.

Hope you enjoy.
