sherry, secrets while the men
growled behind cigars
genteel of course suppers’ done
and single-malts meet their end*
*(Now I suspect the term Drawing Room actually had a silent “With” preceding that passage where well-brought-up ladies withdrew from the men after a dinner – supper to some – and the men hit the den or the cave as it presently may be known, to pass on the day’s events with smoke and fine whisky (or whiskey) depending on the origin of the splash of course. Now the gentler sex puffs cheroots and spits and cusses and them menfolks allow as how a little equality sure does seem to go a long ways. Neh?_
