fifty-year-old “tape”

played between these cludgy ears

confirmed ogden nash

authored “candy is dandy

but liquor is quicker” poem*

*(3 hours of fake snooze found the doggerel’s “blamesake” hiding halfway betwixt medulla oblongata and a theoretical shrapnel sliver which serves for memory by my admittedly feeble lights. In 1975 I was asked to identify the author in what passed for a college “brain bowl” contest. Instanter I blurted “Ogden Nash,” despite having no recollection of having read anything by that American humorist. But then, the “tape” was fresh and the Corpus Collosum-Medulla collective less tainted. Or, so I temporized. Now, if only I could locate the mailbox key I know I misplaced Saturday…
