So what happened that I lost my position working for another company that was renting me out from my primary employeer?

Well, here's the 411.

Work 2 said Work 1 owed them money for services. Work 1 said Work 2 owed them money for MY services, which hadn't been paid for since February. So yeah, Work 2's CFO got all pissy with Work 1's Pres, and basically said "Oh yeah, well, if you don't pay us all the money you owe us, we'll just not keep the IT Ferret around"... more or less.

So yeah... that's what happened.

And I still don't know what will happen to me, but pay cut and some more hours at Work 1 is probably coming. And we're talking a pretty decent paycut.

--Salen

Modem of Issue

My Cable modem decided to start dying good and massive yesterday. My Linksys modem was bought back when CompUSA was going out of business 4 years ago, and was purchased for the mighty sum of 35 bucks. So 4 years old, for 35 bucks? Not bad all things considered.

Luckily, barragezero had his old cable modem so I ended up going home to fix it, so we could get it activated instead of the replacement modem I got from Comcast. The replacement will go back to Comcast today.

Otherwise, nothing much else of interest has been going on here. Filling out a nice Homestead Exemption App for my house, since it should save me a good 600 to 1000 bucks a year on taxes. So yeah, free money I can put back into principle on my mortgage instead. Woot.

--Salen

Life's been interesting lately. My dishwasher wasn't working very well, and last week, it overflowed and made a huge mess on the kitchen floor. Last night, the repair guy came out from my Home Appliance Insurance place to fix it. It was a guy from Sears who's contracted out by the insurance, but he got it working, showed me a few things, told me about the evils of non-phosphate detergents, what I could do to make it better, stuff like that. Oh, and he suggested I replace the garbage disposal unit, since it's pretty rusty. I have a spare one from when my dad's kitchen got demo'd. Same model, just a lot newer.

But now I'm not sure if the heat is working in the house. I woke up and the house was only at 66, on heat, and set to be 70, but alas there wasn't more than luke warm air coming from the vents. *murfle*

Back when I got the house, the heat was the one thing the house reviewers said was REALLY good, but for some reason, I don't know if it's working now, or just not working well enough. And I'm not familiar with what to do now. I might try the Emergency Heat, see if that helps, but I'm pretty sure the T-stat said it had turned on the heat strips, this morning, and yet the air was still pretty luke at best.

Suggestions?

--Salen

PS Edit: Coworker says it might be the fact that it's a Heat Pump and that Heat Pumps suck in general, but I'm not 100% sure.

Getting the home set up for a roommate is interesting.

The food goes a bit faster now, but Snow likes to cook stuff up so it's not all bad. Otherwise, I've just been very busy and distracted. It doesn't help when I have a webcomic to work on. I haven't really felt creative lately either.

On the gaming front, I found a new furry miniature game called Brushfire which is 19th century combat with fluffy weasels and dogs and otters and stuff. Think Nepoleon as a mole. I went with the ones with the weasel musketeers, so I got a few figs of the weasels so I can paint them up as ferrets. The game is less expensive than Warhammer 40k so I should be good if I actually get into it. Plus the local game shop is demoing it next month so I might get my weasels on.

Not much else to mention. Doing laundry at my dad's. <lj:music>Real Tuesday Weld - Bathtime in Clerkenwell</lj:music>

So yeah, I try not to mention work, but frankly, it's starting to become a bit scary in how it's working lately. Or more appropriately, how it's falling apart at the financial strings. Or maybe it hit the iceburg of housing while sailing in the Architectanic.

Two more employees were 'let go' yesterday, the construction admin and a CAD guy. The only thing is they're not really "let go" since they're technically coming into work but at massively reduced hours. That's about 9 folks left, but I'm only there half the day as is, and there's bound to be another person let go at this rate next week.

So yeah, according to the 4th principal, we're looking at maybe being completely shut down by November 1st. I suppose I could try getting work with the office I'm getting rented out to, as a new permanent employee, but I have no clue how to broach that subject with EITHER employer.

I should check www.USAJobs.gov to see about getting a job with the Navy or Homeland Security. I know they have some IT/Computer-related jobs available. Still... I'm not worrying about it, but that doesn't mean I'm not actively trying to figure out what to do either.

And it seems everyone else I know is in bad shape as well, in some fashion or form. Silly me not wanting to trouble others with my issues.

Mostly I just hope this doesn't interfere with next year's Megaplex.

--Salen

So I got home from my Vero Beach "adventure" which ended when I got home and the Blazer wasn't ablaze from burning break fluid. And now I've got less than 2 work days left before I go on vacation to play Halo: Reach next week.

In the meantime, I've just been being bored, trying to stay awake, and otherwise keep myself from falling over. I've found out that I can't wear my drab bonnie hat on Salen very well. I can sort of hang it off of one ear but it looks silly. But I do have a set of goggles on him that do look pretty nice.

Also, I've been considering what I'd do if I ever got a second fursuit. I have plenty of ideas, and options, but I think I'd want to get a Packy fursuit. Packy's a military rabbit and... here, just go to this link and watch the first episode of Cat Shit One. Or maybe Botasky. But more likely Packy. It's just a random though. Oh, and just in case you're curious what gun Packy's using, it's an SR-47. It's like if an M4 and an AK-47 had a baby.

Anyways, gunna go make some early lunch...

--Salen

I really need to stop bringing work stress home with me. I know my meds are supposed to help me with that, but it doesn't help when one person's bad attitude decides to invade mine so much making the rest of my day utterly depressing.

Also, I really miss hanging out with my friends. I would have loved to have gone and hung out with crssafox on Friday to chat while talking about my fursuit, but her and Joe were off to Dragon-Con (and a good number of my friends who aren't at other cons this weekend). Getting to be a big goofy ferret would have been such a welcomed break from yesterday. Plus, I wanna let Carissa get some photos of Salen just so she can put up some nice proper ones on her website since the photos she originally took were when I picked Salen up on the way to Megaplex. Carissa seemed to think I was having a lot of fun when doing pictures last time. And a lot of it was just me getting to be a big stupid, goofy ferret, who loved shiny things. Like a BBQ grill.

And oh, Salen can do the Caramelldanse. <lj:music>The B-52's - Good Stuff</lj:music>

Today's been a bad day for me. I left home without taking my meds, so sinus pressure and lack of pills are making me feel meh. I forgot to make breakfast at work so I didn't eat anything till 11am, which only made my headache and meh-ness even worst. Work is full of stupidness with email problems and marketers pestering me to no end while I try to get real work done with setting up a PC for a coworker who's PC blew up. And the office manager kept harping on and on about "I should just do all the I.P. (she meant I.T.) work myself", while I'm trying to take care of these problems in the back.

I really hate days like this. Hopefully, I didn't forget anything else. I hope.

--Salen
