First post of 2026, and I'm doing something I've never really done publicly before: looking back at my 2025 goals. Not to show off. Not to pretend I nailed everything. Just to be honest about what happened. What I wanted: 🌏 Build a community online. Stop lurking, start creating. 🏋️‍♀️ Make fitness a lifestyle, not a phase. ⌛ Be more intentional with my time. 💵 Get my finances in order. What actually happened: 📈 I posted more than I ever have. LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon. I showed up, even when it felt awkward or uncertain. Some posts landed. Some didn't. But I kept going. 🏃‍♀️ I ran a half marathon... faster than I thought I could. That one felt like a real win. ⛰️ I climbed up to Mount Kinabalu basecamp. But I really struggled and came back feeling like a failure. ⏰ I wasn't as intentional with my time as I hoped. I still got pulled into the default mode of reacting instead of choosing. 💸 And financial discipline? I kept putting it off. The appointments I needed to make, the spreadsheets I needed to sit down with... they always got pushed to the bottom of the list. What I'm taking with me: The wins matter. They're evidence that I'm capable of more than I give myself credit for. But the gaps matter too. Not as failures, but as information and learning. As a reminder that some goals need different approaches, not just more willpower. And some things that look like achievements don't always feel that way. That's part of it too. This year, I'm trying to hold all of it at once. Celebrate what I did. Learn from what I didn't. And give myself a little grace in the process. What were your goals for 2025? I turned 40 last weekend and gave myself the best present: proof that I can do things I once thought were impossible. I ran my first half marathon. Finished in 3h06m (24m before the cut-off and faster than the best time my Runna app predicted). For many people, that’s slow. For me, it was everything. Here’s to surprising ourselves. Last weekend, for my 40th birthday, I gave myself a present I didn’t know I needed: proof that I can do things I once believed were impossible. I ran my first half marathon. Months ago, it sounded symbolic and fun. I’d never been sporty. I hated running. But I saw the 3.5-hour cut-off and thought, “Well… I could always walk it.” Spoiler: My walking pace would not have made that possible. Between getting sick mid-training and doubting my own sanity for signing up, I almost talked myself out of it. But I trained hard. I showed up. And I crossed the finish line in 3 hours and 6 minutes (24 minutes before the cut-off, and faster than even my Runna app predicted). For many people, that’s slow. For me, it was everything. A reminder that I am capable of more than I’ve spent years telling myself. Here’s to surprising ourselves. And to giving ourselves the gift of doing hard things... even the ones past-you thought were impossible.
