From Spooky Season to Something New
Thank you for making The Lake House launch unforgettable. Here’s what I’m conjuring up next…
It felt strange not writing to you all every week after the launch of The Lake House. I needed the break, and I am happy to be back.
Thank you all for your continued support and excitement over my latest novelette. I hope I was able to bring some spookiness to your Halloween season. It’s been a pleasure to hear what readers think of the story! From spookiness to being disappointed that the story wasn’t longer, I am proud that this story is reaching readers who enjoy it.
“The Lake House by Reina Cruz is a suspenseful, fast-paced short story perfect for the spooky season. What lurks in the waters of the lake house that’s claimed its share of Aleksa’s family? The question kept me turning pages right to the end. If you’re looking for a quick, thrilling read, I highly recommend The Lake House.” - E. Billups

In Other News
With the book launch complete, I have been refocusing my writing efforts on a new creative endeavor. I’ve shared a bit with my paid subscribers already. The work I’ve done with Marredbury’s ColbyStream and The Lake House narrative launch has really fostered fun around found fiction. There is a challenge in telling a story through found documents and artifacts. I feel like dialogue is one of my strengths with writing and writing in the found fiction format feels like writing majority dialogue. I already said it, but it has been a lot of FUN.
When I was younger, writing was playing. I remember sitting at my desktop computer, listening to my siblings play video games in the next room while I typed away on my Word document, an afternoon of whismy all the way around. Being in a season of life that is busy with work, family, and other daily obligations, it feels fantastic to bring play back into my writing.
And I think I’m creating something good! Here’s a draft of the blurb:
Maya Hahn is discovering her voice—and the power of activism—in the 1990s. What starts as a high school class project leads her to a college campus, where she throws herself into the movement. But when Maya vanishes, her mother, Audre, is left with nothing but unanswered questions—and a mailbox filling with letters that may hold the key to her daughter’s fate.
A gripping found-fiction experience delivered straight to your doorstep. Get ready to check your mail again.
The big experimental part is that I am thinking of delivering you this story through the mail. Shipping fiction in the mail is a newer trend. I am reading two right now, Scaremail and The Flower Letters, several letters behind, but enjoying the journey so far!

Paid subscribers will be getting the beta version of the letters, a year long experience delivered to your mailbox. I’ll be keeping them updated on the project with behind the scene insights while the draft if being completed. Upgrade to paid now at 15% to stay up to date on this project.
In the meantime I need to buy a printer to get the letters envelope ready. Anyone else living a printer-free adult life?
Happy reading!

Glad to hear the launch went well!
I'm hoping to get a chance to read The Lake House when work isn't... devouring me anymore, sorry! 😅
The new serial(?) sounds pretty intriguing so far!
Edit: Wait, sorry - these are physical letters??? 🤯
