A systemic autoimmune disease, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is characterized by extra-articular involvement and inflammatory arthritis. Typically, RA is symmetric, starting in small peripheral joints and progressing, if untreated, to involve proximal joints. Over time, joint inflammation leads to loss of cartilage and bone, and other comorbidities are also common and merit close attention from clinicians. Early diagnosis and treatment are critical to management of the disease, and new research in the area is constantly evolving.
Are you aware of the latest research on RA, including patient outcomes from physical fitness, which beverage is associated with the condition, and patients' risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD)? Test yourself with this brief quiz.
