Insomnia is a prevalent sleep disorder characterized by difficulty with sleep initiation, maintenance, consolidation, or quality despite adequate time and opportunity for sleep that usually results in some form of daytime impairment. Identifying and treating insomnia are important because it is predictive of a number of health issues, such as depression, anxiety, substance dependence, and suicide.
