Breast cancer has several different subtypes, and advances in detection and therapeutics over the past 20 years have enabled effective and precisely targeted treatment methods for the nuances of the disease. Although surgery is the mainstay of treatment for early breast cancers, patients who have advanced or metastatic disease might need prolonged irradiation or chemotherapy in order to shrink the tumor down to a resectable size.
