RedNotebook is a personal journal for day-to-day activities and various notes recording.
The interface is simple and intuitive. From its left side, the user selects a day, and then starts to type the daily notes into the middle tab.
The text is easy to edit, allowing various styles (bold, italics, underline), bullet lists, lines, or titles.
Pictures, tags, files, and web links can be added as well, using the insert option. However, because the program saves the data as text files and is not using a database, moving or deleting an inserted file from your computer, will also delete it from the journal. The best way to make sure that it will be saved in RedNotebook, is to save it in a separate folder.
Two text templates for meetings and journeys are available by default, and new ones can be added using a notepad editor. The Help file provides instructions about editing the templates, but this requires some basic scripting skills.
The notes can be exported to PDF, HTML, Latex, or plain text, and also backed up into a ZIP archive.
In order to prevent accidental deletion, the text is automatically saved.
There are two ways to search the journal. One of them is the classic keyword search, Google style. The other one displays a cloud of the most used words or tags, and selecting one of them, displays the related text.
Overall, Rednotebook is a well designed application, very useful to track each day personal "history".
