This PR performs some housekeeping on the library after a period of inactivity. Namely, the
macro-diagnosticsfeature has been deprecated and is now a no-op. It looks like we aren't getting the nice error messages out of the old approach using constants, and was always hamstrung by needing to be opted-in to anyways.I've also done a little dev dependency pruning.
