actually instead of reading i think i'll just type something in my livejournal for the first time in

well

literally months....

maybe i'll use this to gather my thoughts on my essay and ignore the fact that my first test in envi 101 is doomed because i cannot function properly in school thanks to my labyrinthitis throwing me off and a possible nighttime depression. it might be the winter blues come early thanks to shit binghamton weather. but anyways.

five pages for an essay

the topic is "literary expectations of romantic literature, and how stories like Queen of Spades twist them around to surprise the reader"

i think i created a shit topic for myself but ah well.

anyway first paragraph is the intro.
second paragraph, maybe talk about how stories like "Poor Liza" helped shape "Queen of Spades"? also talk in general about romantic cliches?
third paragraph: talk about the hero and the expectation for him to win his earnings and marry Lizaveta, which totally doesn't happen.
fourth paragraph: talk about Lizaveta and her Cinderella-esque characterization and her unexpected fate. maybe touch upon the expectation of the story to take off from her point of view after her introduction.
fifth paragraph: ugh i'll think of something
sixth paragraph: closing thoughts and bringing the thesis into full circle.

okay. time to sleep. i think i'll set my alarm for ten and wake up at that time. it'll give me a good hour and a half of extra studying time. and following that i can settle down and read for russian lit and work on the essay and answer questions because nine questions are due this semester and i have literally done none. i should also talk to the professor thursday about my close reading and when i will be able to do one.

but yes. maybe i should start using this journal more. if only to get my thoughts down in a nonlimiting space. there's only so much plurk can provide, but it's like twitter where it's quick and easy but with such little substance.
