So, I started a new job today. It's a bad sign when you're ready to lock yourself in the bathroom and cry before it's even lunch time, isn't it?

Now I've got a bit of a dilemma, in that I need a job, but I promised myself that I'd never again work at another job that makes me cry every day. Or even every week. But I don't even know where to start...I can't find a tech job that will actually just let me be a tech (I didn't go to school for all that time to play receptionist or kennel bitch, thank you very much). I'm a DAMNED good tech at that. And that about sums up my skill set. I mean, I'm good at pretty much everything I attempt (apart from customer service. I suck with people and I know that), but I don't have any experience at anything else.

So what the fuck do I do?

i got to work tonight, my first shift back after being off sick for 2 weeks...i'm by no means healthy, but i can't really afford much more sick time

i got to work to find out that reception had been swamped, so they'd 'borrowed' one of the other technicians to help them out...this left the other technician to fall well behind on the stuff that needed to be done...when i got there, she gave me a list of things that the doctors had been breathing down her neck about, and asked if i could start with those, and she'd go through cases with me once everything was under control...

so i went into the lab to get started on the lab work, and while i was doing that, the other technician came in to also give me a list of things she'd not finished yet, since it was the end of her shift...while she was explaining what she had and hadn't done, the first technician came into the lab to ask if she could tell me about the cases, because it was also the end of her shift...

i start work at 10pm, and there's normally one technician who finished at 10, and 2 who stay till midnight, but apparently this week (and it's not all that uncommon on sundays) everyone is finished at 10, leaving me on my own, with about 2 hours worth of catch-up to do, plus a hospital full of patients who need midnight medications and treatments, as well as THREE doctors still seeing and admitting new ones...

so, i walked out

i left my boss a note explaining that i can't be the only technician when there are three or more doctors, i can't be left with everything that the evening shift didn't get around to doing, i can't keep picking up after my coworkers, and that i don't know if i need a leave of absence, or a whole new line of work, but i left her a note, let one of the assistants know i wasn't sticking around to take that kind of abuse, and just walked out...

so now i really don't know what to do...i know that they WILL take me back, but i don't know that they'll fix the staffing issues, and i've never reallyl felt that i fit in there...i can't go back to the last clinic i worked at, because of the way that i left (similar situation, less accomodating management, more dramatics when i left)...

but it's the only job i've ever had, and now i don't know what to do...

i think i might be dying :(

i just booked myself a vacation, and completely forgot that pet care for the holidays pretty much needs to be booked in july...

we're going to be away from december 27th or so until january 5th or so, and i need to sort something out so that my cats and ferrets will be fed and watered while i'm gone...

anyone interested? they're pretty self sufficient, so they only really need to be checked on every 2-3 days, but i'd be good with someone moving in here for the whole time that i'm gone as well...
