Adding livejournal blogs to your DW reading page

Just in case you need it, there is a way to add any LJ blog to your DW reading page.

To do so go to your DW feeds page (Settings - Read - Feeds) and in "Feed URL" window enter http://lj_username.livejournal.com/data/rss (replace lj_username with the actual username of LJ blog you want to subscribe to).
After that DW will display another page prompting you to enter a name for the feed. Enter it, and then subscribe to it.
If someone had already subscribed to that LJ feed before, DW will display an existing link. Click on it and subscribe.

You can subscribe both to personal journals and communities. Naturally, you will see only public entries, but it's still better than noting.

If there are any graphic makers reading this, here is a reminder - Seasonal Spuffy banner contest could use more entries ;) The deadline is October 23.

Also, it's the last day to sign-up for Nekid Spike's Reverse Minibang, sign ups close at October 22nd. This is a challenge where artists create at least one piece of artwork featuring characters from BtVS/AtS. Then art is posted anonymously to be claimed by an author.

Seasons 2-4 are fully uploaded, season 5 is in progress.
Images are tagged per character, so you can use it as a reference guide, like, to find out where particular characters appeared in the same frame. You can also use search page to limit tags to specific season or episode.

Angel season 2 caps and random thoughts

I'm currently screencapping season 2 of Angel, so here are some pointless observations:

- Angel tends to endure entire conversations with the same face expression. Well, serious conversations. It changes drastically when he has a chance to be goofy. AtS would probably benefit a lot from being a comedy.

- Cordelia, on the other hand, can go through 10 expressions in one second. I am not even exaggerating. Much.

- Gunn gets so little screen time comparing to other core characters. Like, about twice less than Cordelia or Wesley.

- Gunn and Cordy have such a great chemistry, I almost forgot. (I ended up rewatching "First Impressions" instead of capping it.) It's a crime that they get so few scenes together later in the series. Gunn and Wesley are great, too. (And let's not think about what comes later.)

- Wesley and Angel often have so similar body language and face expressions. On smaller thumbnails it's even hard to tell them apart. I wonder, if it's natural thing or Alexis Denisof mimicked it on purpose.

- Angel and Lindsey look like twin brothers, too. Well, no surprise here, it's the whole point of Lindsey's character.

- Lilah's face is much more expressive than I recall. The nonchalant stiffness that I remeber actually appears only in life-threatening situations. She just visually freezes, often with a blank expression on her face. Made me wonder, what Lilah's backstory could be.

A bit of Buffy fandom history

There has been interesting discussion on Buffy fandom history at rahirah's tumblr. (Ok, probably not exactly a discussion, just rahirah answering questions on how the Seeing Red disaster originally went in 2002.) Among other things she mentioned Succubus Club radioshow, where buffyverse writers were invited for interviews.
Turns out, that some of those radioshows, mostly from 2002 and 2003, are stil available here, thanks to Wayback Machine. Including Steven DeKnight's interview, that he gave soon after the airing of "Seeing Red".
I've been listening to it, some things didn't change at all - basically, everything about Spike and Spuffy. Absolutely the same points still pop up in every other S6 discussion today. And DeKnight acknowledges that some things were handled poorly.
But when it comes to discussion of Tara... is it just me, or both DeKnight and hosts sound cringeworthy by the modern day's standarts? They dismiss Tara fans' outrage as overreaction ("we just treated Tara/Willow like every other couple in the show"), they joke about lesbians sabotaging studio equipment... That's so not how damage control over killing a gay character is done nowdays. It looks like the opposite of damage control, tbh, because "oh, you are just overreacting" is the thing that brings only more outrage.
Just compare it with Jason Rothenberg apologizing for what he did with a certain character in The 100.
I get where it's coming from - DeKnight is viewing it from writer's perspective. Tara's death leads to the good story, so there is nothing to apologize about, it's just a well-constructed plotline. But it looks so weird today, that neither him or the hosts acknowledge that there is need for empathy, for some kind of apology. It doesn't matter how good the story is, when some fans are seriously hurt by it. Just tell them you are sorry, tell them that you were a bad person to hurt them, why is it so difficult?

Looking for "Spike in a horror movie" recs

The fic is part of the "Answering Prayers" 'verse, but could be read on it's own as well.

Poster art for one of my favorite stories, Venus and Mars by Glassdarkly (aka shapinglight).
I had a lot of fun while making it. First of all, because it's incredibly rich story (yes, it's a rec!) with so many possibilities for interpretation. Plus, it gives a perfect excuse to go through Victorian dress collections, imagining Darla and Dru in fancy historical gowns. (Poor Dru, she didn't get her dress from me after all. I should rectify it someday.)

My Secret Valentine exchange entry for blondebitz who wanted Spike/Dean Winchester/Damon artwork, not sad and not angsty (romantic would be nice).
Well, I pretty much failed the romantic part... **sad guilty puppy eyes**
But at least it's not sad and angsty for sure.
