Slumdog Millionaire

For your consideration:

<lj-embed id="9" />

I just saw this today. It is completely deserving of the Golden Globe Best Picture. I hope it continues to be recognized. 11 BAFTA nominations as well.

It follows the story of Jamal, born to the slums of Mumbai who goes on the game show "Who Wants to Be a Millionarie" at the age of 18, all in the pursuit of his childhood love Latika. As he is asked the questions, we are given a look into events of his life that teach him the answers. Of course growing up in the slums, he did not have a pleasant childhood. He and his brother are orphaned, meet Latika, are taken to an orphanage, escape, and take up numerous less-than-legal jobs to survive, including a stint at the Taj Mahal giving tours to gullible foreigners and stealing/re-selling shoes. His brother eventually gets involved with some gangsters and he and Jamal part ways, reunited only shortly before Jamal's appearance on the show.

The film is exciting, humorous, and uplifting. Go see it and be sure to stay for the credits. You'll love it.

Oh alright, I'm going to follow the pack. First saw this on mrstilney's journal weeks ago, actually. She has it as a future-dated entry. But I've enjoyed reading everyone else's, so thought I might as well go ahead and do mine.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Underline those you intend to read.
3) Italicise the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list so we can try and track down these people who’ve read 6 and force books upon them.

I've also put them in orange if I haven't read them but I've seen a movie version and green if I've read parts but not the entirety.

1. A friend of mine will be The Fourth Doctor, aka Tom Baker. His grandmother crocheted him a 15ft. scarf! Another friend was supposed to be #5, but she couldn't get the costume together.

Missing...

I miss Lord of the Rings!!! Christmas is coming up and there isn't another LOTR coming out! It's very sad...Christmas just won't be the same. They really should do a post-LOTR movie...showing what happens to the characters in more detail. It wouldn't have to be 4 hours long, just like a regular movie. Even if they make The Hobbit, it won't have the same people except for maybe Andy Sirkas, Ian McKellen, and Ian Holm, but Ian Holm may be too old.
I just finished watching the second part of the Two Towers last night...I had started it during the Rock-A-Thon and didn't have time to finish it. I don't know how many times I've seen Fellowship and Two Towers, but I've spent quite a bit of time doing so since they're about 4 hours each. Now I have to buy the Return of the King extended version...hopefully that will come out soon. I do wish they had more merchandise than they do. I would love a t-shirt or something, especially with the different kingdoms' symbols, like the tree of Gondor, horse of Rohan, etc.
So yeah...I went to the doctor on Friday and do have a sinus infection, so am now on antibiotics. Hopefully I'll start getting better.
Movies to see in theaters:
Save the Last Dance
The Incredibles
Polar Express
Finding Neverland (opens everywhere Wed.)
Ocean's Twelve (12.10)
Series of Unfortunate Events (12.17)
Phantom of the Opera (12.22)
Bride and Prejudice (12.26)
