share.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Home to many a rich banker, Hong Kong is not a cheap city by any standard. A while back I saw <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thomascrampton.com\/hong-kong\/cheap-hong-kong-hotels-semi-affordable\/\">a list<\/a> of supposedly affordable HK hotels but at $1400 HKD per night, I&#8217;m not sure whose idea of &#8220;cheap&#8221; these were. For me, budget options would be more in the $200-300 range (without it being a\u00a0<a title=\"Chungking Mansions\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chungking_Mansions\">Chunking Mansions<\/a> dive) of which there are plenty to be found if you don&#8217;t mind sleeping in somewhat basic accommodation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/randomwire\/3480511704\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1440\" class=\"wp-image-65321\" src=\"https:\/\/randomwire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/P1020428-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Lost in Hong Kong\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on the recommendation from a friend I recently stayed in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.852198.com\/english\/\">Hong Kong Holiday Guesthouse<\/a>\u00a0(<a title=\"Argyle Street\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Argyle_Street\">Argyle Street<\/a>)\u00a0in <a title=\"Mong Kok\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mong_Kok\">Mongkok<\/a>, <a title=\"Kowloon\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kowloon\">Kowloon<\/a> for two nights. At only 2 minutes walking distance from the <a href=\"\/i-heart-mtr\/\">MTR<\/a> in a vibrant part of the city it&#8217;s pretty convenient and for only $200 HKD per night cheap by any standard. It was a little hard to spot as there were no obvious signs outside but once you&#8217;ve navigated your way to the 6th floor of the building you should be OK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/randomwire\/3500818484\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1440\" class=\"wp-image-66688\" src=\"https:\/\/randomwire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/P1020377-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Tiny HK Hotel\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There are some caveats I have to point out;<\/strong> what you basically get is a windowless box to sleep in for the night with a tiny bathroom and little else. The room was clean with air conditioning and internet access but the building it&#8217;s located in is pretty old and dingy (not the sort of place you&#8217;d want to be if it ever caught fire). This is not for the claustrophobic or those looking for panoramic views but for the intrepid traveller on a budget it&#8217;s ideal. It may not be the Marriott but I guarantee it has more local character &#8211; once you turn out the lights you won&#8217;t notice the difference anyway!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/randomwire\/3499996969\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1440\" class=\"wp-image-67095\" src=\"https:\/\/randomwire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/P1020376-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Tiny HK Bathroom\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Another similar option nearby is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Ka-Wut-Villa\/Hong-Kong\/18942\">Ka Wut Villa<\/a> (Sai Yee Street) but it&#8217;s on a busy road so if you&#8217;re a light sleeper you may want to avoid it.
