ABSTRACT

I started this painting in 1973 to satisfy a college art course requirement but I wasn't satisfied with the outcome of this "complimentary colors" project painting. This painting started out with a dump of gesso and a pour of thalo green paint with orange surround and a bit of dry tempera paint sprinkled in the background. Very boring.

Just for the fun of it, last year I attended a "textured painting" workshop and dug this old painting out of our dormer to rework it, rather than starting from a blank canvas like everyone else in the group. I added much more texture, added the purples, reds, etc., also added "shine" to portions of the original thalo green.

If I remember correctly, this is the only completely abstract style painting I've ever done.

On Nov. 22,1963 THREE CRIMES WERE COMMITTED:

1.) The President was violently assassinated.
2.) A Police Officer was murdered in the street.
3.) A man entered a movie theater without buying a ticket.

DALLAS POLICE (+FBI or other?) SENT APPROX. 30 POLICE OFFICERS TO
THE THEATER TO CATCH THE MAN WHO'D FAILED TO PURCHASE HIS TICKET.

Does this sound like the crime that these officers should have pursued on that day?

elemore morgan jr.~

A plein-air painter, Mr. Elemore Morgan Jr. worked on large, shaped masonite canvases.
Note his use of two easels above.

I was fortunate enough to have enrolled in Mr. Morgan's drawing classes (which is what he taught) at USL.
He could draw incredibly realistically and shared his techniques for all types of drawing.
He was my greatest art teacher and mentor.

He was the epitome of the consummate master artist.

Mr. Morgan took me "under his wing" in school, as he did with many of his special students through the years. He refused to let me "thank him for teaching me how to draw" --but instead pointed out that I'd had it in me all the while, he'd only tried to bring out my ability to see. He was the most talented, hardworking and kindest of all teachers I ever had the honor to study with.
