A birth story

I was in labor for days, through long nights and the early morning hours dotted with the first calls of the songbirds- candles adorned the beautiful hours of dusk when the air got cooler and the light was fading into a blue, followed by the black, of night. My contractions came and went and were painful, but still I could sleep through them; so I prayed, and I slept.

This labor was baffling me. I wondered why this was such a long process and why, after so many home births and this being baby number seven, had active labor not kicked in yet… I thought that after 24 hours of steady contractions that I would be progressing more. I fought with the fear that it would be similar to my fifth birth, which had been harrowing. I know now that that was a major mental /emotional roadblock for me.
