This is Rainbow Cult.

Rainbow Cult is what happens when watching movies stops being passive and starts being communal. It’s a space for people who love film, pop culture, and queer weirdness—not just as entertainment, but as something that shaped them, kept them company, and occasionally saved their lives.

This Substack is where cult movies, TV, music, and fandom get taken seriously without losing their sense of fun. Midnight screenings, divas, genre trash, prestige TV, VHS ghosts, queer canon and anti-canon—all explored with humor, affection, and a deep belief that pleasure is not shallow.

You don’t need a film degree to be here. Theory shows up quietly, as a way of making sense of why something hits so hard, why a scene won’t let go, why a crowd watching together feels different than watching alone. It’s smart, but never smug. Emotional, but never precious.

Rainbow Cult also pulls back the curtain on how these moments happen: how screenings are programmed, how audiences form, how taste becomes community. It’s about media as a shared experience—laughing, gasping, shouting back at the screen, glowing a little in the dark together.

At heart, Rainbow Cult is about this: joy as a practice, camp as a way of thinking, and pop culture as something we inherit, argue with, and pass on—still strange, still alive, still ours.
