Return
Part VIII in the micro-series Eclipse
In between rays of light she veiled herself in the rising sun.
His heart touched hers. Even inside the nothingness; he had found her.
Staring out from inside the layers of invisibility she saw the stag and asked,
“Where is he?”
“He holds what is left of us. Come through and return to time,” he implored her.
She lifted herself from the edge of the sky and reappeared beside the stag.
“What has become of the warriors,” she asked.
“Most are lost,” he replied.
“And those that remain?”
Her eyes gleamed in the morning mist.
The stag’s nostrils flared, he huffed and started moving through the forest.
“Hidden,” he answered.
Twigs snapped as his antlers grazed the branches of the trees.
“He knows you are here,” he said.
“I know,” she breathed, her eyes filling with tears.
“Will you stay,” he asked.
“You know I cannot.”
The stag stopped and looked at her. His dark eyes held the knowledge of ages.
“The planet’s precession will continue. The stars will realign, the time will come and I shall return,” she whispered.
They walked in silence to the boundary. Where the forest released the land and the icy meadow sprawled past the henge to the fringes of the shore.
She called the wind. It lifted the fog from the land. Filling the air with thick cold white.
Withdrawing into invisibility her voice echoed as she faded into the light,
“He is my heart.”

🙌 wonderful as always!
