  • New York is getting a new executive director of the City of Nightlife. Earlier this month, Mayor Eric Adams confirmed Bronx restaurateur and ex-NYPD detective Jeffrey Garcia for the position. He'll replace Ariel Palitz, who held the role for five years before stepping down in February. "One of my main priorities coming in here is, how do we get folks to visit these wonderful businesses now in the South Bronx, in the North Bronx?" Garcia told Time Out. "How do we get them to go to Staten Island, to Brooklyn, to Queens? I think that is all about information, and putting these businesses out there, putting these neighbourhoods out there, so that people can see there are wonderful places to visit all across the city. Not everything is, you know, in midtown Manhattan." The news comes after Adams announced a hiring freeze in September in efforts to cut budgets. This month, all city agencies are expected to slash their spending by five percent, followed by another five percent in January and April. It's unclear how much Garcia will be paid in his new role. Palitz, the first nightlife mayor, was appointed in 2018. Read our feature on her from earlier this year.
