Slow stitching and applique'

I am slowly working on my applique' blocks for the Henrietta Whiskers quilt. It has a total of 9 blocks and I am almost done with #3

This is my take along project that I can work on where ever we might find ourselves.
Hand applique' seems to quiet my mind!!!

Teaching our youth to quilt!!!

Yesterday I had Mychelle over to make a small quilt block for her FFA convention that is coming up very soon. She had many ideas, so I helped her formulate them and then put those ideas down on paper.
I taught her how to do fusible applique', how to do simple machine quilting with the free motion foot and walking foot on my Juki.
Then how to make a binding and sew it on by machine.
After about 6 hours, she took her almost finished work of art home to finish the eyes and hand sew the binding to the back.
It was a very fun day to be sure.
She sent me this photo last night!!!

I am so very proud of her and how hard she worked on this piece๐Ÿ’›
If you zoom in you can see her finished baby chick, so cute!!!!

It was a very good day indeed.

Notepad covers

I've been working on notepad covers. So far I've done about 12 but have several more in my to-do pile. A friend had a very old one and needed an updated new cover and asked if I could possibly make one for her. So I turned it inside out so I could figure out how is was made and went to work.
The first one worked, but didn't fit the notepads from Walmart, so I redesigned it a little larger and these are working perfectly.
I plan on doing a video tutorial to share the pattern and will post it here also when I am done.

ENJOY AND HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!! Martha

Old denim from jeans-Coin purse with wristlet

I decided to make a little coin purse out of an old pair of jeans and add a wristlet that can be removed easily. It was fun but sewing through the multiple layers of denim was a challenge.
I would like to make a few more out of quilt fabric, there are so many sweet fabric designs that would make some fabulous bags!!!

Spring inspired table runner

I decided to do a very easy and quick table runner for our coffee table

I had a lot of 5" squares already cut for coasters. The pattern for the coasters is so easy and they work great to protect the furniture. I wanted bright happy ones so had cut all this fabric.

Then I thought it would be a great idea to have a matching table runner, so I got to work.

I did a very simple straight stitch about 1/4" from all the seams and used a wool batting.

Putting the binding on was tricky with those corners but I got them to work.

I am very pleased with this, now back to quilting my little trailer quilt below, almost done with it.

HAPPY QUILTING!!!

Kylo Ren costume construction and a little bit of quilting!!!

Meet Kylo Ren from Star Wars
aka
my grandson Cooper

He asked me to make him a Kylo Ren costume so I began the construction this past Saturday. It was a challenge, especially the sleeves made from faux leather and pleated.

I started with a store bought quilted vest

then added a lot more quilting

I also added like a cap over the shoulder and a belt.
After that I made the cape and constructed a faux belt buckle from foam board, twine and paint.

He is super excited with how it turned out!! I am too :^)

Happy New Year's and May the Force be With You!!!
