Weare going to see how to add a menu<\/strong> to a window<\/strong> with tkinter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The window<\/h2>\n

A window will be like this:<\/p>\n

A text widget<\/h2>\n
Let’s add a text widget<\/strong> to the window (it is not necessary to make a menu, but we just want to populate the window with just one widget.<\/p>\n
import tkinter as tk\r\n\r\n\r\nroot = tk.Tk()\r\n\r\ntext = tk.Text(root)\r\ntext.pack()\r\n\r\nroot.mainloop()<\/pre>\n
The menu bar<\/h2>\n
menu = tk.Menu(root)\r\n<\/pre>\n
We create a single voice<\/strong> of the menu<\/p>\n
menu = tk.Menu(root)\r\n\r\n#Add just a voice, with no sub voices\r\nmenu.add_command(label=\"Open\")<\/pre>\n
To add a ‘cascade voice’ to the menu we do this: we create another menu, with another name, we use add_command<\/strong> to create a voice for this menu:<\/p>\n
# add a cascade menu\r\nsubmenu = tk.Menu(root)\r\nsubmenu.add_command(label=\"Save file\")\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n
And then we use add_cascade<\/strong> to make this menu a menu ‘cascade’ in which a new submenu is shown when you press the label that you will see in the next line:<\/p>\n

You still can’t see the menu<\/strong>. To see it, you got to do this:<\/p>\n
