Mask Brushes (like polaroid-type brushes)

I've had photoshop elements 4.0 for a while, but i have just started trying to figure it out.  I am trying to use the brushes that look like polaroid pictures, but i can't figure out how to get them to turn out right. I'd appreciate any help or links to tutorials. Thanks!
