Climate Policy Quest
2021 Showcase Submission
The second year hosting the Climate Policy Quest Challenge saw similar challenges as the protocols and barriers posed by the COVID-19 Pandemic continued. Despite these challenges, classes from across Canada participated in the program and some were able to successfully complete and submit for the challenge, proving again the innovation and resilience of students during difficult times.
2020 Showcase Submission
We launched our new climate policy program - Decoding Carbon: A Climate Policy Quest in the spring of 2020. As the program was developed and launched in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, frankly we were not confident that the program would receive enough interest from teachers considering the challenges faced by them across the country in these unprecedented times. Despite the uncertainty, we had a few teachers register for the program who we invited to register for the Climate Policy Quest Challenge for the 2020 school year. The Climate Policy Quest Challenge asks students to develop a climate policy proposal for Canada that can potentially limit temperature increase below 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2050 for Canada.

2022 Showcase Submission
2021 Showcase Submission
Launched just over a month before the challenge deadline and at the height of the third COVID-19 wave in Canada, we did not anticipate any educators having the time to implement the program, let alone submit for the challenge. Pleasantly surprised by the initiative and environmental priorities of Queen Elizabeth School, we received a strong submission proposing a feasible innovation plan that will remove plastic waste from our environment.

2021 Showcase Submission - School Earth Hour
Despite the challenges of many school closures and the transition to both virtual learning and adapting to COVID-19 protocols, some schools across Canada showed their commitment to the Earth by hosting an Earth Hour. Though their Earth Hours were often stunted compared to their traditional celebrations and their hopes, the determination and resolve to keep environmentalism a priority is evident throughout the submissions.
2021 Showcase Submission - Home Energy Audit
Adapting to transition to virtual learning following the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we launched the Home Energy Audit Challenge. The home-based sibling challenge to the School Earth Hour Challenge. This Challenge tasks learners with investigating the energy efficiency of their home and making an action plan to reduce their personal energy use.
Flood:ED
2022 Showcase Submission
2021 Showcase Submission
As the most common natural disaster in Canada, the Flood:Ed Challenge tasks students with developing a flood resilience plan and taking action to reduce flood risk. Despite the challenges of remote and blended learning a couple of teachers were able to complete their challenges in time for the submission deadline, highlighting the fantastic place-based and authentic learning happening around extreme weather.
