"Lost" widget

Hi Ben, hope you are doing just great in this crazy world we live!

Here I am coming back to you after a while a possible quick, but driving-me-crazy support. If you scroll down to the end my homepage (www.minutohm.com), you’ll see currently a (widget? code?) with this:

Poll # 106 – Podcast # 44 – Throwdown Grunge – Alice in Chains x Pearl Jam x Temple of the Dog: escolha o melhor álbum (Poll Closed)

This was of course a text widget I generally use for polls, but I generally have it replaced when I have a new pool. Currently I’m using one for a new poll (you’ll find it at the right side) between RSS and Comments ones, but I terribly embarrassed I am not finding where this left over widget on the bottom is!

Can you please give a hand in here? Really appreciated, as usual.

    Tks,

    Eduardo.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Eduardo – good to hear from you. We’re doing well here thanks! Hope you’re ok as well!

That issue with the poll is very strange. I can see the poll javascript being included in the footer of the site but I don’t know how it gets there.

Could you post the text content from your text widget so I can have a look and see hows it’s implemented? I can then test the widget for myself and see if I can reproduce the problem.

    Thanks – Ben

    Very strange indeed.

Here’s what what I have on the text widget I use for polls and that I updated. What you see in the footer WAS what I have before updating to this:

    [crowdsignal poll=10765144]
    <br>
    Pesquisa aberta até o Podcast # 45 (maio/2021).

    Thanks!

I tried to use the code as comments here, but was not able to. Anyway, no reference to what I see in the footer…

I wonder if it’s something to do with the crowdsignal shortcode.

Alternatively it could be something to do with inactive widgets but there doesn’t appear to be a way to edit those on WordPress.com

I’ve just read the poll JavaScript and the way the code works it looks at the page to see if there’s an embed element, and if it’s missing it inserts the poll after script. But the script is in the footer of the page so that’s where the poll is being inserted.

So, Is the poll in a blog post as well? Could you check in there to see how it’s been added. If it’s a block is it the shortcode block or a poll block? Maybe there’s a problem with one of those?

If none of this works then maybe we can hide it with some custom css but that’s not ideal either. It’s hiding the problem rather than fixing it :)

Hi Ben… I have been posting new content to the blog, changed a menu, changed how many posts to be shown at the home page, created a post, created a new page, posted one or two comments… and before all of those, the “mysterious widget” was there.

I refreshed the home page from different browsers and… it just vanished. It’s no longer there. Tell me it’s not the wine, please, and that you did something… because I didn’t do anything that would be possibly related… hahahaha

    [ ] ‘ s,

    Eduardo.

    I haven’t changed anything I’m afraid :)

If it was a bug with the polls shortcode/ widget then maybe the polls code was updated to fix the issue.

Glad it’s gone though. Those types of bugs that you can’t track down are frustrating.

    Enjoy your wine :)

    Ben

Wow… was really the wine that good? I should seel this idea to developers!

Let’s get real: I didn’t do anything that could be (logically) related to that. Anyway… it’s gone, not hidden, hopefully…

Thanks, as usual, Ben. Stay safe.

    Eduardo.
