What’s in a name? (Musing about Windows RT)

23 10 2012

So, I was thinking about Windows 8 in the shower this morning. What? No, that’s not weird. I’m sure a lot of people do it. Anyway here’s what I can up with:

Windows 4 NT (New Technology?)

Windows 5 OT

Windows 6 PT

Windows 7 QT

Windows 8 RT (Re-imagined Technology?)

That’s my crazy theory, what’s yours? Why not track me down at PowerShell Saturday this Saturday and tell me? What? You’re not going to be there? Bummer…well, I guess you could leave a comment.

Jeff_Hicks: #when will online docs stop being pre-release? Will there be anything different when it is RTM?

Jeff_Hicks: #is there anyone else writing core cmdlet help with you?

PowerSchill: ## Is the Cmdlet Help Editor on CodePlex?

Jeff_Hicks: ##Is there a help style guide for other teams writing help? Or perhaps for the community?

alexandair: ## right now updatable help files and help topics on TechNet are not in sync. will that change by GA?

Jeff_Hicks: ##is there a way to download help for a module I don’t have, but a server might so that I can update help locally?

Jeff_Hicks: ##for example I have a scheduled job from Win8 to download help. But I want to update help for modules on a Windows 2012 box as well so it can update help locally.

Mission to Mars: the LUA scripting language

Chatroom Banter

JHofferle: ## How difficult was it writing a book that was released around the same time as PS v3?

brwilkinson: # Why would/should a SysAdmin buy your book? : )

JHofferle: ## Is the target audience for your book Developers, or admins with a developer background?

FishTender27: ## I may have missed it as I was AWK.  Is the book meant to be used and compliment specific development language or is it geared toward writing tools directly in Powershell?

Graythang: ##how much coverage does the book provide for excel use (i have to kick out metrics every month, I’d LOVE to automate it)

Graythang: ## does it cover creating pivot tables with graphs?

JHofferle: ## Have you considered writing about laying a GUI over PowerShell a la Server Manager 2012? This is something the PowerShell team has said they haven’t dived into.

AaronHoover: ## for sysadmins – +/- for JSON and XML?

JHofferle: ## What best practices do you see changing for v3?

Vern_Anderson: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munge

JHofferle: XML has it’s place, but JSON strikes me as the web’s version of a PowerShell custom object.
