PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Øer is an installation, where visitors are invited into an audiovisual experience focused on biological and cultural diversity.
Øer unfolds through sound, image, and movement. Microscopic organisms drift across surfaces, gather in clusters, divide, disappear. Scales shift continuously. What first appears abstract gradually reveals itself as living matter. Microscopic footage of marine organisms forms the visual foundation of the work. Magnified beyond recognition, these forms become landscapes, constellations, fleeting architectures. Their movements are slow and persistent, unfolding according to rhythms that remain largely unnoticed.
The space is carried by sound. Sea and song drift through it in fragments, surfacing and receding like currents. Ancestral voices return altered, folded into a man’s song of exile and a woman’s account of a journey between islands.
The title “Øer”, suggests places separated by water. Yet islands are shaped by currents, migrations, and exchanges that exceed their borders. What appears isolated is sustained by connections that remain largely invisible.
Presented within Viborg Musiksal, the installation creates a temporary environment for attention. Visitors enter a shared situation where familiar scales lose their certainty. Hidden worlds come briefly into view. What seemed distant appears closer.
